Prime Dry Age Filet Mignon
My medium 10oz Filet Mignon was charred a bit on outside so every slice I had left that charred taste in mouth. Brussel sprouts were undercooked falling short of being considered al dente. Nice atmosphere with a great view. Fully staffed. Very professional and friendly. The higher prices certainly reflect that.
Celebrated an anniversary and birthday. Had impeccable service, a delicious meal and ambiance spectacular.
We had a special surprise ending to our meal with the dessert that captured the attention of the entire room in awe. A terrific way to end the celebration.🎊
Let me start by saying that I have been going to the original Highlawn Pavilion with my family for as long as I can remember. In it's hay day, was my Dad's favorite place for the elegant, serene, old school fine dining experience that was of course, enhanced by it's spectacular view. There were not as many tables, there was a more open and airy feel to the place---unlike now where I felt like we were packed in like sardines. I understand that more tables means more profit, but it definitely cancels out the feeling of calm and elegance that used to be, now replaced by a VERY high noise level. "Back in the day," service was warm, calm, and doting. Always by a gentleman in his perfectly styled suit and tie. He would welcome us to our table, taking our drink order, and then ultimately our dinner order. Only when our food was being served would he then be assisted by a waiter/busboy or two, as they worked in perfect unison putting our food down in front us. It was like a perfectly choreographed dance. The well dressed gentlemen would then come back to check after a few minutes to make sure that everything was to our liking. Coffee and dessert would be ordered and served just as smoothly---again...in a calm, elegant way. But this past Fri night I felt like we were in a crowded, noisy diner. While they did a very nice refresh on the decor, we dined in an overcrowded, VERY loud room where the waitstaff (while working hard), where running around like chickens with their heads cut off, yelling out to each other trying to serve an all too crowded dining room. No hello, no introduction, just a rushed "are you ready to order?" Our $22 piece of barrata was not soft, oozy, and creamy on the inside (as it should be), but DRY AS A BONE. Should have sent it back in hind sight. Bread LOOKED great, but was completely stale. Crab cake had that orange colored breadcrumb coating you get on boxed frozen fish in the grocery store. Cappuccino clearly re-heated in microwave.
Great view ansld ambiance!
What a great night. We walked in and were wowed by the enormous Christmas tree that was decorated beautifully. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated so we went to the bar and had a couple of great cocktails. They had a piano player that was really enjoyable. So the wait was very pleasant. Then we got a beautiful seat by the window with a view of NYC. We shared a meatball that was one of the best I have ever had. Followed by a dry aged new york sirloin that tasted incredible and was cooked beautifully. My wife and I split the Highlawn sunday that was a delicious treat layered in flavor as it had brownies, candied walnuts, cherries fresh whipped cream...
Great night and we will be back !
Our experience at the Highlawn was exceptional. From the moment we walked in, the attention to detail was amazing. Wonderful service and wonderful food (and gorgeous restaurant!). My family thoroughly enjoyed it!
would not return
The view is spectacular, the service superb, loved the caring staff at all levels.
We were there for Thanksgiving Dinner and enjoyed the mushroom soup and sides but the main dishes -- Turkey and Filet Mignon did not match the ambiance. Worth a trip for all the trappings, but foodies won't be overly impressed.
Seafood and Steaks were outstanding. I am glad I took my friends advice and tried it out!
Was there for a business dinner. We all had a great time. The Frito Misto was crispy and served with a really different but enjoyable sauce. The Meatball everyone at the table could agree was out of this word. Steaks were best in town and desserts were a nice finishing touch. Service was really good and fun live music!
The food was great! The service was even better. Alexander was very attentive and made sure he gave amazing service but also outstanding effort to make the night a perfect evening with my family. Bringing my 4 year old a small tea cup so she could enjoy tea with dessert is just an example of how mindful he was to make sure everyone enjoyed dinner. Many thanks!
Wonderful place to celebrate life special people and moments!
Amazing service and food! Beautiful and buzzy space!
I like the remodeling of the restaurant. It is now a place with ample light and as usual with phenomenal views of the skyline of NYC. The food was excellent, service attentive and impeccable. I would go back there without a second thought.
Excellent ambiance,. View of the city was spectacular, two piece band was good and the service was great.
Amazing food and Amazing Service! Great meal we will be back.
What a meal the seafood was really fresh and the steaks were amazing. We had a very good meal and enjoyed the live music at the bar.
Went for dinner. My wife and I decided to eat at the bar. They allowed us to order off the dinner menu which was nice. We shared some amazingly fresh East Coast oysters. Then I had the mini sirloin and she had the bronzino both were excellent. The piano player was exceptional and it was a great bar scene. We will be back!
This is not my parents Highlawn! Love the new look and I was blown away with the food! We sat in a spacious booth looking at the breathtaking view of the city and had oysters, crab cakes, meatballs and the best tomahawk steak I’ve ever had! Desert was amazing as well and staff was super friendly and knowledgeable. I will definitely be back!
Great ambiance good food but expensive
The food was very good. The service was friendly. Our server James was extremely attentive and personable. We will be back!
food was very good, my only problem was the steak, it was very good but it was terrible salty ,like someone had accidentally poured a salt shaker on it. I gave the other 3 people at my table a piece and they all agree, very tasty but way too much salt.rest of the food was great. place was very noisy ,it seemed to come from the other side of the room. owner sat behind me and enjoyed my unusual fork.he can explain!!!!!
ps. did not have several liquor request(absolute and had no orange vodka at all.
The new Highlawn is very different. We really enjoyed our Steaks and the parmesan mashed potatoes were a delicious treat. We split the Highlawn Sunday that was out of this world! We will be back.
