Had an amazing lunch at the Stable House last Friday! Everything was perfect. The server was very knowledgable and lovely to chat with and the food was amazing!! We can't wait to come back for dinner!
Awesome food, quaint and good ambience.
Usually great, this last visit was lacking. Service was not very good, kitchen was slow, and server was more focused on folding napkins and polishing glasses than the tables being served. The food was very good, however the menu needs a refresh.
I had a lovely Sunday brunch
they run happy hour all day here on sundays too, which is nice
if you haven't had the croque madame, get on it
Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Attentive but not intrusive. Great food & bubbles, good beginning to a night out at the theater. We’ll definitely be back.
Our server, Cher, was fantastic. Every dish was perfect. Can't wait to come back! Sarah
Came here for Father's Day. Although the restaurant was pretty, was disappointed with my Eggs Benny. The flavours didn't work well together, the coffee was weak, and the service was slow. Wouldn't recommend.
Amazing food, but the service was very poor and they weren’t busy. Took over 20 minutes to get our Americano’s. Then had to ask for our bill 25 minutes after finishing.
Super service, nice food, beer and wine. I found it noisy even though they have a fantastic cork wall!
Ate before show at the Stanley. Great service. clean and open in style. Short menu, small, medium and large plates. Good choices. We had a meat and cheese plater ($18) and good choices from chief. Nicely presented. I was recommended the chick pea gnocchi - and while nicely presented, found it a bit heavy. My wife had the pasta with bacon and cheese, it was great. Chocolate mousse dessert was small but stunning. Strawberry shortcake was a bit dry - but local strawberries. Great and very attentive service. Would go back again. Got a bit noisy with the space was full not we could still hear each other. Good wine list and the server was very knowledgeable and helpful
Our first time here and we really enjoyed it. The wine was a bit expensive but excellent choices and quality. My tomato soup was the way it should be - smooth, flavourful with subtle seasoning. My partner's reubin was unlike any he had eaten before, the meat tender and tasty with a generous melting of cheese on top. We will go back.
Really great friendly, knowledgeable waitress. Good food, nice relaxed atmosphere.
The place is nice, but the service wasn't good. I asked the waitress to explain the wine flight and what wines they were and she didn't know, the wines were also an acquired taste, very bitter and fruity which isn't mine or my friends taste, which I told the waitress after and she agreed they're not your typical wines. You would expect for $28 for a flight you've have some heads up prior to them being delivered. Service generally was slow and unknowledgeable.
We really like this restaurant . Staff is friendly, and the food is very good. I like that it is quiet and you can actually have a conversation with the people you are having lunch, or dinner with
A nice dinner before a show at the Stanley theatre
We went here for a quiet dinner one Wednesday evening. Our server was horrible. Rushed, stressed and made us feel like she had other places to be. The restaurant was maybe half full while we were there. The food was fantastic, I just wish the service had been better.
My girlfriend and I came into the restaraunt. Our table wasn’t ready when we got there. Waited for 5 minutes. Which is fine. Say down, a waitress didn’t come over for 10 minutes. When she came, she dropped off one menu for the both of us. She didn’t come back after that. We saw her standing behind the bar and chatting the bar people. We waited for 10 more minutes and left. She didn’t even notice us as we were walking out the door, past the bar. Terrible place to spend a special night with someone special.
This is my third visit to Stable House Bistro. I enjoyed a birthday lunch with a friend last year and have since been back for dinner with friends. It is a great venue for a pre-theatre meal. The menu allows for sharing and has small and mid-size plates plus cheese and meat boards. We have had excellent, friendly and helpful service on each visit. Good wine and beer choices. A lovely, cozy, casual dining spot, with history.
Definitely will be back.
Food was decent but not spectacular...We had the Parisian gnocchi w/ duck leg, the pork belly, and the arctic char tartar, with the duck leg the best of the three. The pork belly needs a tad more seasoning and the arctic char needed to be served at a colder temp.
Overall, the value for money is lacking and it may be due to our misunderstanding of the menu. With their "small, medium, large" categories for their dishes, I had expected "large" plates to be entrees, but they were a mere few bites each. The pork belly I had for $24 had at most 3-4 oz worth of pork belly + pulled pork on the plate.
A delicious ,tasty lunch with a chilled rosé and excellent service. I felt as if I was in France and topped it off with an expression, just as it should be. Bravo
Nice restaurant tucked away from the main road. The hostess/ waitress was very attentive & greeted you right away. There were only 2 waitresses on duty for a Saturday evening. They took turns being both hostesses & waitresses.
Their food were quite delicious. We started with their scrumptious kale salad & chicken pate which melted in your mouth like butter. Very nice starters but it took awhile for each to come to your table. When we asked for more bread for the pate it took it took another 15 min for 3 pieces of toast to get yo your table.
