Great food and ambience
PROs: The food was great, drinks were excellent, and the staff were friendly.
CONs: We were a group of 8 and the mezze style of service is a bit too disjointed. Some people were quite away through their meals before others received their meals. Also, the noise level was a bit too high. The DJ's music was fine, it was just a bit too loud to have a conversation without shouting. We were there on a Saturday night so we want to come back mid-week and see if the noise is not as intrusive.
Hands down my favourite Greek spot in Vancouver
Went for a late Happy Hour with friends. Seated in balcony area. Great server and good start to the night!
Absolutely amazing. Loved the decor and one of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver so far! Server/manager with the beard was amazing and super kind. Was attentive and took great care of us. Will definitely be back and refer others!
Came for dineout and was called and told on the DAY OF the reservation, 2 hours before (6pm on a Saturday), that we would have to vacate by 10pm (our reservation was for 8pm) as it was their 1 year anniversary party. It would get loud around 9.30pm as an FYI too. Firstly, we were a party of 5 and made this reservation around 2 weeks ago. Plenty of time for a warning ahead of time so we could make another reservation. Day of, on a weekend, for a larger party is not acceptable at all. Where else were we supposed to go?
Food took AGES to come out, we had to ask for the dineout menu (it took around 15 minutes for them to come back every time a request was made). Anyhow, I am currently writing this review at 11pm, and our dessert has not been served. It was loud as soon as we arrived, zero attention from the servers (does anyone actually work here?), and it seemed like the hostess had to take on a lot of serving. Our appetizers arrive after probably 45minutes, but alas only 4/5 have come. The 4 of us have finished, before the 5th even gets her order. No apologies were made for this. The manager, although on the floor as well, cruises by with a smile often enough, but no offer of apology for the hour wait in between our starter and main. We barely get our water topped up and every time someone did, only 1 glass would be filled although all were empty. Oh and this whole time music is being blasted by an inferior DJ to the extent our seats are vibrating and chest too. The restaurant should have SHUT DOWN for a party, instead of calling their patrons on the day of their reservation to be told of this uncomfortable dining experience.
I love The Greek for its food, drinks and service (usually). Tonight was just a one off I’m sure, but I don’t think patrons should ever be treated in this manner.
Poor service. Took forever to be served. Ask for dessert and when if did not come asked for bill. Would not recommend this restaurant. They should have been more prepared especially with dine out Vancouver in place. Not sure why baklava which would have been made earlier in the day could not have been served for dessert after main course 30 minutes later. Too bad. Mousaka was good.
Always great Greek at The Greek. You can’t go wrong with the food. This location is quieter than the Yaletown in my opinion so I prefer it.
Make a reso to ensure a spot.
We did Dine Out so the dishes are a bit smaller but normal share is great.
Service was slow but the food was good. We attended for the Dineout festival.
We were in town for my friends bachelorette and after getting a highly rated recommend we decided to come here. When we arrived we were told we had to give our seat up at 7:45 for a 35 person party and our guests were a bit late, so we made sure to order quickly. We ordered dine out which looked fantastic and the waitress didn’t tell us anything about the timing of it. She was lovely! We noticed them sit other small parties so assumed that the big party hadn’t arrived and so we continued to enjoy our food. At around 8:15, we saw the party arrive and were told by another gentleman (manager?) that we had to move to the bar but only for half an hour. We hadn’t finished our meal and was awaiting our dessert. There wasn’t proper seating for us at the bar and the noise level was so high we decided to leave. It was a very poor ending to what would be a great night. I was very disappointed because it was a special evening. They did comp one of our rounds of drinks however My friend paid for the bride to be’s tab but things got shuffled and I had to pay it again.
We planned on having the dine out menu but when sat they didnt have the menu available. When asked about the DOVF menu they informed me that the menu is available but they didnt want too many menus to choose from for the guest. Found this odd, why offer DOVF menus but not present them to the guests? Weird. The food was just okay Nothing special to be honest. Smaller portions than most greek restaurants. The octopus came out barley luke warm as if it was sitting out for ten minutes. It came on a "sizzling cast iron" plate yet it wasnt sizzling! Everything else came hot. The greek salad is NOT worth 13 dollars. Not only was the portion small for 13 dollars, but they cut the cucumbers in ribbons creating a very WET dish. It was super soggy and it came with significantly less feta than the table below us (two level restaurant) and I could clearly see other greek salads with lots more feta going out to other tables. The saganaki was wayyy over cooked and not worth the price. Being a huge greek food lover, this wasnt fresh food. The service was definitely below average. The server seemed confused when I asked her what the portion differences were between the DOVF and regular menu. Also we were told that if both of us wanted DOVF menu we BOTH had to get it because the kitchen will get confused. Why wouldn't the kitchen be able to handle either menus? Is this not a fully running restaurant? She did remove the octopus from our bill when she saw how cold the octopus was. Overall for the price, portion size, type of restaurant (located in gas town) I expected more from an establishment like this.
