The Host -Toronto
Maybe the best Indian food in Toronto. Went on a Friday at lunch and they had a mostly vegetarian buffet, which was news to me, but had the same quality as when ordering a la carte. Highly recommended.
Booked for dinner as it was within walking distance of our hotel, which was most fortunate for us. The space is small but cozy and tables are well spaced. Service was attentive but respectful and the food was fabulous. Carefully prepared, healthy portions and excellent value. We look forward to another delicious meal at The Host on our next visit to Toronto!
It was a long wait to be served. The lamb roganjosh has an interesting, complex sauce.
The food was amazing but they forgot to bring us our rice. Also there was a group on the other side of the restaurant that was loud and really obnoxious. Obviously not the restaurant’s fault, but just know that it could be noisy if there is a loud group.
Great food, ambiance and meal. Not our first and won’t be our last. This visit we were a group of 7 and everyone loved the whole experience. Some of us with gluten and lactose issues were assured of menu choices our taste buds would love and our bodies too, and they delivered!
We’ll be back.
I have been going to The Host for many years. I think it is the best Indian restaurant in Toronto.
What a gem! I will certainly come again soon. The sizzling plates carried past us to other diners make our mouths water.
Best Indian food restaurant in Toronto!
It is a great place which has been there forever for a reason and very frequented by Indian people therefore, it means is good and serves rean Indian food. We waited over 20 minutes for a table and we had a reservation!
Great food and attentive service for a very nice Saturday evening meal out
The butter chicken was too sweet and the chunks of meet too big and dry to our taste
Great food and great service !
Great food and service.
Hostess was great, she moved us to our preferred table when it became available. Staff were attentive and friendly.
Very nice food and in a great area. The mango dip and chips was great that they give you once you sit down. They also gave us an appetizer to try and an order of rice with our naan because I couldn’t decide which I wanted.
Very nice menu selection, good food and great service.
The food was excellent. Our party of seven had several different dishes and all of us were extremely pleased. However, one of us is a vegan and the staff didn't really understand what that meant. For them vegan chicken was actual chicken prepared without any dairy products, not a meat substitute. Really quite surprising in an Indian restaurant.
It took over an hour and a half for our food to be brought out..not ideal if you go at lunch time..food was great but not worth a wait
the food, ambiance, location is all great. The little put off was the service. We placed the order in advance and being a working lunch wanted a little faster service. the restaurant wasn't full to be a reason for delayed service. Something to work upon.
Overall a great experience.
An excellent dining experience in every way. Wonderful food, pleasant environment and great service
Their Friday lunch buffet is very nicely priced at $18. Wide selection of delicious entrees, apps, and dessert.
Excellent Venue with exquisite Food and Superb Service.
The Staff are extremely efficient and make you feel very welcome.
Excellent Indian food and very pleasant atmosphere.
My favourite spot for a quiet but ambient dinner with family or friends. Outstanding food, warm plates, and lovely service. Always a pleasure.
Great food slow service
Amazing service and super good food.
We were a party of two and shared a delicious dinner of the chili shrimp for our appetizer and the lamb roganjosh, chicken tikka masala and the shrimp biryani for our main. Every dish was delicious and the service was great! We will definitely go back!
The second time I ate there that week. Please see my previous review.
I was seated in the dining room at the rear which was quiet and dimly lit.
Noodle Bhel was very good and refreshing.
Dilli Walla Butter Chicken with Basmati rice was good but not as good as the Noodle Bhel.
This time I had Keith's Canadian beer, which was better than the Cheetah.
My waiter seemed to be somewhat distracted — possibly by a large party dining in the same room.
He didn't bring me the usual plate of puppodums to start and service was somewhat erratic.
Since I was in no hurry, it was not a problem.
Great Indian food as usual and good service.
I discovered this place many years ago. I love Indian food and I make a point of dining here whenever I come to Toronto. The menu is varied and one can hardly go wrong.
I have always been impressed by the number of Indians — often whole families with children — dining here when I visit. I take that as a very good sign.
I very much enjoyed the Manchurian Ghobi recommended by my waiter. The Lamb Rogan Josh with Naan was very nice, and so was Pistachio Kulfi.
Cheetah beer needed more hops. I gather that Kingfisher, which I like, is no longer available.
Delicious lamb & naan!
We dined at The Host for lunch. They provided a smaller menu which offered a great selection of all our favorites and at a great price! A few of our choices .... samosas, butter chicken and their insanely delicious Naan bread were enjoyed by all. Service was excellent.
Excellent restaurant. I have been dining there for many years and enjoy it immensely.
Only and the best place for authentic tasting north indian (punjabi) food. Nice ambeince. Fine dining experience. Love this place!
The Host is a wonderful restaurant --- fabulous authentic food, and the most wonderful warm and calm ambiance! From celebrating a birthday, anniversary and wedding --- it's my go-to restaurant!
Delicious but service was quite slow.
Food was amazing taste and the service very friendly. Would go again
The restaurant itself is quite dated and the atmosphere is not what you would expect to take a date to. The food was a hit and miss, the Bread was great, Lamb Vindaloo was good but the Kadai Chicken was just horrible.
We called the server over and told him that the sauce was basically just tomato sauce without any flavor or taste and boiled pieces of chicken and instead with of apologizing or attempting to correct it he just stood there for sometime and then just left as if it was our problem.
So, overall I would not go there again and definitely would not advise any of my friends to do so either.
