The Savoy Brasserie
The waiter I had on March 2 at 7:30 was super nice & very outgoing!! The food was amazing & the drinks were good!!
Gréât service and very friendly staff
Enjoyed my evening, food was great, service a little slow, but a good time with friends.
Service was slow. Food was not hot. Soup didn’t come, and when it finally did it wasn’t hot
Great service and food. It's great to be able to make a reservation for brunch.
I was so excited based on some good reviews and the overall ambiance in photos but the food and service was just terrible. Menu items looked good but they were just awful. Even things that seem like solid bets, like duck poutine, burger, and French onion soup were bad. They tasted like cafeteria food. Wine selection was pretty awful too. I’ve never written a bad review before but this was such a disappointment.
I was told to go here because of their valentine's day special. Got there on time for my reservation and we didn't get our table until 20 minutes later. Once at the table, our server didn't come see us for 15 minutes. We were told that multiple items on the preset menu were no longer available, limiting us to very few options. My date ordered a glass of wine and got WATER in a wine glass. After another 15 minutes without food we left. The only good thing about my experience was that I got 2 free drinks. Would never recommend this place.
Unfortunately we couldn’t experience the restaurant food. Sure we reserved on Valentine’s Day. Had a reservation for 8:15. Was told to wait at the bar, no one offered to serve drinks. Finally got our table at 8:35, waited 15minutes and still no server came around to even take drink orders. Truly disappointing, tables beside us didn’t seem to be enjoying the slow/lack of service either.
The 4 course menu misled us on the main course that we ordered. Instead of shrimp, scallop, we got chicken instead.
The food was good at a reasonable price but the service blew us away. She was a very keen and considerate server.
Our New Years Day brunch at The Savoy was a genuine treat, and a fine way to celebrate the first day of 2020. Thank you!
Excellent servers! Very attentive to our table and the needs of the kids etc! Also very kind when our kids were taking up half the restaurant. :) Thanks!
Visited Savoy on Dec 23 for lunch. The festive decor alone made the visit worth while. We were a party of 4 & everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The menu is small but there are enough options to appeal to all including the vegetarian in our group!
Holiday decorations were fun! Service was friendly but our server seemed overwhelmed (pre-holiday rush). Food was good and great portion sizes. Would go again!
I would still recommend Savoy even though I didn’t have the greatest experience. Service was extremely slow, we waited 15-20 mins for menus. Food was good and Christmas ambiance was festive.
Parfait petit restaurant, ambiance décontractée et décor inspirant. La localisation de l'établissement est parfaite,et son service est impeccable. Rien de tel pour faire oublier la froideur des hivers d'Ottawa.
Perfect small restaurant and relaxing ambiance in an inspired decor. The location of the establishment is perfect, and the service is impeccable. Nothing like it to make you forget the cold winters of Ottawa.
We made a rsvp in advance but were seated right at the door, even though the back of the restaurant was empty. It was disruptive and cold. We wore our scarves during the meal.
The cocktails were disappointing and there were ongoing mix-ups with the drink orders.
They were missing 30% of their entree dinner menu; even though it was only 7 pm on a Saturday evening. The steaks were tough and the pepper sauce didn't taste like pepper and had 2 peppercorns for the entire steak. The chicken was dry and tasted like it had been reheated.
We had been there before and enjoyed ourselves, but this time was disappointing.
Wonderful ambiance and we had a terrific server who seemed to have quite a number of tables to handle but she was great. Food was so so. Reduced menu made it difficult. French onion soup was tasty but had very little cheese and the bread on top was not toasted. Lamb shank was in a very simple gravy that could have been more interesting. The urinals in the mens washroom had no running water so the washroom stunk. It is certainly not as good as it was when I was last there over a year ago.
Best coq-au-vin I've had in a while with a great European ambience and friendly and attentive service. Overall a great experience.
Understaffed and unpleasant.
We made a reservation but that didn't seem to matter; the bartender yelled at us to just sit anywhere. A family had taken over two tables and carried on a very loud conversation while two children ran uncontrolled around the restaurant.
We waited there 15 minutes and the only contact with a server was when they brought drinks to our table by mistake but quickly removed them as they realized their error.
We were fed up and left and nobody tried to stop us or apologize and the people at the neighbouring tables seem to be wishing they had done the same as well.
Won't be going back. Instead we crossed the street to Gezellig and had a 5-star experience.
The service was slow. We asked for water along with our alcoholic beverages and never did get the water. The food was mediocre. Even a burger was reported as just okay. My dinner did not come with the veggies and bread that was part of the dish, so I had to ask for them. One of my dinner companions had the steak. It looked like it came from a substandard diner- the accompanying salad was a bit of iceberg lettuce and a few slices of tomatoes-no dressing. Had to ask for dressing twice. The waitress was very apologetic and understanding of our concerns- all were addressed at the end of our meal. I think they were short staffed that night. Could be it was an off night for them, but it was disappointing nevertheless. The prices did not reflect the quality of the food. Very pricey for the quality.
I have been many times and I used to like the Savoy. It is going downhill. The last three meals I’ve had there have been sub-par. The decor is great, it should be a great restaurant. It is not. Your new front of house host is good. Food is not good any more.
