   We chose this restaurant based on recommendations from locals. However, there are much better spots! I was disappointed at a new hip restaurant running out of food and wine at 6pm. To those visiting Halifax and wanting to try local food - visit others instead of this.

   Service was mediocre at best. had to ask at on three occasions to have water refilled... There is little value for the prices being charged. The Lobster and Shrimp pasta had one lobster claw and two 20-25 count shrimp .. for $34 was a total rip off. Good flavours to most of the items we had, but way over priced.

   I had a friend visiting from out of country and I wanted to show off one of Halifax's new hot spots. The food did not disappoint! It was excellent, especially the sea food apps and mains. However, we tried to order a bottle of wine from the menu and they were out. Then, we had tried to order two different gin & tonic cocktails from their menu (they only have four of these cocktails) and they were out of both gins... (one being from the Compass Distillery I had been talking up). I was disappointed in how much of their selection was unavailable. Hopefully they can work on ordering enough stock to get them through a weekend.

   This is hands down my favorite place for dinner. From the Bombay Gin & tonic flavored with a liqueur & licorice to the surf & turf & the little barbecued chicken appetizers it was beyond delicious. I was glad I broughtvmy appetite as tge portions were generous & the next seafód super fresh.

    After making a reservation had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Waited as other people that came in after us were seated. It was mentioned because people do not always leave when expected that smaller tables were not available. However a couple came in and were seated right away before our eyes. The front desk was apologetic and offered us a couple of small glasses of wine. Attempted to move on from that and enjoy the evening once seated. We really enjoyed our meal however between our appetizer and our main course it took what seemed forever and no one came near for at least 30 minutes. Good thing I had great company to converse with. Had higher hopes for the service and had really wanted to shares a new place with my fiance.

    Had the seafood bar sampler which was okay. We were excited to order the 32oz tomahawk but very disappointed when we were told they were all out! After a few drinks an appetizer which was $300 we had decided to go to another restaurant to get a steak dinner.

    After sitting down we had a long wait before being recognized as being there... We almost got up to leave but then got some service. Our waiter was not having a good day; we could tell his mind was elsewhere. Regardless, the meal itself was really nice. The location is very good and it is a comfortable place to dine.

    I would recommend friends to go for drinks as the restaurant is beautiful and the staff went above and beyond. However I was disappointed in the food. We ordered Oysters, which were lovely. We then shared onion rings and shrimp cocktail, also were good. However we had the pork belly stuffed burger and fish tacos and they were quite disappointing. The fish tacos were no different than the fish tacos I've had at the Irving Big stop and the burger was similar to the "cheeseburger" at my high school cafeteria (it was a ground beef and cheese whiz mixture on a bun). The restaurant blew me away. I would say you have one of the best atmospheres in the city. The food needs to rise to the same level. Sorry for the harsh food review. I've owned my own business and I would want to know if something needed to be tweaked!

    The menu and atmosphere are great! We would definitely give this place another try. Tuna tartar and the seafood combo were excellent but my baked mushroom penne was quite salty although flavorful. Drink menu is large and drinks are tasty. There decor is lovely and there are many options for seating so make sure to specify if you have requests when booking. The five of us were seated at a booth with a round table and were able to have conversation without being bothered by the noise. All the other servers that came around were very lovely but we did not get any smiles from the one assigned to us. He also did not make sure he got the orders from everybody and kept hurrying away. With a friendlier server the experience qould have been much better but it wont steer us away as perhaps he was just having an off day!

    The social platters were amazing! We shared two of them and we were stuffed! The beignets were delicious! 10/10 recommended trying them. My favourite was the crab dip, the twist on a typical artichoke and cheese dip definitely made the meal! The restaurant’s modern chic ambiance and contemporary design were astounding, which was second only to the amazing view from the restaurant!

    It's an expensive dinner out that's for sure but with that said. the food was really good. The vibe is definitely more of a younger crowd...(I am over 40) but the energy was good. I had been before for lunch with work and it was a bit disappointing that there was no lunch menu because half of the entrees you can't order at lunch, only dinner. Again though, food was good.

    First time dining here and was not disappointed. Went from bar to booked table on time. Table by the windows with comfortable seats. Cocktail Scotia Blues was a great start. 3 social plates, mains and desserts. Food and service was first class. Unrushed, non-pretentious and delicious. Music and atmosphere was great. Halifax needs more places like this We both had a great night.

    I absolutely love this restaurant as far as the decor and ambiance. The staff are lovely and service is great. That said, this is the second time I’ve eaten here that my entree has been less than great. Maybe it’s just my choice of vegetarian meals, but the Halibut was over cooked and then the tempeh was dry and not marinated long enough. I did have the octopus appetizer and that was awesome. I will keep trying... 3rd time hopefully the charm.

    We had an amazing experience at the Exchange on Hollis. The atmosphere was alive, the service was excellent from the greeting to the table. The appetizer was delicious, I highly recommend the Tuna Tartare. The entrée was excellent and the desert (House Made Beignets) were described as "life changing" by the server, which is as close to accurate as you can get!! A must try.

    Food was very good, although service was a little slow (had to ask several times for water and for replacement cutlery). It was quite noisy, but it was a Saturday night, so probably to be expected. We would definitely go back but we will be sure to request a booth when making the reservation, as the tables are tiny and it was difficult to maneuvre around plates and glasses.

    There were 3 of us and all 3 mains were fantastic. We had the halibut, steak frites and ribs. All were very good, but the hLibut was amazing. This is my 3rd time at XOH and I have enjoyed all 3 times. We had a lovely server and she was very good.

    Have been there a handful of times now. GREAT space, friendly servers! However EVERY order has had some error! Steak ordered medium rare arrives well done.... salad ordered with added salmon arrives without it and we wait another 10-12 minutes before the salmon add-on arrives.... salmon dinner entree comes with great sides of mashed potatoes and roasted carrots but the salmon itself is over-salted and (hence) dry. Servers are great about comping a dessert if you are not satisfied but still they need to improve quality of food output! One suggestion too - would like to see some kind of pizza appetizer option under social sharing plates on the menu as the choices are not so appealing here. Otherwise bright well designed space deserving of better food quality!

    The food is good, but there definitely are better places in the city. Place is extremely loud. Could barely hear my husband speak. We had a reservation at 7:45 and weren't seated until 8:20. We were not the only table with a reservation, which had to wait for a long period of time.

    Our first visit to XOH. Reservation time delayed by 25 minutes but we were treated with a complimentary glass of Rose. A great way to show appreciation to your patrons. Our server Marie was pleasant and attentive. Food was devine. Birthday cake desert was a bonus and a lovely surprise! Thank you. The cake was so delicious too! My husband was a little disappointed to not have his Pinot Noir served in a proper Pinot Noir glass. A minor observation that not everyone would notice. We will definitely come back for another fabulous experience. Thank you.
