We had an outstanding meal. Our server/sommelier, Alana was the best.
Excellent food, wine list, and style. Highly recommended!
Always the best wine and food experience. And I still haven't gotten into the famous cocktails!
Spectacular in every way. Having a small plates menu meant we got to try a lot of things and we loved every single dish. It is hard to single out particular ones because they were all so good... but chicken sandwich and xi'an noodles were highlights. An INCREDIBLE wine list backed up with expert knowledge, and such great service. Wish we lived closer!!
Thanks for an amazing brunch! It was our first visit and we’ll definitely be back. Our server was welcoming and helpful. The TOC breakfast biscuit with basil aoili was delicious and the omelet made us recall our trip to France.
Decided to eat here on a whim and was very happy with the experience. The highlights were the cocktails (invented in house by Lindsay), the wine list, and the opportunity to talk wine with Alana (Som and manager). We asked for Alana for recommendations on the wine based on our food choices and were delighted with the results. The food was good, the snow crab dish was both beautiful and delicious. Next time I would ask for recommendations on the food selection as well as the wine to get a better balance. Cosy, relaxed and hip vibe. Overall, a lovely experience.
Great meal, loved the music and the atmosphere. The key lime pie is out of this world. The maple miso cauliflower was exceptional. Would highly recommend drinking their Caesar, too! Will definitely be returning.
Great menu. Varied with some interesting choices to keep you coming back. The wine and cocktail knowledge is second to none. Great place for a date or to hang out.
Food was excellent.
Wait staff was pleasant, rather reserved,
As always, incredible time. Fave restaurant in Halifax by far.
Food was tasty, drinks were even tastier and service was outstanding. Nice ambiance, a great place for a date or a celebratory evening.
Excellent as always. Ostrich Club never disappoints.
It was one of the best meals out in a long time. The quality and service were fabulous. We felt really cared for as a member of our party had a food allergy. This was carefully attended to and all recommendations were terrific. Will definitely come back!
While the ambiance and service was great, the value of the food and drink was not there. You can get much better cocktails and food in the city for a better price.
Unfortunately didn't have the best service and food was overpriced.
Had a good time. Food choices are limited, which was fine. when we come back again it would be nice to have different choices, which they might do, not sure.
Wine list focussed on natural and skin contact wines, with some more traditional great ones. Small places are super high quality. Attentive and expert sommelier service.
The food was quite good. Pricey cocktails and menu compared to similar quality restaurants
An absolute delight for foodies! We tried five dishes, and honestly couldn't choose between them - we loved them all. Props to Alana for executing her vision perfectly. We will definitely return on our next visit to Halifax.
Awesome food with a good variety to please any group. Excellent cocktails and the skill to create anything you request. Amazing in wine selection and knowledge, the best!
Our group could not have been happier with our experience. Delicious food and drinks. Incredible detail and attention to stories of the wine. Will be back!
Great food....great service....great wine list....I would recommend this place.
All in all, a wonderful dining experience.
The server was so friendly, and very kind host! It was a first time for our friends to dine there and they were blown away by everything, the service, food, and ambience. Thanks so much for a great evening.
I’m going to say….this was the culinary highlight of my week in Halifax which is a bug statement for a foodie who’s been there, done that….kismet, Edna, thief….all great experiences but Ostrich wins and here’s why. Intimate space, old school bistro vibes with a twist. Colour scene and lighting, on point. $25 glass of wine from Loire on chalk board set my expectations upon entry (yes, I’m a snob). Drink menu fab! Concrete jungle (inspired by Jay Z) a chalky grey delight with black sesame, tequila, chartreuse and sea salt, garnished with tarragon (of all leaves!)… so good. Margarita gorgeous. 2 rounds of drinks later, we have devoured dozen plus oysters….divine, indulged in plenty of buttered and toasted sourdough, and ready for our entrees. Those didn’t disappoint either. The heirloom tomato sea crab salad was beyond-ps there was burrata involved! Delicate, fresh and herbed up just right. Roasted scallop fettuccine was also decadent, and the beef cheek….sumptuous. So, as satisfied we all were to call it a night, we were convinced (rather easily) to try the ‘life changing’ keylime pie. That’s a challenge that I was prepared to take having the most discerning taste for my only favorite pie….this was a slam dunk. Gorgeous. Instagram worthy (everything was). So much so that I had to take the leap and…. You guesses it! Order the $25 glass of wine. Alana sources the best wines (read her bio on their website) and this glass was from a limited import, limited run French winery. Truly the ultimate food experience was had by all. The city is lucky to have Alana and Lindsay. And I have an excuse to return here!
