As usual the food was excellent and the service fantastic
A very pleasant setting in a tasteful environment.
The service was excellent. It is rare these days to receive top quality service where the staff are attentive without hovering over you.
The delicious food was presented perfectly and in a timely fashion, with rushing you but allowing a comfortable time between each course.
Would I return, absolutely, was it good value, absolutely, was it a great dining experience, absolutely!
Went for our anniversary, best value in the bay in my opinion, cooking is very precise, flavours and ingredients excellent some locally sourced. Service is attentive but not overbearing,be lovely lunch experience.
We were child free for the first evening in nearly 2 years. And what a great way to enjoy it. The food was stunning. I don’t eat fish at all. But decided on the scallop starter. It was amazing and tasted great. I would recommend the elephant to anybody visiting Torquay.
First visit, nice warm welcome , friendly staff, always a good start. Really enjoyed our starters of particular mention was the Brixham crab really delicious and mains superb also, desserts didn’t come up to expectation but nonetheless they were nice. Limited wine list and it is a very informal restaurant . Very reasonable prices for a Michelin starred restaurant. About £135 for two with 2 G & T’s and bottle of wine.
Not good I'm afraid. Far too pricy just for 2 cod fillets and a few potatoes £62 inc 2 lagers Potatoes we had to pay extra unbelievable Avoid unless you want to be ripped off.food we had was good and the service is good but will not be returning
Lovely decor, light and airy interior.very nice staff . The menu choices were fantastic we enjoyed duck parfait and a vegetarian hummus and couscous dish followed by Hake and a duck Brest, all cooked outstandingly . Great wine list .lovely touch a birthday card on the table .
We will definitely go back maybe for dinner next time
Fantastic evening at The Elephant! Food was amazing with great flavours & service was exceptional! Highly recommend.
Enjoyed a beautiful lunch everything was lovely restaurant was quite quiet which was nice booked to go back for husbands birthday
Lovely evening, food fantastic, and very good value.
We had a fantastic anniversary meal shared with friends. It was lovely to be able to share the wine taster between two so we could enjoy the whole experience. Thank for making our anniversary so special.
Another fabulous dining experience at Elephant. Beautifully presented lunch - all courses were delicious - highly recommend to try this restaurant to anyone who hasn't yet been. Already booked again - this time for an evening meal with family.
Always wonderful. Delicious. Excellent value Michelin started food.
This was our first visit but definitely not the last. We celebrated our daughters birthday with the taster menu. It will be remembered as possibly the best meal we’ve ever had, outstanding. I cannot rate this wonderful restaurant higher. We can’t wait to return, thank you for a perfect evening.
great food, attentive staff and a wonderful way to celebrate a special occasion
Had a fabulous 3 course dinner from the a la carte menu. Beautifully presented food and absolutely delicious. I couldn’t fault it. Great service too. Next time we return to Torquay we will definitely return. Thank you to the chefs and waiting staff. An evening to remember.
We went here for a birthday ,the food was fantastic the staff attentive and polite the ambience perfect all in all a fabulous experience wouldn't hesitate to go back .
Exceptional in every way. Incredible food, beautiful location and first class service. Look forward to going back.
Our second visit and dissapointed to see croquet in some form on the lunch menu again.
Apart from that enjoyable lunch.
Fantastic tasting menus (changes regularly) and attentive service. Great place to celebrate a special occasion.
Great service by friendly staff, the meal was wonderful, with great flavours, the steak was amazing - we will return
Outstanding lunch with first class service. Wonderful presentation and local ingredients.
We came to the Elephant on good recommendation of a chef friend of mine who nows runs the Shaldon to Teignmouth Ferry. He was quite correct that this is an excellent restaurant with superb food backed up by a great ambience and service from very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
A pleasure to visit and good value considering eh quality and detailed presentation of the food.
My accountant was thrilled and looks forward to another visit (250 miles away) next time round.
Really great experience from the quality of the food to the service. We really appreciated the extra little touches that the staff did that just made the whole evening unforgettable.
This was our first visit to the Elephant and we were most impressed with the excellent standard of food and similarly the service.
Our only criticism of the set lunch was that there was only one sweet offered. However it did not detract from our enjoyment of the whole meal and we will certainly be visiting again and recommending to our friends and family.
