After years of planning and work to restore the historical building that inspired the brewery, The Publican House restaurant and tap house is opening its doors to you! The 170-year old building has been reborn using original elements wherever possible, with a modern twist to create a unique and inviting space.

With a focus on local, Chef Brad Watt brings a new spin to pub food featuring a wood fired pizza oven, an oyster bar and beer pairing options with daily specials.

The Publican House is a great spot…the beer is brewed on-site and is amazing…Henry’s Irish Ale is my favourite. Food is solid and tastes good - portions are good. A good spot for any events in downtown Peterborough.

At the beginning of our experience the dining room was almost too loud to converse. As the room turned over though, the same number of new diners were much quieter so it made for a good meal. We had two different servers, apparently we were dining through shift change. Our servers were both capable but there were markedly different one being very subdued perhaps and the other very outgoing which made for an obvious comparison. Everyone in our party of 5 was happy with their meals, all served hot and tasting delicious.

Dinner was very very good 2 had fish and chips, one the Mediterranean burger, and I had the beet risotto. Everyone enjoyed! Our server was really good too I will definitely be back

Menu well varied. Excellent, fresh smash burger, not overcooked. Happy surprise two pieces of lightly battered fish in the fish sanwich. Good selection of beers and the "home brews" were fresh, flavourful and true to form. Our sever, Christopher, was attentive, honest in his recommendations, and friendly. We had a good chat after our meal. The tables were well spaced and it was a Sunday evening, so not very noisy, so easy to converse. Great pub fare and comfortable, casual ambiance. One of the staff ran after us on the street to return eyeglasses that had been left on the table. Highly recommended on all fronts.

We arrived early. This wasn't an issue. We found ourselves being spoiled for choice on the menu. That's a good thing! The best spinach dip, excellent cuban spring rolls....kfc (cauliflower). The mains were all enjoyable. Good sized portions. 1 suggestion....an offering with chicken breast rather than all thighs. Yes, a thigh is more flavourful but it tends to be a little more greasy. Not to everyone's pallet. Will definitely return.

Service was friendly and prompt. Restaurant was clean. Ambience was fine. Caesar salad was very tasty, and the drinks were good... Our only complaint was with our mains; we each ordered a pizza as we noticed the beautiful looking pizza oven. Three of the four pizzas were quite burnt, very dry, mostly bread with sparse toppings. Basically once you ate the center, the rest, about 60% was leftover burnt, dry, inedible crust. The 4th pizza, which was pepperoni and was not an incinerated disc was "ok" tasting. They have a beautiful pizza oven and the opportunity to delight with some killer pizza, I hope they figure it out. Maybe we were just unlucky. Thanks for the great salad and prompt friendly service though.

Four of us had great meals we were all very happy with the meals and the service. The restaurant was very loud but it was right at lunch time. It was not my first time there but it was the other three and they all said they would definitely come back.

Hi there, we dined last evening after he Folk Festival, the restaurant was not very busy at all? Kind of felt like our server was just going through the motions and just wanted to close down. It was 7:30 when we arrived. 3 tables on the patio and maybe 1 inside? Had to get up a couple of times to ask for things at the bar. Food was fine, the Nicoise salad was good but smothered in dressing, should have asked for the dressing on the side I guess. We are from Toronto and are foodies, so we love to check out the local restaurants when we do smaller town visits. Don't have the expectations of fine tuned machine running on all cylinders 100% of the time, but felt a little like we were imposing and everyone just wanted to go home on a Sunday evening. For us it is a blessing to get out of the big Smoke and breath a little bit, we so look forward to it. I would recommend it, but with a couple of caveats. Thank you.

My shrimp tacos were good, but two of our party ordered butter chicken and were disappointed with the small amount of chicken and lack of flavour. When we first started going to Publican House a couple of years ago, there seemed to be more variety and better food. It's still a lovely spot to sit on the patio and have a drink and an appy.
