The Keg Steakhouse + Bar - St. Johns
We have been to the Keg a number of times, but over the past few trips we have noticed that both the food and service have improved over the past couple of years. It was always an enjoyable experience, but has become an outstanding experience!
The food was good as KEG does the best steak in town but the strange thing is that it is the only restaurant of its caliber (fine dining) that does NOT offer gluten free bread or burger patty. Even does not have gluten free fries.
Even Jack Astor's below it does have gluten free hamburger buns and separate fryer for fries. How hard is that? In this day and age of prevalent allergies, how can such a good chain not pay attention to this. Having the steaks (most are gluten free) gluten free does not check off all the boxes for people with allergies.
We were a party of 9, and we were fortunate to get the private dining room, which made for an even more eventful night. Although we had have a lot of laughs, it was also nice that we were able to have a conversation with everyone in the room because the noise level was lower
Our server Jason was also amazing..... He fit in well with our group and made for more laughs.
Our food was timely and hot, and even with a crowd of us, their was no complaints. And there was never a shortage of Beverages, Jason kept on top of everything!!
Our server was very good and advised us of the specials and was very attentive and prompt.
Have to say I'm not a fan of the (semi-new) location (St. John's). The high ceilings and open atmosphere, make the environment feel a bit cold and industrial (even with the dark wood and subdued lighting).
The original locale (next door) was much more inviting.
The steaks we had were good, but the twice baked potato on some of the order was a bit burned on top and seemed smaller than usual. One of our group ordered chicken breast which also seemed small and a bit overcooked (dry). The vegetables served were mostly raw and warmed (assume this is on purpose).
Price-wise, I feel am not getting great value for a $40-$50 entree. There's some local independent restaurants that do it better for less cost.
I do realize that much of the price is set by the chain, but my overall feeling is that the value/attraction of the Keg in St. John's is slipping.
Apologies for the negativity, but I expect you want honest impressions to assist you in improving.
French Onion Soup and Garlic baked shrimp were delicious. Loved the atmosphere, and the service was amazing. Loved the guy on the front door! So friendly and welcoming! Will definitely be back!
Everything was excellent
Food was delicious! All six of us agreed. Service was outstanding (our server was Jenna). BUT. We were seated near the bar and, with patrons eating and drinking on the patio, it meant a constant flow in and out of bar and wait staff (and customers going to the washrooms) resulting in the area where we were seating bearing the brunt of the cold temperature. We moved before our meal arrived. No problem. A suggestion: choose another seating area away from the doors to the patio (and we could see many) for patrons when others are enjoying the deck.
Food was delicious and service was good! Had steak and lobster and the bacon wrapped scallop.
Excellent and efficient service. Excellent food. Friendly staff. Great overall experience! The waitress was fairly new on the floor, I think her name was Brienne, she did a great job!
Went out for anniversary table was ready when we got there food was really good
Service was great and food was delicious. Table of six and everyone enjoyed themselves.
Good food and equally good service with no weak points. Notably better than last visit which was a couple of years ago. A bit noisy but nothing to hinder conversation. No hesitations about returning.
Great experience! Good prepared as ordered. Waiter was fabulous!
Excellent service from walking in the door until leaving. The complimentary birthday cake was delicious. We had a great time.
another wonderful evening, celebrating an anniversary with my wife. great food and great service
Nice food and service
We had a great evening at The Keg. Despite the fact that they mixed up my rare and my wife’s med-well steaks, they quickly replaced our plates with correctly cooked and delicious steaks. They gave us a round of drinks on the house for our trouble. Bonus!
Our server was top notch.
Not that I expected any different, but everything was amazing. Our server was fantastic. Our food was top shelf as always. The atmosphere is always awesome there. Thanks for never disappointing. See you again :)
Service was slow and we waited longer then normal for our food. Then when paying the bills everything was mixed up. Our server was pleasant but seemed a little overwhelmed.
Our server was great. Constantly checking on us and very patient, didn't rush us at all. We had a great evening! Can't wait to go back.
We were seated promptly. Our waiter was very good. The food was very good
It was a great experience; you always know what you’re getting and the restaurant itself is very nice. Our server was very personable and efficient as well.
Great food and atmosphere, lively view of the harbour and the service was top notch
As usual The Keg doesn’t disappoint. Great food, great service!
Awesome experience. Great service.
Family birthday, excellent food and service. Will be back again!
Always enjoy the Keg experience. Service and food are very consistent. Never disappointing. It’s our favourite restaurant in this city. Great dining experience with family on Mother’s Day.
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the service was Excellent! Our waiter David was awesome! Thank you
Great food and service . When there for Mother's Day and was not disappointed!
Food was delicious....steak was very tasty as usual! Very friendly servers....I really enjoyed Mother’s Day!
My mom and I was very disappointed with our meals. I had the blu cheese fillet. They changed their recipe they used to have more of a whipped blu cheese on top of the steak, now they have more like a crusted baked cheese. It’s not nearly as good as before. :( My Mom has the pistico salmon. With maple pistachios on top. Which she thought was awful. She said it was too sweet. I have to say for the money you send at the keg I was not happy.
We had a great experience as always. We had reservation and our table was ready on time. Our server was very good and made sure everything was good throughout our time there. Can’t wait to return
Food and service was excellent. Right downtown on the water....
Overall I have to say everything was awesome, I called ahead and ask John for a table that wouldn’t be in a busy and noisy area, he gave me table 22 and it was perfect. I find the price a bit high for dinner for my hubby and I was 235.00 plus tip...3 course meal with 2 glasses of wine each. I remember going to the keg and dinner for two was 130.00 lol didn’t seem that long ago!
David was an outstanding server and took care of our every need. The hostess and bar staff were also very accommodating. Most of us has our steaks Chicago style and they were cooked to perfection. It always a great experience when a service orientated business puts the customer first/
We apologize for being slightly loud since we were celebrating a retirement.
The meal was pretty good but once we were seated and ordered, our mains took over an hour. The crab cakes were a bit disappointing but the service was great.
I've never had a bad meal at the Keg. Service is always excellent. Only "complaint" is noise level but it was a busy Saturday night so no big deal!
Was a great meal from start to finish.
Was great except they didn’t have my cut of steak, but great otherwise. Should serve steak sauce with steak esp since the keg has its own brand of sauce. Shouldn’t have to ask for it. Overall a nice supper.
Enjoyed the evening! The free mocha pie was a bonus. The server was attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious. All in all a wonderful evening.