The anniversary greeting card was a lovely touch and the window table was much appreciated.
After a good walk with some longstanding friends who had not been to Torquay for 30 plus years we were grated into the restaurant and proceeded to get warm.
The meal, staff and ambience were wonderful. As a local Holiday home owner we have been many times and find food is of an excellent standard every time.

Special night once again at one of the best restaurants in Torbay. Excellent food well worth the high prices .
Service and food excellent for lunch menu. Will certainly revisit earliest opportunity .
Had a few days Break to Torquay.
Did my homework and found the best resturants in Torquey and booked The Elephent as one of them.
The front of house Team were helpful and informative.
I found the food imaginatve and well presented.
I started with the Brixham crab with apple, It was very bland.
Followed by Southdown Lamb with Thyme Jus. Again very uneventful. I found the lamb to be lacking of any Lamb taste and the Savoy Cabbage base a waste of time and unable to draw any flavours together.
The desserts were very good but alas could not make up for the lack of flavour in the two prior dishes.
Both my two other guests felt the same. One having the same as myself the other having Duck Liver Parfait followed by the Aged Beef, which he enjoyed but did feel for the level of awards the chef had acquired the meal was very average.
We were disappointed
The bill was to the level I would of expected from an out of City restaurant but was marred by the fact we were disappointed with the lack of flavour to the food.
Obviously the Chef and his Restaurant are rated highly and have had great success and we are only 3 customers out of many.
But i did feel dissapointed and felt i did need to air our views
Me and my wife came here the other evening for our anniversary, this is my 3rd visit to the elephant ...the food was absolutely fabulous, the staff were very attentive we had a wonderful time , would recommend here to everyone
Fantastic from start to finish. Excellent service and food was outstanding. Perfect for celebrating a special birthday. We even had a birthday card from the staff at the restaurant which was a lovely touch. Catered well for our five year old too.
This is always our first choice for a get together as the food and ambience are excellent.
The Elephant is one of our favourite places to eat! The staff are always polite and can never do enough for you. The food is gorgeous and presented so well. The menu is always well balanced and always seasonal.
Although the food was good (with the exception of the potatoes which had obviously be reheated and therefore tasted rather strange), there was nothing special about any of the courses. I was expecting a cleverer use of the ingredients and it was hard to taste any passion in the The chef’s cooking. The staff were friendly enough but again there was no real attention to detail and we had to get our own coats from the clock room as the waitress had forgotten. As for the decor, the whole place felt a bit like being in a Witherspoons, with no clear design focus or particular interest in creating a warm, interesting or asthetically pleasing environment.
All in all our experience was underwhelming!
As a foodie, I was left bitterly disappointed by my experience here. The food, whilst you may say is Michelin star, it certainly is not. The fillet steak was lacking seasoning and flavor, whilst the Dauphinoise were bland. The service was absolutely shocking for an establishment of this type, we were instantly judged upon arrival for bringing our 1 year old son and not once during our meal did anyone ask if our food was OK, or top up my glass, or pour the wine single handed from the bottom, as you would expect. To add to matters, our starters were not cleared away before we got our mains and sat there for the duration of our meal cluttering the table. When i went to pay the bill, there was an infuriating 10% service charge on top. Clearly we had not had the service we would have expected, yet i was expected to pay for it. We also made the effort to dress for the occasion whilst we needn't have bothered as it seemed they are willing to let in any detritus off the street, even though they have a business casual dress code. I will not recommend this establishment to anyone, there are far better brasseries & gastro pubs out there for half the price.
Most enjoyable meal with excellent and welcoming service. Would definitely recommend for that something different in Torquay.
Food was above average however a side dish of new potatoes was served as Dauphinois. Our main courses were on the table so we eat part without the side dish. On arrival the potatoes were just warm and the herb butter they were served in remained solid. When we pointed this out we received apologies and were not charged for them.
We were also asked within 5 mins of receiving the menus if we were ready to order.
Staff were nice, food was good but was it worth £125.00 for 3 courses two people with wine, not sure really.
A lovely evening meal. The filet of beef entree was as good as anything I've ever tasted.
Brilliant as always took my mum her first time she wanted her dessert 5 times over it was so good! Service and food was fabulous.
Everything was entirely up to the previous experience that we had enjoyed, with excellent service and a good choice of menu.
