Went there for my birthday dinner. Great food and service. Will come back again once the virus goon lol
Service was good at the start, but when we needed the bill, server was hard to find. Food was good, steak was a little dry, but overall good. Decor and ambiance was excellent!
Food was amazing and perfectly cook. Very accommodating to get food just right for you. Staffs very friend and attentive. My first experience was Amazing and will not be my last . Great Job.
We went for my husband’s bday with the family, we loved it and we really enjoyed!
Always enjoy dinning at David Duncan House for any occasion. Excellent food and service.
It is definitely a pricier meal, but well worth it. My husband and I shared the Chateaubriand, which was prepared tableside. The steak was incredibly tender and the veggies were to die for. A must-try if this is your first time visiting The David Duncan House. The waitstaff was incredibly friendly and exceedingly accommodating as well. Plus, the restaurant is set in a piece of Toronto history, in a house built in 1865!
Thank you for your kind words! We are happy to hear that you had a wonderful experience with us and we look forward to seeing you again very soon!
Service is impeccable, a little pricier but the quality is there. Steaks are like butter. Wine list has something for everyone. Always a great spot to entertain for business or a special occasion.
Thank you for your 5-star review and rating!
DDH is the classic steakhouse we've come to know and enjoy on a regular basis. The table-side ceasar and all their steaks are of superior quality/taste. Their servers are great and their manager, Nick, in particular, make you feel right at home. Exceptional!
We're glad to hear that you always have a wonderful experience with us. We cannot wait to serve you again soon!
Great as always. Great service and rib eye was exceptional for the price
The location is convenient with plenty of parking spots, the building is stunning.
The ambience inside is sophisticated, visible areas are well maintained and clean.
The front and wait staff are friendly and very attentive. The only thing is the food was very average, even the cocktail. However, overall it was still a pleasant experience.
Looks like Both of the two receptionists Had a bad day that day, long face With no smile at all, don’t feel we are welcomed, I hope it was not simply because we have Asian faces, not a happy experience at the reception at all.
All the waiters did great jobs and we appreciate it very much.
Great service, decent food, different environment compared to typical restaurants.
Nice place! A bit noisy on a Thursday night as there was a party going on within the upper floor. The service is second to none! The steak a bit fatty, but the taste was great along with all of the accompaniments. Wonderful selection of wine. I would recommend the David Duncan House for its food and service, maybe not for the ambience and noise level on this particular night.
This place is so elegant and so different than any other restaurant, when you go there you don't want to leave, been there many times the last 20 years Peter and Paul's continues the David Duncan House legacy from the previous owners Bill and the brother's so good and well done jod!!
Is actually between a YES or NO.
We went as a group of 9 for a birthday as a friend's recommendation, however we don't think the dining experience match our expectations.
Busy sunday night, it toke forever for them to notice we are out of sparkling water.
Most main courses came at the same time which was good for timing, but the dishes were just ok.
Lamb chops are over-cooked for medium, market fish was so plain not even drizzle of salt or sauce on the side.
We love the environment and the history of the place, hopefully next time we go in a small group may justify the love people have for this spot.
Potatoes were cold.
Service was incredibly slow to almost non existent
Waiter never came to check how the food was
Escargot- waited forever for waiter for pincers.
Dessert and soup of choice - ran out!
Coffee / ice cold and no refills.
Shame on a high class restaurant- poor poor choice for a birthday
I would not recommend not come back!
Can’t say we got value for our money
Was amazing service and not so far location , have a parking, so goood amazing 10 stars
We have been coming to the DDH for about twenty years. Haven't been since last Spring. Thought we would come for a nice romantic dinner. Unfortunately where we were put by the staff (upper level) were in front of a very noisy table of six who loudly regaled the restaurant on their opinions of numerous topics (like we really care). DDH staff seemed not to care about the noise. The menu had changed. All were al la carte instead of included. My wife missed the spare ribs. At least the Caesar salad for two hadn't changed and the gentleman who made it at our table was familiar to us for at least ten years at the restaurant.
The service was very good. Our drinks came followed by the made salad at our table followed by the main course. The food itself was quite good ( steak, prime rib).
Overall a not a bad time but could have been better. As we travelled 45 minutes to get there, coming back for another occasion I might think twice and look for another option.
- Changing waiter mid dinner
- threw away food that were supposed to be packed up
- waiter’s final comments in regards to the food that were threw away made us feel uncomfortable
Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone.
