The unprepossessing exterior hides an exquisite reward- an excellently prepared meal. This was barely offset by the high noise level, however, we ate early, so the rising hubbub was endurable. Chef Luciano Cibelli personally inquired as to our satisfaction with his creation, a lost practice. We plan to return and definately recommend it.
Great place to enjoy a night out. Chef Luciano greeted us with a warm welcome and was very helpful with selections on the menu for food and wine. Will definitely be going back!
Simply disappointing food experience. Arugula salad was very salty and the evening special, porcini ravioli, was totally bland. Place was busy and has a good vibe. Tables around us had what looked like better/possibly more tasty starters and entrees. Unfortunately- we left feeling slightly underwhelmed
Hands-down one of the best dinners I’ve ever had. The swordfish and Beef Wellington were perfect!
Great food and drink and great service. Great place for small groups.
The Brie was amazing. Truly unique and delicious, like a dessert. The salads were wonderful.
Great food and awesome service.
Our waitress recommended to get a daily special. Very glad with recommendation as the bass was perfect, my wife with Spinach ravioli which I got a bite, very good.
Excellent in every manner. Plus great singer/saxophone player!
Lived too close for too long and this was our first time. We plan on making up for that mistake, it was that good.
Excellent! Luciano Cibelli, the owner/chef, was very welcoming and checked in on us. We had the arugula salad, the Seafood Fettucine, and the Lamb Shank. Everything was excellent, but the lamb was exquisite. The cocktails were nice. Fancy That was my girlfriend’s favorite. Blue Smoke was creative.
Beef Wellington was delicious as usual and the Banana Cream Pie was Awesome as I remembered, best dessert ever. Definitely will be back again for the same order everytime. Also the chef came to our table which was very nice.
We had a great meal. Wonderful risotto, seabass and lamb shank.
It was our first time at this restaurant. We had an excellent experience. We were sat at a great window seat and the chef came over to introduce himself and the food was excellent. We especially liked the lamb shank. It was very tender and the risotto was wonderful.
My husband and I dined there last night. We sat outside since it was a lovely evening. Our food was very good. I ordered the chicken Parmesan which was a huge portion. Had I known how big it was, my husband and I could have shared it. My husband ordered the lasagna which was excellent. We started with the kale Caesar salad which was also delicious and not over dressed. The chef came by and introduced himself and briefly went over the evenings specials and the menu. It was really nice to meet him and see who created our food. We would definitely recommend this establishment
Chef Luciano and his staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable, you feel like family. And the food is superb, the best ingredients and impeccable execution. I recommend you go with the people you love most, and share from the wonderful menu italian style.
The Red Door is a cozy little place to have a romantic dinner. The menu has a variety of foods for every pallet. Can't wait to go back.
Phenomenal meal coupled with phenomenal service. Our waiter was wonderful and the head chef came to speak with us several times. Beef Wellington was divine.
We have been dining regularly at The Red Door for over a year now - for date nights, dinner with friends, occasions to celebrate, or just because - and every single time it is a wonderful experience! The food is amazing, especially the beets & burrata and the specials that Chef Luciano creates. The service is impeccable too - the servers are friendly, helpful and also happy to make recommendations. We love that the Chef comes out to chat with each guest about their meal - a wonderful, personal touch! Can’t speak highly enough about The Red Door!
As usual, wonderful dining experience!
The Red Door is a great neighborhood spot and the food is outstanding. This visit was our first visit back since the pandemic, we did take out at the Red Door while Covid was hot and heavy. Our take out experience was just as wonderful as our dine in experience. If I had to pick one item on the menu that I love I would say they have the best risotto. The dine in experience is wonderful, the service is awesome and super friendly. This is definitely a restaurant that wants you to have a great experience.
The service was outstanding and I enjoy a restaurant where the owner/chef comes by to see how the meal is.
The dishes are creative, interesting and good!
We absolutely loved every bit of our experience! Our waiter was amazing, the food was incredible, and overall ambiance was amazing! The chef/owner even came out to introduce himself and welcome us! We are definitely planning to come back!
Best beef Wellington ever. Freshly baked bread everyday, great atmosphere
Great food and good service. Terrific neighborhood vibe.
As always, an amazing experience. Everyone was happy!
Great food! Appetizers were terrific - The beet & burrata and the butternut Brie were amazing. Had the shaved brussels salad - it would be better as a veggie side - a little heavy as a salad. Our friends had the arugula salad & raved about it. Entrees were great! Had the lamb shank - fabulous!
Never disappointed! Staff and food was excellent!
The food was phenomenal I got the beef Wellington and my friend got a special recommended by the chef, which not only did he come out to personally greet us, but also to check in on how the food was tasting. The dinks were good as well. Overall a good meal and a great place to eat.
Food was good, but the outdoor seating was pretty awful. You’re seated along the sidewalk of a busy street so people walk by frequently and loud sirens pass in the street. It ruins what could be pleasant ambience. We had pretty awful table service as well. No refills on the 4 oz glass of water we were given, we were never given an opportunity to request another drink and our waiter took a smoke break after dropping off our dessert menu. Rather than waiting for him to return we just got our bill from the bar and left. Overall a really disappointing experience.
We had an outstanding meal in a vibrant, fun atmosphere. My husband had a wonderful birthday dinner; we absolutely loved The Red Door. We brought our 8 and 10 year old kids and the server was so welcoming and accommodating to the kids. Excellent experience!
This was our first visit however it won’t be our last! The food is amazing and the service is excellent. Love how the chef comes to each table for a visit.
Wife’s birthday. Fantastic food. Chef came and spoke to us identifying us as first time customers and was very engaging and gracious. Great service all around. Will definitely return.
The banana cream pie is outstanding! Definitely worth saving room for desert.
Everything was fantastic! Thank you
Loved all the food and the ambiance was fantastic! Owner/Chef came out to meet us and made for a really personable dining experience. Will definitely be back!
We went for the Beef Wellington and were not disappointed. We will definitely return to try other more Italian dishes on the menu.
Good food and great staff. Try the Beef Wellington it’s spot on
Staying in San Diego a few days and went for dinner to the Red Door. What a little gem. Food was excellent, service was excellent without being intrusive. One of us had scallops the other beef Wellington, both were delicious. Well done a very pleasant evening.
Honestly we were disappointed with our meal and experience at The RedDoor. The food was mediocre and the outside seating is just ok. I really wanted to like this place because I like the concept. The food just doesn't deliver. The dessert (cheesecake and the appetizer (beets and burrata) were the only saving grace.