What a great find. Really enjoyed the food and service. The blueberry crumble was exceptional!
We were at the Highlawn for a retirement dinner. The staff made it special...even bringing out a special dessert for the table. Thank you Highlawn.
So great to have this beautiful restaurant back. Nothing has changed, the food and the service were impeccable. Highly recommend!
I wanted to write this because I was a little concerned with some of the more negative reviews here. My wife and I made this reservation for our anniversary, and everything was absolutely splendid. No, this is not the Highlawn Pavilion of old, but it was nevertheless a fantastic experience for a higher-quality steakhouse. Yes, the restaurant was not quiet, but for being filled essentially to capacity, the noise level was very tolerable. We were actually taken in about ten minutes earlier than our reservation, and the views from the window, as always, were simply awe-inspiring. Service was top-notch, with everyone from the table d'hote to our head waiter to our water server being very attentive without being obtrusive. Food arrived hot, and we were not at all rushed. My wife and I both really, really enjoyed the French onion soup, and her cowgirl ribeye and her baked potato each was out of this world. I would say that if they tell you that side dishes are for one person only, unless you have a very robust appetite, you can definitely get away with only one order (aside from the baked potato, which really is only meant for one person). Finally, the sundae really is meant for two, and that actually put me WAY over the top for comfort, LOL. Still, it was decorated so nicely for our anniversary...what a treat! Overall, then, this is not a restaurant you can dine in even once a month, but for any special occasion, The Highlawn can't be beat. We will definitely return.
Thinking it would hv been an beautiful upscale dining experience. It was a total different experience. The noise level was overbearing..a huge family of some 22 ppl celebrating which is absolutely ok but was sooooo loud me & my family couldn't even hear our own voices & we were also celebrating our mom 70 birthday & family visiting from t&t who had to pop migraine pills..we all left with a headache..we ask for another table but only reject by the "it's noisy @ the other side.
For a big family size, they should have a separate part.
For the food ,they need to hv @ least hv a choice of plain salmon not soaked in wine..not even one drinks
Our server was his first day & he did absolutely great & the manager was super sweet & he added a birthday song & icream blow for my mom..
Visited with my family on 10/12/21.
Beautiful highlawn .
Great Job! What an amazing experience! We had a beautiful booth that had some amazing views of new york city. The food and service were top notch!
Definitely not as nearly as good as the old Highlawn, overpriced for the quality.
Great place for a special occasion and celebration.
Great dining experience food and service was excellent and it has a great vibe great entertainment by the bar
The new Highlawn is very good. Pricey wine list but the food is excellent. A little noisy even for a Thursday evening but the view is magnificent and the wait service was superb.
I definitely will return.
SPecial occasion dinner was fabulous.. The service was excellent with a great view!
The wait staff was superb and the ambiance par none, however, given the price of the dishes I really expected more from my meal. This restaurant is in no way in the running for a Michelin star, the food was good, but unadventurous. They make little use of any spice other than the basic middle-American herbs (no Middle Eastern, African or Asian fusion flavors here) and the presentation of the food was less than imaginative.
The dining experience was great . The staff is awesome. Will definitely visit again
What an amazing dining experience. We were here for my wife's birthday. We were greeted with a complimentary glass of rose which was a delightful surprise. We shared oysters which were some of the freshest we have ever tasted. We then split the Italian Salad which looked and tasted delicious. I had a mini Sirloin and my wife a mini Filet mignon both seasoned well and cooked perfectly. Dessert was a Blueberry pie that was the cap of a great night! I almost forgot to mention the picturesque NYC view ! We will be back!
The place is lovely. went on a sunday nite, lovely views of NYC,food was good, typical American fare. Would have like some different choices.....
Service excellent,will return.
Was our 24 anniversary so wanted to do something special and the highlawn was perfect. Drinks at the bar were so good and the dinner in dining room staff was excellent. Will def be back
I decided to treat our niece and her husband to dinner. We opted to come early for our reservation and start at the bar. Great decision! It is a comfortable horseshoe bar and meeting Ashley, the bartender was a joy; not to mention that each of the martinis she made for us: dirty, extra dry and espresso were beyond excellent. My niece loved her glass of white wine which Ashley intuitively selected for her.
The attention of the maître d' was impressive, but a member of the staff cleaning up a customer’s bar spill stopping as we passed and wishing us a good meal was beyond. Where do you see that?
Seated at a window table where we could enjoy the view, I casually asked the server her name and introduced the table. Apparently Courtney told our waiter, Lucas and when he came to the table, he addressed us each by name. If I were still in business, this would be my ´”goto” place.
The wine list runs from affordable to expensive, I selected a Napa Cab that I knew was good value and after meeting the Beverage Manager believe that every price level is a value.
Passing up the raw bar, we shared three appetizers: The Crab Cake was accented with long hots; the octopus was perfectly moist and light and the meatball had a fine, smooth texture, both tight and light perhaps because of the smoked ricotta. We shared a Wedge salad topped with Gorgonzola, tomatoes and pancetta. The waiter accommodated us with a pasta course so we could try their 24-hour Bolognese with short ribs, pork and veal on Calamarata pasta. It was out of this world. For the entrée we shared the Prime Filet Mignon; Lamb Chops and Branzino. The beef was a beautiful, perfect color; the lamb chops were rich and savory yet gentle; and the branzino was mild and savory presented uniquely cut and attractive. We topped that all off with the Blueberry Cobbler and the Chocolate Mousse. It seemed that the blueberries were picked just before serving and all I can say is that they were both a taste of paradise.