Such a great location but the menu choice leaves a lot to be desired. The tacos during the fuse festival was beyond edible. We have been coming to the restaurant from the time it started but the menu leaved a lot to be desired. Such a great location so much potential ! Good luck guys.
The place was cute, alcool was just ok! Ordered the calamari ceviche and i felt like it wasn't so fresh so i returned it and lost my appetite.
Menu. Bit sparse, but the moulds Nd calms very tasty.
Meal one was great - chicken and fries. Meal 2 (essentially potato pie) was sub-par - undercooked, lacked any flavour. Server immediately eliminated meal 2 from the bill upon hearing our evaluation - server asked how the meals were. Service is very good but short staffed. Very friendly, highly competent.
There has been a notable decline in quality and service over the past 6 months or so which is too bad since we love the place.
I made a reservation and it was closed when we arrived. Then 2 days later I tried to walk in but was closed again.
Bright, clean and spacious restaurant, great food and drinks, very reasonably priced with fantastic service. To my view, Savoy Brasserie is one of the most underrated restaurant in Ottawa and possibly one of the city's best kept secret. It has been around for a while and people seemed to have forgotten about it.
Went for lunch. Very good friendly service as always. The Tarte Savoy was delicious however it would have been great for this plate to be served with a small green salad as the portion was small even for lunch. Would definitely go back.
The server was excellent and food was really great!
Excellent food for a classic lunch. New menu with a French cafe flair but stuck with traditional wrap option which was fantastic. The details made it excellent. Waiter was very friendly and prompt. Lovely place for lunch with friends in the heart of westboro village.
We were four for dinner on a Thursday evening. Although the restaurant was not busy, we were seated at a table that had comfortable seating for about 3 1/2, while a long row of full size tables remained empty. This was not a huge bother, just unusual. The menu offers small, medium and large plates in a limited number, which I will come back to. Between us we ordered at least one of each portion size, and we all enjoyed everything to the point of sharing tastes. Service on this slow night was superb.
Regarding the menu, virtually everyone would find things that they will enjoy. However, there may be a limit to return visits if the menu isn’t expanded just a bit, or doesn’t change from time to time.
Food took a bit too long but was worth the wait. The oysters rockafella was amazing!!! Only downside was the Menu and drink options...were slim. The dishes presented well and the atmosphere was nice. Great decor. Friendly service. :)
Lovely European style brasserie. Staff was very pleasant and attentive. The menu was limited but delivered big on quality food. The cocktails were meticulously prepared and so good. Everything we ordered was delicious, tasteful and well presented. We hope that the new management will be consistent with their food and service which is what patrons look for. We have enjoyed going to this restaurant three times recently and were happy to have an occasion to share this find with our friends.
Loved it. I could eat the vegetarian meal again and again. I almost had 2
Love your restaurant but I do find it very noisy. Otherwise it's a very good restaurant with excellent service.
I invited a friend for lunch to celebrate her birthday as indicated on my reservation. I was disappointed in your restaurant for the following reasons. I reviewed your online menu for lunch which indicated a nice variety. However, there was only a limited menu (6 items) avaialble. This should be posted on line....misleading. Secondly, the price of your wine is too expensive...$17 a 5 oz glass ....typically $9-12 is a average price unless the wine is very exceptional which I do t think your selection was. Lastly, I was asked the reason for my visit when making my reservation and indicated a birthday lunch. I think the restaurant could have offered a slice of cake to the guest of honour. Othewise why did you ask?
I hope my review will encourage you to consider some of my concerns.
If it were socially acceptable to lick the plate, I might have considered it! Great restaurant. Amazing food.
We went to the Savoy with great expectations and a hankering for confit de canard, having seen it on the menu online. Sadly, the confit was no longer in the menu as the management had changed just 3 weeks before our visit and for some reason I can't begin to fathom, they don't have it.
We had the burger (nicely charred, soggy bun, indifferent tomato and lettuce) and fries (cold - hint: shoestring fries get cold and soggy faster. And really? Everything is "homemade from scratch"? They didn't seem that way to me. And really? How long does it take to cut up some nice fresh potato wedges, nuke 'em for 10 minutes & then throw 'em under the broiler for 3 minutes to finish them? Exactly 13 minutes. Pre-nuke them and it's 3 minutes. BTW, please don't pre-salt them. Use some imagination. A nice Provençal seasoning mix. Rosemary and garlic. Anything but salt.). Also had the Arctic char (perfectly cooked) served in a bowl on top of baby potatoes (perfect) and green beans (crunchy enough but soggy and tasteless - either old or kept under a heat lamp for too long) (strange presentation if you ask me, and awkward to eat), and we shared a "salad," 6 chunks each of tasteless cucumber and tomato (hint: HERE'S where you pre-salt, to bring out what little flavour there is in vegetables at this time of year), plopped on top of some delightful goat cheese with an artless drizzle of balsamic, most of which, very sadly, got absorbed into the wooden board it was served on. So frustrating!
To top it off, the aesthetic is pseudo-French café. Iconic black-and-white tiles, high ceilings, beautiful...with none of the warmth and texture that makes Parisian cafés so cozy. The atmosphere is noisy and industrial. You need more fabric to absorb the sound. Hang some tapestries on the cold white tile walls. Acoustic ceiling. Etc.
The best thing about the meal was the outstanding service! Thank you MARSHALL!
The place has great potential but needs some fine-tuning.
