Generally good but not up to the usual Ivy standard. White wines insufficiently chillled, waited 10 minutes to be offered a drink and then only when we asked. Ordered red wine only to be told would have to wait 5-10 minutes.

Food was great and the service was spot on. We ordered course by course as we don’t like having the mains immediately following the starters and they were very accommodating.

Visited for our wedding anniversary on Saturday evening for a meal. We couldn't fault anything at all from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. The food was excellent as was the service we received from the waiter. It was nice not to be rushed or felt like we needed to vacate the table. Thank you.

The ivy is my favourite place to eat, it was the first time I had sat outside as it was very hot, the umbrellas were great but I kept getting hot air from the kitchen which made it quite uncomfortable but apart from that food was spectacular as always, can’t fault the service, will keep coming

This is our 2nd visit to this restaurant and it's really lovely. The waiting staff are smartly dressed and the ambience/decor is lovely. My main gripe on this occasion is that it was my mum's birthday. I received a phone call the day before which was a bad line so I couldn't hear the whole message but I did hear allergies, birthday and chocolate bomb. I called back the day of the reservation to clarify what they were asking. The lady said she wanted to know if my mum had any allergies as it was her birthday and again she mentioned a chocolate bomb dessert. At the end of our meal, I asked the waiter about the chocolate bomb for my mum and was told it's no longer complimentary (hasn't been for some time) and that it would cost £9.95. Eh?? Then why called me and ask about my mum if it's not complimentary? I didn't even want the dessert as we had cake at home. He said it was upselling and a way to sell more desserts but I have to say I was really surprised and it just felt cheeky. It left a sour taste and how many people have been duped into ordering it thinking it is free?

Our waitress was great and the food came out so quick and the best bit was the strawberry and rhubarb royal cocktail 😉 The birthday bomb came out perfectly timed as my friend was thinking about whether to have a dessert or not . Fantastic experience

Setting, decor, atmosphere and location are all fabulous. Food was delicious but all served a bit lukewarm. Service was shocking! Our waitress clearly kept forgetting we were there and we had to wait/chase for everything. The drinks turned up after we had finished our meal (they did take this off the bill) - and our waitress disappeared half way through the dinner and never returned! Very odd. All in all would recommend as it's a lovely restaurant - just hope they heat the food up a bit more....and that you get a different waitress!

OK for the price. I think tables are to close together you can hear other people's conversations. we ordered some extras to go with our meal and they didn't arrive so just 3 star's from us. it was ment to be an anniversary gift so a bit disappointed

I eat here because the poors can't afford to eat here. That means I can enjoy a meal without having to listen to them eat their food with their mouthes open. It also means I don't have to see anyones gut crammed into some "jeggings" as they try to kid themselves that they're not morbidly obese.

Lovely food, very slow service tough, empty plates were left for too long and we had to ask for desert card and coffees etc. Food was otherwise delicious. The outside space could do with some more privacy, maybe some roped boundaries etc as people waking past are literally at the back of your chair.

Booking #: 148376 The Ivy Exeter. We were really hoping for the Wow factor on our first visit to the Ivy Exeter. On arrival we were greeted politely and told our table was just being finished off and asked to wait on the coach for a little while. A Young lady gave us menus and explained that as soon as the table was ready they would come and get us, so far so good. The restaurant looked lovely and my wife and I, on our 20th wedding anniversary were excited. We were Taken to the table and asked what we would like. We both went for the Champagne afternoon tea, my wife had a tea and I had a coffee to go with it. Tea, coffee and Champagne all bought out together which makes no sense. We then waited over 30 mins before a young lady came over to explain that she’d spoken to the manager about where our food was, as normally they come out almost when you order. By this time my coffee was cold and I’d drink my Champagne. Afternoon tea came out and was just plonked on the table, I had to hold one leg of one of the cake stands which was off the table and when the waitress went we then had to rearrange the tiny table to accommodate all the drinks and food. The Waitress returned with some hot water for the dry ice affect but barely had enough for my wife’s and none for mine, she said she’d be back to do mine but never did. Food was ok, nicely presented but the cucumber sandwich bread was very dry. No one came over to ask if we were ok and when my wife asked for some more hot water to top her tea up, she had to ask again as it had been forgotten. I’m not one for moaning as I’ve worked in food industry before and know how hard it can be, but i have to say a service charge of £10 for really no better service than going to Mac Donald’s is awful! For a restaurant like the Ivy, you expect to get a level of service head and shoulders above the rest the. Unfortunately the Level of detail and attention to service needs to be better. Regards Gareth

Four ladies having a day out in Exeter and where else are you going to eat apart from THE IVY. The food, service, and ambience were all exceptional, especially our waitress Eliza who despite a couple of challenges we threw her way, remained calm and super helpful and all with a beautiful smile. We will definitely return.

The Ivy Exeter never disappoints. We had the 3-course lunch which is our favourite and in our view the best thing The Ivy does. You have to ask for the fixed menu as they don’t shout about it. Three courses for £23 is great value and we’ve had some lovely things. Today we had a salmon mousse followed by prawn risotto, and a concoction with meringue, caramel sauce, ice cream and a brownie. All very nice and makes for a lovely leisurely lunch

Second visit, used Open Table added to our booking ‘a quiet table’ @ 12.30pm not offered by server and quite empty? Asked for set menu also not offered. Asked for water - this was bottled and not free. Ordering was fine. Lovely starter of salmon rillette the pulled ham was ok. Waited a while for mains as the restaurant filled up. I had prawn risotto v gd and the steak was good (£4.50 supplement) with an egg and chips. I’d ordered a side of dressed gem lettuce yet didn’t arrive even though I’d reminded halfway through meal. Tbh the waiting staff are in need of proper training. Not asking for old school ‘Silver Service’ yet they are slow to react and the amount of time standing at the screens or just standing looking around is ridiculous.

Lovely place and great afternoon tea. I phoned ahead at midday for our 3.15pm booking reminding them it was my wife's birthday and could they organise a candle in one of the cakes. She assured me she would make this happen although they organise a separate cake especially. This sounded great but to cut a long story short it never happened and no birthday cake. We also had to push them to get our hot drinks when all the food was finished. Disappointing and not sure why a 10% mandatory service charge is active.
