We were looking forward to an upscale dinner experience unfortunately the setting was sparse / boring , and the noise level was uncomfortable. With no carpet, curtains, linens or acoustic tile everything echoed. The “ Indian experience” food was overpriced and largely unremarkable. Having to pay extra for rice was unusual. The butter chicken was delicious however and more than enough for two people after a samosa and another appetizer. Our server was pleasant and personable.
Our server was absolutely super and food was awesome. Thank you
We have eaten here a couple times and have always had an excellent experience. The ingredients are free, local and the dishes are inspired. It’s on the pricy side, but worth every penny.
We went there for our anniversary & got the window table I asked for but 2 of the customers were extremely loud & irritating, one sat behind us the the other was on the other side of the curtain in a group of 8. Very inconsiderate to all the other tables around them that are trying to enjoy their conversation, company & meal.
Otherwise our waitress was great & the food was delicious.
Food was generally very good. Ambience was very stark. If I go back I will wait until nice weather to be outside. Service very pleasant and friendly although not strictly professionally trained.
Great ambience, food and service.
Excellent restaurant, I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for great dining in Niagara on the lake. The burrata and fig was delicious, and the slow braised beef was so soft you could cut it with a fork. I would definitely come back here when I'm back at Niagara on the lake.
Beautiful location, very bright dining room. Server was very attentive to our needs, and they made our anniversary occasion feel special. Highly recommend.
Nice modern setting and excellent service. Food was just okay.
Pizza with chorizo sausage was not baked enough and doused in sauce - so it was partially raw and soggy.
Butternut squash risotto was cooked perfectly, nice saffron and nut crumble but it lacked seasoning - so end result was bland.
Would recommend the Sticky Toffee pudding which was very good.
Had dinner at the Gate House on Friday night…the place was super quiet and definitely lacked energy and good vibes. We chose to sit outside as inside seemed way too quiet. There was no music inside just the sound of forks on plates. Outside had some quiet music and two of the three heaters were working. Became a bit cold after some time. The food was delicious and that’s super important. The menu is short and sweet and has enough to please anyone I think. A limited menu only means the dishes they do have will be on point. The bar is very limited though and besides basic drinks there was very little variety (no bartender either). Service was great - the waitress had no issue relocating us from inside to outside and then again closer to a heater. We were happy with the food but the atmosphere wasn’t anything special.
An enjoyable lunch on the patio. Butternut Squash & Sage Risotto was excellent! Will come again!
Very good food, friendly waitress.
We were a bit surprised to be seated outside but it was warm enough with a jacket.. then it started raining and we were about to get really wet.. but we then got a nice table indoors.
Everyone friendly, food great. We would definitely go back.
The soup - butternut squash and chili aioli with roasted sage - was a gourmet delight! Along with the burger and quiche, our party of 3 thoroughly enjoyed our meals. And our enjoyment was beautifully complemented by our most personably helpful server, Melody (so sorry if I’ve misspelled your name). The patio location was ideal for late afternoon lunching/dining. Excellent in every way possible - we will definitely be back!
We were a party of 4 who dined at the Gate House on Thanksgiving Day for lunch. The weather was beautiful so we were able to dine on the patio. We all had different entrees and all were very good. Our server, Kirsten, was friendly, efficient and passionate about her work. It was a great way to spend Thanksgiving Day and birthdays for 2 of the diners.
Very pleasant lunch, with good service. Nice setting outside.
Ambiance of a surgery room with to much light. Food below average and a bad service. I do not recommend that restaurant
I’ve visited Gate House twice now and both times our experience was amazing! The food is fantastic, our server was wonderful, and it’s a quiet romantic spot. Definitely adding GH to the regular restaurant rotation when visiting NOTL. Thank you!
I am glad to hear that you enjoyed your time with us. We hope to be able to welcome you back again in the near future. Until then stay well
Service was reasonably good. My fish and chips was excellent.
My husband enjoyed the steak Tatar, but it should have been an appetizer not a main course. There was not enough food for him.
ArleneL, I am sorry to hear that your husband did not feel the portion of steak tartar was filling enough for him. As your comments and concerns are important to us they have shared with our Chef. We do hope this will not prevent you from visiting us again. New Fall menu is due to come out around October 15th. All the best
I experienced the food as being pretty average and heavy feeling. Service was not great. Had to ask multiple times for things like ketchup and drinks. One of or party’s order wasn’t put in and she wound up eating after everyone else was done.
Hello FoodFirst Thank you for taking the time to let us know about your dining experience. I wish I was made aware of your concerns while you were dining with us so I could have made some concessions for you and your party. Please accept my apologies and assurance, that although human error does occur from time to time it certainly is not the service that is typical of us at The Gate House. I hope you will allow us another opportunity to show you our true service style. Kindly
Great dinner, excellent service. A somewhat limited menu. We were on the patio and it started to pour during dinner but everyone was kept dry and in a strange way it enhanced the atmosphere.
Thank you for your kind words and embracing the experience during one of our many Fall storms this year. Kindly
Kortney did an amazing job looking after us and all of the tables here!! She was extremely upbeat and always smiling!! Ps food was almost as good the service
Thank you Ron. Courtney is an amazing server and person and we are extremely lucky to have her on our team.
Didn't enjoy it -- didn't live up to our expectations of Treadwell's reputation.
Glad to eat there again. It was quite cool during our dinner there are no heaters and very limited wine selction. Food was good and the service was excellent.