Sadly disappointed. I drive by this restaurant 5 days a week and have done so for many years and have always wanted to try it. I have never heard anything bad about it. So I decided to go for dinner and treat my mom for Valentine’s Day. I looked at the menu online ahead of time to be prepared as I normally do. When I got there and sat down there was a V-day menu and when I asked for the regular menu they said they didn’t have it that evening. I wish I knew from before! They never said anything online, when we arrived or when I booked. This meant that the menu was small. The wait staff were friendly and they were able to give me veggies as a side dish rather than the only option of mashed potatoes. My moms steak was super salty that she barely ate it. I was expecting so much more from this place especially for the amount I ended up spending. At least now I know and my curiosity is over. I will not be returning.
My wife had a great Valentine's Celebration. Awesome food and very pleasant service.
I order the Zappa di.pesce and 10.mins later I was told it was not.available. the muscles tasted funny. My husbands steak was bland. But the worst part was that management never came over to try and rectify the situation.
Prime rib was disappointing. But the ambiance was spectacular. Loved the look of the place. Very cosy and service was outstanding.
Amazing experience. Disappointed you don't allow gift cards for Winterlicious and Summerlicious. You really need to change that. It will encourage more people to come to your restaurant.
Food was excellent, the lady who gave us drinks and apps was great but the male server was arrogant and impolite.
Fantastic atmosphere and very cozy place. It’s good for dating or special occasions. The food was ok and just the sauce on the prime rib made me hesitate to give it a 5 star rating.
The venue has been through a lot of ups and downs - but this is definitely a great improvement in every way.
Decided to try this restaurant during Winterlicious (having heard amazing things about it). Was less than impressed and am quite puzzled by our treatment based on the rave reviews this place is getting. We were seated around the corner and down the stairs away from the door but kept feeling a cool draft under the table. We made a comment to the waitress who said it was because the door kept opening - I’m not sure how the cold air managed to come around a corner (like 180 degrees) and down a flight of stairs. The draft was bad enough that it wound up cooling off our food very quickly which was a shame as it was tasty in flavour. I also felt that our server had a bit of a chip on her shoulder - I don’t think I’ve ever gone to a restaurant and NOT been offered coffee/tea. We felt bad enough about the experience to speak to the manager on our way out (after we had paid, so clearly not looking for any type of compensation). Manager had an attitude (told us we were the only ones complaining about the chill). When I asked him to explain how it could be possible that the cold air was coming from the front door, he responded with ‘I don’t know, I’m not an engineer!’... Seriously?? I also mentioned that I felt the service was lacking and he again had excuses. I started to feel uncomfortable with the way he was speaking so was trying to tie up the conversation and leave (so was turning towards the door) and he had the nerve to say ‘you could at least acknowledge me and look at me while I’m talking to you’... I guess I was told!! In any case, maybe it was an off night but it was a bad enough experience capped off by being spoken in a very discourteous manner to cause me to say that I will never go to this restaurant again and I would/will/have tell everyone what a negative experience this was. I am happy to give my business to other fine dining establishments (such as The Octagon) who understand the value of a customer and know how to treat people properly.
We had an amazing time! Everything was fantastic!
We went for Winterlicous. Had a beautiful table in front of a roaring fireplace....
Very romantic....my wife seemed to love it a lot....
We had a good time, dinner and ambiance were very good indeed....
We will head back and try the regular menu next time.
Food was all cold. Server was totally detached. Winterlicious menu was not as described on the Toronto website. We had to track someone down to order coffee. Server never offered it. We were rushed the entire time. And the restaurant was emptying out quickly. This is not a fast food place. We came to dine. It had been a long time since we had been here. Winterlicious is meant to entice you to come back. I don’t think so!
Would definitely not recommend. We used to go here quite regularly but hadn’t been in a number of years and were very disappointed. We were seated right under a speaker so couldn’t hear each other talk, the bread at the table was awful and the choice of sides was terrible, due to the lack of options we order fries and mashed potatoes, fries were disgusting and soggy steaks were average but fatty, had French onion soup and it just tasted like hot water our bill for 4 people with no alcohol, was over $500 and the server pretty much ignored us...we are regulars at Morton’s, Ruth Chris and Hys and they are all far superior...to be honest even a meal at the Keg would have been a better choice...
Delicious winterlicious menu and awesome service!!
We went there during Winterlicious and we thought the menu choices was of the highest value, portion sizes, presentation and service were all great.Everything was excellent! Will definitely come back again -food festival or not.
The Cornish hen was bland. Not enough vegetables. Overall disappointing with the dinner.