I had the duck confit with gnocchi for the main course. The gnocchi was delicious. The duck would have been better served as a whole leg instead of being pulled apart into shreds.
My husband tried the pork &he enjoyed it very much.
Portions of the mains were quite small but they tasted very nice.
Casual tiny spot with sophisticated elegance
Great wine list
When we arrived, the host showed us our reserved table and we got seated in no time. We were offered water immediately.
After we ordered our food, most of our food came shortly after. However, after we finished our appetizer which is a liver pate and the knife was used for the pate and I left it on the pate plate thinking the waitress will change another knife but she kept saying this is your knife and give it back without offering a new knife. Since we share most of the appetizers and no one came to change our plates. When most of our entree arrived but missing one, we just realized the order was wrong. Would it be better to repeat the order after taking the orders to ensure it was ordered correctly. We asked to get the order put in immediately but it didn’t come for another 30 mins. When everyone has already finished and still waiting. If t really will take this long, the waitress should advise the time it is going to take or offer something else instead. Then I asked for the bill since the order still has not come, then she said it will be ready in a few mins. Offer to pack to go. And I said ok. But she brought the plate over thinking I may want a few bite first. If I do, I would have asked not to pack to go. It was a very poor experience because it could be due to lack of experience or lack or staff.
Great food and ambiance! The server with the lavender hair was both friendly and knowledgeable with the wine and food menu!
It was our first visit to the Stable House, we will return. My wife has some food issues and the server and chef went well beyond in accommodating her. The wine by the glass offerings were great and reasonably priced considering the calibre of vineyards. Our dinner and appetizers were also outstanding, great flavour, healthy and very reasonably priced again.
Husband and mine date night
we meet friends there monthly prior to events at the stanley industrial alliance theatre. we are happy with the locatuion, service and food.
An interesting and diverse menu of sharable plates. Some unique wines that you don't see on most wine lists. Great service and friendly explanations of the menu items. We shared three plates, one small, one medium and one large and it was enough food for two with a bit of room left for a shared dessert. The noise level was a bit higher than one would want for quiet conversation, but we were seated in the middle of the room at a high top table so it might be quieter in the lower seating. Prices were reasonable and the portions represented good value. We were going to the Stanley after dinner for a play; the food arrived promptly and we had lots of time with a 6:00 reservation. THe room was full shortly after we arrived so reservations are a must!
Nice cosy evening with good food!
Lots of good wine and charcuterie selections!
Love this little gem
Great elegant menu chicken liver pate with house made picked veg
Crock madame perfect
Great wine list of old world wines
Second time back. New menu as food is very seasonal. Delicious. Had an Arctic Char tartare dish which was yummy. Service was knowledgeable and friendly. Wine list is interesting. Very cozy welcoming place. Will go back again.
This is my new fav place on South Granville. Went for happy hour with friends and liked it so much I went back with another friend for brunch the day after. Avocado toast was delicious but definitely could have used a salad as it looked a bit bereft on the plate by itself. The waiter was friendly without being intrusive.
Great dining for pre-theatre. Love the small, medium, large plates menu plus board choices. Easy to share and mix the small and medium plates. Seasonal food with a touch of flair in presentation but not over the top. More than enough choics for a glass of wine.
A very European Bistro with friendly, efficient service and the Bistro reflects local history of the area.
We were four diners and three of us shared the apple pie dessert in a jar. It was delicious and if it is offered on our next visit, we all will have our own jar.
A very pleasant evening.
We had fabulous service and enjoyed our evening out, which is very rare! The food was delicious but I thought the portions were a tad small for the price -- however I would not hesitate to frequent this restaurant. Very nice atmosphere for a date or some time out with friends. Quiet enough to have a good conversation, and not be heard by those at tables nearby. We've been to this restaurant before and have enjoyed wonderful service, and delicious food each time.
The vibe here is great and the wine list is small, tight and interesting, with many options by the glass
Service is prompt and unfussy and the music they were playing - George Harrison, war on drugs - was awesome
While we like the ambiance of this pleasant neighborhood restaurant, and appreciate the price range, we were disappointed with several dishes. To top it off, we decided to try a dessert described on the menu as cheesecake, lemon curd and strawberry. In fact, the only lemon curd and strawberry on the plate were 4 small dots of each that could only be described as garnish at best. For $11 it was overpriced and misleadingly described.
Food was interesting and well displayed. Servings are more pretty than plentiful, come to enjoy but not to fill up. Best to share orders so that you get a spread of different tastes.
The music was a tad loud for an older pre-theatre crowd. I know old people always say this! But if you are managing a restaurant and 70% of your crowd is OBVIOUSLY over 65 on a Thurs night ...Turn it down! Everyone was leaning way in to hear each other, and also squinting at the Menu board and at the menus!
That being said our server was lovely, read the board out loud to us and checked on us regularly.
Great food and service
Lovely set menu. Good was outstanding as always. The wine pairings were bang on.
