The Root Cellar
Our mission is to change the food system that affects all of us. We believe that food is political, that the choices we make about food -- what we choose to eat and whom we choose to support by doing so -- resonate through our community, economy, and planet. At the foundation of this project is a commitment to invigorating our community, discovering the plenitude of our local foodshed, supporting sustainable agricultural practices, and working cooperatively.
The menu was creative and interesting while still being very accessible. We enjoyed everything that we tried. The servers were friendly and helpful. I specifically appreciated the locally focused wine and spirits list.
They have a variety of foods - well presented - glass of wine expensive
Cool place close to downtown with lots of local and vegan options. Had the vegan enchilada and my husband had the bison burger....very delicious.
Lovely lunch with my friend. Food was excellent as always. Server was kind and efficient. Would be nicer if it wasn’t in such a dumpy area of town.
Wonderful restaurant, mainly burgers, salads and pizzas but wonderful organic concept!
Love the food. Have been here a few times now and it never disappoints. Generous serving sizes for the price. Will continue to go.
I love both the regular menu items at the Root Cellar (ex. Truffle fries or poutine with miso gravy) as well as the ever changing seasonal dishes so there is always something new to try. The last 2 times I've been however we have been seated at a table that was pretty much on top of the table beside us, we might as well have shuffled over a foot and had dinner with the couple trying to have their own romantic dinner. Lol Seems you are punished for not having more than 2 people attend. Overall though, this place rocks and I would definitely recommend it!
Was sad to find the menu trimmed back to salads, pizza and burgers (miss the risotto) - but the burger I had was fabulous.
Authentic. Cozy. Warming experience on a winter's eve.
This place is wonderful because it's all local food. They serve things like "local water buffalo burgers"
I had a really good experience but we were 10 mins late for our reservation; it was not super super busy and the waitress told us "oh we cleared your table because we did not think you would be coming....we will set it up again" - we were made to feel kind of guilty for being 10 mins late. That was unpleasant. But, otherwise - amazing food and ambience!
Love the concept. Love the food. Love the atmosphere.
Excellent decaf almond milk latte for dessert! Kale salad had no bitterness at all!!
We had a great visit to the Root Cellar! We were celebrating a birthday and they provided our birthday guest with the most delicious birthday treat at the end of her meal! She was delighted, so thank you! Highly recommended!
Excellent food and service!
It does get too noisy when busy - food & service great
Awesome pre-show dinner! 5 stars, service, food, atmosphere.....looking forward to frequent visits to this fantastic restaurant.
Loved our server and the sweet potato chips and three dips
Wonderful place to have lunch or dinner with a friend. Delicious food and neighbourhood atmosphere.
We had dinner prior to a concert and did not allow enough time in making the reservation. We spoke with the staff and they bent over backwards to accommodate us with time to spare. Great food and the staff were outstanding. We will definitely be back.
Room was too packed. Every time a server passed our table, which was frequently, my chair was bumped into. There was nowhere to move to get out of the way. I was in a hurry to get out of there!
Food was tasty, delicious. Great place to eat before a show . We would definitely go back.
Fantastic, as usual, and service was exceptional. Love this place !
First time for the wonderful, quaint restaurant. We really enjoyed the food, ambience and service. We will definitely come again soon.
I usually go to the Root Cellar for dinner around 6pm and have the veggie burger with a poutine and it has been tasty in the past. However, I hadn't been in a while and was looking forward to our dinner. My last reservation was for 845pm and we were a party of 5. They sat us at two small round tables which made us feel awkward so we asked to move to another table that could seat us comfortably and we were advised that the dining area was closed, only the bar side was open. So we chose to squish around a small round table. The music was pretty loud which made it difficult to have a conversation. The maple chai latte was delicious but the food was not. My sister and I ordered the veggie burger, a poutine and the fungi pizza. The veggie patty was delicious in flavour but it completely fell apart, the bun (which was different from before) was hard as a rock and we had to really sink our teeth into it and rip it apart. Our other friend said she had yet to see someone eat the veggie burger with ease, because everyone she has seen try to eat it has struggled with how hard the bun is to how soft the patty is.
The poutine was pretty good but they went really heavy on the miso for the miso gravy which made it super salty.
Last but not least, the fungi pizza was sooo dry and plain. I do not recommend this pizza. It tasted like dry sourdough pizza topped with arugula and no sauce or anything else. There were very few mushrooms and I don't know where the sauce was. I ended up taking 3/4 of it home so I could season it properly and enjoy it.
The kale caesar salad was delicious!!
Wonderful dining experience. Everyone loved their food and drink. Will most definitely go back again.
This was my 5th time dining at the Roor Cellar, and every time I am impressed. Awesome food, great vibes, wonderful service. Definitely on my list if I am asked for unique recommendations in London. Love the map showing where all ingredients are sourced and the art from local artists! Really makes this a cultural hub as well as an awesome dining experience!
It’s always good food and service
I've been twice, and as a celiac I am always happy when I find somewhere that is conscious of gluten sensitivity. The food was unbelievable!! Especially on our second visit. I would recommend this place to anyone. They even had a Gluten-Free beer on the menu.
The veggie burger is like mushie beans with no chew to it. And that night they ran out of burger buns so it was served on two slices of really boring sliced bread. It was early Friday evening- how does this happen??! Everything else was fantastic - especially the beer, ambiance and the service outstanding. I’ve been here several times now and frankly the food always disappoints.
we love this resturaunt! they have some good vegan options. I had the veggie burger it was good but the bean burger was a little mushy. the food was so good that didnt matter too much.
The food was excellent but the only problem was they were out of chicken .
Went to the Root Cellar on Tuesday night this week. Service was excellent and meals were delicious! Will be back soon.
Great food. Great service. The pork belly was delicious. We will be back!
The service was great, the food was also very good. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is because it was under seasoned and my wife’s Tofu was over cooked and dry. She did not eat it. Food was fresh portion size was perfect. Hopefully the cook just had an off day, I will go again.
Really good experience at The root cellar. People are amazingly kind and smiling. Decoration is beautiful.
The organic salads are huuuge and delicious, healthy and well presented. I can't find any word for the fries... Except absolutely delicious too.
You should try the smoothies as well. OMG I loved everything at this place.
My first visit and I was impressed. The food was of excellent quality and the ambiance was great!
So unique, great atmosphere. Incredibly friendly service. Food was fantastic.
Something for everyone. Increadible vegan dining and organic/sustainable. Would recommend to anyone.
Food was very, very good and reliable! Even the veggies taste better here. Thanks you.
