Although named for the boats used to catch lobster, Smack Shack was launched as a food truck in 2010 serving lobster rolls from a land-locked downtown Minneapolis parking lot. Owner Josh Thoma had a great recipe and a belief that appetite for fresh lobster in the Twin Cities was as strong as any coastal city.

Smack Shack is committed to serving sustainable seafood and is a current partner in the Minnesota Zoo’s Fish Smart program. Sustainable seafood is wild caught or farm raised seafood that has established practices to ensure the long term growth and thriving populations of seafood with limited harm to the environment.

This was our first time coming and we viewed the menu before coming to reservation. We were bummed to see that on the weekends they only serve their brunch menu items until 3p. We were set on a completely different menu so that was annoying. It’s Sunday at 1:30 lol I don’t want eggs. Either way the food was decent.

Some of the best seafood and lobster rolls you can get in Minnesota. The atmosphere is very nice while still not over the top fancy, which is quite nice for a casual dinner with a large group of family or friends. Highly recommend.

The food was outstanding, I had the stuffed salmon and it was to die for. My husband had the blackened salmon and it was delicious as well. The lobster bisque was also fabulous.

Perfect night out for casual but a little extra. Very nice menu selection and cocktail, beer, wine and non alcohol choices. The dessert menu was so good! Highly recommend!

We were on our way to a show…service was a bit slower than usual. Our waiter forgot a lot of things and just seemed stretched pretty thin. Food also took longer to come out than usual. It’s not what we normally experience

Delicious food. Service was good! First time sitting upstairs. It was warmer and not as loud as downstairs. Food was delicious. More spendy, but we were expecting it! Highly recommend the Brussels and mushrooms sides! Yum! We also enjoyed the smack tower!

Crab legs were large and wonderful-best value compared to other seafood restaurants. Food was hot and tasty. Again good value. Prices are mid-range to high, but excellent portions ad very good quality. Some other seafood restaurants are very overpriced for similar quality—just paying for the name and ambiance. Cheaper seafood places you get what you pay for as far as quality.

We had a wonderful meal once again at this great restaurant. I had the Smack Shack Original Lobster Roll, which comes with Cajun fries. This is by far the best lobster roll this East Coaster has had! My husband isn’t a fish guy, so he had the Fried Chicken dinner, which he said was amazing!

The food and service were good. Overall the experience was good. We did feel pressured to get out fast which was a negative. Our apps and main came at the same time as well - feeling rushed did cut into the dining experience.

Nice vibe, very friendly waiter. Sat in mezzanine area of restaurant but did not like the seclusion as opposed to being on the main floor-restaurant seating area. Overall, very pleasant experience and be happy to go back!

Have been a fan of smack shack for a while. Continue to always be impressed every time I visit. Food was excellent as always. Tried the special mushroom and peppercorn lobster roll and loved it. Nice flavors that I haven’t seen done elsewhere. My parents who don’t venture out much also really enjoyed their meals as well. Service was great and was patient with my parents which was so nice. Overall another outstanding visit and can’t wait to dine again when I’m back in town.

I have eaten at the Smack Shack many times. I always order the king size Lobster Roll. I ordered the king size roll again, but it looked like the regular roll. I brought this up to the waiter and he said that it was the king size. My whole family agreed that it was not the king size. I let it slide this time, but I paid an extra $12 for the king size. Otherwise, the food was good as usual.

I took one of my admin from work there, who is such a superstar, and we had a five star experience at a very chill location. Everything about the night was great, including the food and the service. Drinks were also superb!

I was pleased with the meal. But the server definitely could have at least mentioned what the market price was on the king crab. Our meal for two people was $361 before we left our $75 tip. I was absolutely shocked when I saw the price of our bill. Aside from that super shocking surprise. Food and service was pretty good.

Service was great and food was good. However, we felt the food was overpriced. The price of the lobster guacamole was more expensive than some of the sides and starters we’ve gotten at quality steakhouses. It would be fine if the size of the lobster guac was larger, but you barely get any chips and maybe only 2 tiny lobster pieces on top of the guac.