We had a wonderful meal! Delicious. I'd recommend the tuna, gnocchi, and cauliflower. My only comment is that I'd love to see another substantial side veggie on the menu. Although this may be silly to say, I've had my fill of kale caesar salads, and although theirs was good, the cauliflower was amazing, and another side veggie dish like that would be fantastic.
I was there for brunch recently with some relatives and the eggs Benny was warm in temp and the potatoes were actually cold. 3 of us ordered the same dish and it was the same situation. I enjoy my food hot. Waiter did not come back once food was served to ask how the food was or to check on drinks. The temp of the food was mentioned to waiter at the end, but no apology offered or anything. For the price and ambience, I expected a little more.
Except for the brown chairs (angled back, seat for 2) -- I found it to be very uncomfortable -- and the tofu being a tad too spicy, it was an excellent evening. We will return.
My wife and I were extremely disappointed with our experience at the Ostrich Club for Brunch. The look and location of the restaurant is great, the concept is sound, but the food and service were equally terrible. We ordered the seafood benedict and grilled octopus.. both were an extreme let down. The 'grilled' octopus never touched a grill, it seemed to be pressure cooked and then slapped right into a bowl with a tasteless green oil. There were two extremely small pieces of octopus (about four suction cups worth on each piece for context), braised leeks, and boiled potatoes at the bottom of the bowl. I was fairly shocked at how bland everything was. Basically a watery soup devoid of flavour with a hint of octopus. Truly disappointing. The seafood benedict was also ridiculously poorly done and the portion was just laughable. The fish cakes it sat on were the size of a two dollar coin; indeed, they were so small that the egg could not even stay up on the fish cake. The eggs were over cooked (basically hard boiled) and covered in a béarnaise sauce that completely overpowered everything on the plate. It was just covered with far too much raw ground cayenne pepper or something that destroyed your palate. It was served with a pile of wet baby lettuce not seasoned or dressed with anything. Ontop of the catastrophically poor food was the server, who literally gave us coffee and never returned until I had to flag him down for the bill. Even then, it took so long for him to bring the bill my wife walked out and they finally noticed that they should probably come over. He asked how it was at that point, I glared at him, paid, and left.
Wonderful staff and great food
I’ve been working in the industry for 15 years and this is hands down the best experience I’ve ever had! Service was exceptional, the wine selection was next level, and the flavours in each and every dish were out of this world.
If you’re only in Halifax for one day, this is the place to eat.
This might be one of the best meals I’ve had in a while. I loved the food, drinks, ambiance, decor. 10/10 all around!
It was lovely, the food was terrific, the wine list is great, and our server/sommelier really knew her stuff!! It was clear she loves the place and is proud to talk about the food and wine, which made it more fun for us!
Had a fabulous meal. Great suggestions from knowledgeable staff. We loved everything. Awesome bar and high level bartender. Delicious drinks and food. Can't wait to go back. Portion size was generous too.
As usual, the food was fantastic. Great wine list. Always need to order the cauliflower. This time, we tried the crab salad which was fabulous, the XO rice, the goat cheese gnocchi The two desserts. The pot dr creme was absolutely amazing and the Keylime pie was a piece of art. My favourite warm drink is the turmeric ginger tea and I make sure I get that every time I go.
Just okay for taste.
We were told by server at the start that 2 diners should order 4-5 "small plates" from their menu. We ordered 4 thinking they were apps. They are very small plates and in fairness 6 plates would be the equivalent of two mains at most restaurants. Nonetheless, I left hungry.
Great wine, enthusiastic sommelier and great, eclectic food!
Opening up after lockdown, the Ostrich Club is going beyond itself to revive eating out up on "the plateau". With Lachlan Culjak helming the kitchen and Alana Steele at the front of house, the place is hot. One of, if not the top wine list in the city, especially if you want to drink something you've never had before. A great cocktail program, and a varied array of food from cuisines around the planet. It's July 2021. The best place to eat in this part of town by far. Other places barely survived, but it's like the Ostrich Club has been reborn. Start with the bread and house made butter. End with the Key Lime Pie.
Service, food, drinks were top notch! Highly recommend!
Great food, great service and great atmosphere as usual! House made maple sausage was top tier!
Perhaps one of my favourite spots in this city. We decided to have a cute little date in the evening here so we made our reservation and showed up at our time. From the moment we walked in, we felt the warmth and hospitality of all the staff. The food and drink were incredible, the staff knowledgeable, and the atmosphere, perfect for our date. Thank you, we cannot wait to be back.