Food was absolutely horrible. Have eaten there many times before as live nearby. I had the quiche which I have had before, top was burned to brown, little tiny bowl of basic salad that was warm, dressing barely a dressing.. like they just splashed a little oil and vinegar... no flavour...something you would get at a fast food place. Husband had the club sandwich, his fries came a deeo brown colour almost burnt... big piece of the rib of iceberg lettuce hanging out of his sandwich, No flavour again. Really plain and basic food... other than location/venue... dont see how this place would survive. Too bad to see it go so dowhnhill. Sad as one of the town patios we like to sit at... but now will likely not return.
Wonderful patio and delicious food. Fresh and local, both food and wine
Lovely peaceful patio and delicious food. Limited patio menu but something for everyone. We sat by the corner fountain nearer the sidewalk which was made up of 3 tables (2 for 2 people and 1 for 4-5 people). I felt bad for the waitress who had to walk quite a ways from inside the restaurant to way out to the small patio by the sidewalk. But she didn’t seem to mind and was very attentive and efficient. Steak was a little overdone but I attribute it to the long way from the kitchen, it was delicious though and perfectly seasoned. The quiche was also delicious as was the white chocolate raspberry panna cotta.
Quality food and very flavourful. Exceptional service!
Menu is casual and limited (which was a positive for what we were looking for) but the surprise was quality and size of the portions was excellent and the service was absolutely top notch (I wish I had got her name, she usually works at sister resto Treadwell).
Seated outside and it was very chilly. Waitress missed order and we ended up canceling it and leaving
Great service and delicious food served in a beautiful setting
Our server; Katie was AMAZING!
The food was delicious too
First time eating here - we love Treadwell's so knew this would be wonderful. A great anniversary lunch on the patio. Everything was exceptional - they even split the burrata salad we started with - they think of the little things. Thank you for a wonderful lunch on a hot day!
My spouse and I booked dinner at the Gate House yesterday evening. Wow! What an excellent experience and Amazing customer Service! The hostess ( a young dark haired young lady, I sadly did not get her name) greeted us and kindly advised that although we had a reservation a table wouldn’t be ready for about 10 minutes due to a delay with turnover a table. She was very apologetic. We waited patiently for our table as the current patrons were taking there sweet time and we could see they were oblivious to the waiting guests. The wait staff was very kind and handled things exceptionally well especially the hostess ( she was awesome and did everything she could - she went above and beyond). The hostess brought us complimentary glasses of sparking Scarpetta while we waited for the table to turnover as they were booked solid. When we were seated the manager came over to our table apologized and thanked us again for our patience and gave us a complimentary appetizer as well. Our waitress and the staff apologized several times and were amazing. The food was excellent and the service was out of this world. Overall an awesome experience and I would highly recommend! Great Value and experience! *
My husband and I Had the burger which was really good. We had a side of salad but the vinegar in the dressing was so strong that I was unable to eat it. We also ordered a side of fries which were excellent but much too salty. Very nice staff.
Great, friendly service! Food was okay. Good ambience.
Had a wonderful lunch on a Sunday afternoon on the way to Toronto ate outside sipped wine just great
Well, to say we had a disappointing time is unfortunately the truth. We arrived on time yet had to wait 15 minutes. That would have been better tolerated with offer of a bench. Or water. Or cocktail. We were finally seated at a table for 2 on the sidewalk by the fountain. At first we thought, very special spot until we realized that the fountain motor was malfunctioning and unbearable to sit beside. There was no moving to another table as it was clear the upper area patio by the building was full. There was also a tent on site which looked to have options for seating guests. It was a hot night. That wouldn’t have been a good option.
The host came by about 10 Minutes in and placed 2 empty glasses on our table. The water arrived a little later.
Eventually we placed our drink order. There is strictly 2 cocktail options and a solid wines list. Neat thing is the local wines offered are all the same price a bottle, $50.
We ordered a bottle of wine and one aperol spritz.
We placed our order of mussels, Steak frites and the Tagliatelle which we were told was a big hit. Couldn’t wait!!
At 8:30, we still had not received our first course. No bread. Nothing. It would have been nice to have something to soak up all the alcohol. The mussels arrived at 9:00 pm.
We had been there now, 1.5 hours. When the kitchen server dropped off our mussels, we requested plates. Eventually our server came by and we requested plates again for our mussels. He did bring two. By now it was so dark we couldn’t see our food. The mussels did come with two slices of garlic bread which was soggy. In the meantime the fountain motor was deafening. We measured the decibel level for curiosity sake…78. Like a vacuum.
Finally we asked the server when our main courses would be coming. He sincerely said, I can’t say…?? Maybe 10-15 minutes more…at this point 1:45 mins in, we called it. Cancel our meals.
As our anniversary weekend it was so disappointing. Painful.
Not sure if was an Open Table thing or the restaurant, but the link via open table made it seem that there were 3 menu options (lunch, dinner and the Treadwell menu). There was only the Gatehouse menu and we had booked with the express hope of getting the Treadwell menu.
The food was never the less good and we were happy with the selection offered. The service was lacking and I understand that it was likely because everyone is having trouble with getting the required staff, but it was a bit too casual for the cost of the meal and our expectations of the place. We had been wanting to go for many years and this was a special occasion that we were celebrating and so were a bit disappointed in the overall experience.
The food does not match the restaurant meaning it's a beautiful setting the patrons are all dressed nicely and you are eating the most basic food for not basic prices.
Vacation. Great evening. Service was great!