Very friendly servers. They made recommendations to suit our table. The food delicious
Good quality food, lovely ambience...would definitely come back again!
We have enjoyed two meals at the Greek and have had a wonderful experience both times. The service is excellent and the food very good. Comfortable family style dining but in an energetic and trendy room. Highly recommended for a night out with friends or a family dinner - The Greek is perfect for both.
I had tried the orinal branch in Yaletown; as a first experience with the Gastown location, the food was average; very salty and fatty lamb chops and lamb shoulder. The noise level was extremely high and we could not hear each other.
The dine out menu was great. Really enjoyed the food and service was quick and friendly. Music was a bit loud but overall a fantastic meal
I went for Dine Out menu and it was amazing. Get the table order everything and share. I love the octopus! It’s a repeat visit for the food!
Ambiance and food were good, service wasn’t. Our server disappeared after taking our order. No one checked to see how we were enjoying our dishes, no one asked us if we’d like more drinks and water was refilled when we asked for the bill. Speaking of the bill, when we asked our waitress for for it, she disappeared again and the waitress serving the table beside us noticed we were ready to go and inquired if we needed anything. She was friendly and prompt even though it wasn’t her table. Lastly, no one explained what ‘mezzie’ style was. Had we known it was like ordering tapas we would have ordered differently.
We were seated upstairs and it seemed our server kept forgetting we were there. It certainly wasn’t busy. I ordered the octopus and it was charred, WAY over cooked and so dried out. The flavours were just average and pretty far from Greek. I won’t be back.
Still keeping up with the great food of their Yaletown counterpart, however, maybe still working out the details on the service as some food items came much later than others and drinks took a while to be refilled. Nice setting.
The waiter was rude when we tried to get her attentions to order some food for happy hours food on the menu.
Nice experience, but not the most amazing Greek food. Staff was nice and they didn't rush us at all.
Fantastic dinner and service. They easily accommodated our extra guest and the food was delish! Highly recommend.
Great food, bad music later in the evening, waitress was a little too eager to remove dishes with food still on them. Was asked if I wanted another drink with a tone like 'why wouldn't I?' and she seemed a little displeased when I said no.
Food was excellent & beyond great! But the service...needs help. Hard to get a servers attention. I needed water refilled but hard to get attention. Forgot an appetizer I ordered. What’s needed is a strong restaurant manager to be visible & keeping an eye on things. The young girls working there seemed inexperienced.
Anatoli Souvlaki has been my favourite restaurant, hands down, for over 15 years. This place is Anatoli Souvlaki reimagined and taken up a notch. It's the same food we all know and love, but elevated. We love coming here for lunch or dinner and the service is always great.
Hadn’t visited the gas town location before and was looking forward to trying it. Unfortunately, the music was so loud we weren’t able to stay for our meal as planned. The noise level was more suited to a nightclub than a restaurant - which doesn’t really work if you are trying to have a business dinner.
Excellent location. Great food ambiance and service. Will definitely go back.
This is a modern vibe on classic Greek restaurants. The food was excellent and the ambience made for a enjoyable evening out with friends.
Great experience at The Greek in Gastown for my birthday this year. All the staff, but especially our server, made sure we had a great table, speedy service and answers to all our questions. My partner and I order much smaller meals these days. We shared a small calamari plate for appetizer then the Country Lamb Platter. More than enough food for the two of us on that platter. Luscious, juicy slow roasted lamb with just the perfect amount of mint on top. Roasted veggies still had a little crunch. And crispy outside, creamy inside Greek roasted potatoes are always my favourite. We sat on the balcony in their charming, airy space. And did I mention the prices are affordable? Loved it.
Enjoyable place for appies and sangria. Nice location in Gastown. Service was friendly.
Always have the best time @The Greek! Food, service and ambiance are all fantastic!!
We were visiting friends. We live in California and were in White Rock for a week.
Food was exceptional but the service was really slow.
The food was absolutely amazing! Great flavours and perfect portion sizes. The only thing I found was that the music was just a few notches too loud. As a group we found it quite difficult to chat to each other and found ourselves shouting across the table.
Had lunch with a few friends. Was easy to change the date of the reservation. Service was good, came back often to refill the water glasses and the food was good.
Fantastic room and amazing food. The service was adequate but took very long to be visited at our table. This was made right by the owner who visited our table by bought the first round and a appie on the house. Everything was a 5 out of 5 apart from the server.
Go check it out!!!
The food was ok. The calamari was not crispy. The Greek salad was good. The waitress packed the Greek salad, calamari, and the fava bean purée mushroom in 1 container. The food became 1 big mess after. Terrible waste. I had 3 container to carry home because they don’t give you paper bag. We were told because of the environment. But yet they provided unnecessary paper straws when most people are perfectly fine sipping directly on the glass. It was an ok experience
Loved the food, the service, and the atmosphere. Will definitely go back!
The Country Lamb was fall-off-the-bone phenomenal. Service was great. Would come again.
