The Stable House Bistro
I love, love, love Stable House. But was a bit disappointed in the mains offered yesterday, which were either pasta or cold steelhead on bread. Would have liked a warm protein. But a totally delightful restaurant in every other way and I wish there were many more like this -- so warm and intimate but not pretentious or overdone.
Great recommendations from the staff. Good timing before our play at the Stanley.
A bit pretentious and portions of food were small for the price.
My first time dining at Stable House before going to the Stanley Theatre--but will certainly will be returning. An excellent menu--new as of October 1st--and an amazing selection of wines, mostly European, but some excellent domestic ones as well. Service was warm and efficient, and easily engaged regarding the wine and dinner options.
Very professional staff with excellent knowledge of the large wine list. Food was super good and service perfect. Would definitely recommend.
Wine list and charcuterie boards were excellent; as was service. The restaurant was quite noisy, as expected for a Saturday dinner. Food was good but extremely small portions. The feature dinner consisted of five prawns and steamed vegetables and entirely lacked a grain.
Great service. Inventive food. Stealhead dish! Yum!
Although the service and ambiance was good the food was insufficient portion wise. It is important to leave a restaurant with ones hunger satisfied and not hungry. The portions are far too small for the value. It’s unfortunate because the potential is there. Carbonara is a classic Southern European dish yet in Europe they anything less than three times this portion would be embarrassing to the establishments hospitality standards. I know Vancouver is expensive but a restaurants first concern should be that their guests don’t leave hungry and wanting.
Great service. Great atmosphere. Delicious food. Croquettes yum. Will definitely be back.
Place is great but the noise level on our last visit was very unpleasant
Went here for my birthday, and I must say this was such a lovely little spot! Our server was very great, and educated us on the Charcuterie Board.. the meats and cheeses were fantastic. The rose was amazing.. and it paired so nicely with the carbonara I had.. VERY happy. Will be back :) If you haven't gone, you should go!
Had never been before and was impressed on all counts. Wqill go back as the menu had so many things yet to try!
Overall good experience. Small intimate location. Food tasty and well presented. Menu is limited but like that ingredients are locally sourced. Prices are alittle overpriced but dishes we had was delicious and innovative. Once we decided we didn't want dessert, we were not asked if we would like coffee or tea but instead our server just brought the bill and placed on the table. Felt like we were being rushed out.
Fabulous choices and the wine selection was good.
My wife and I stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening, before heading to the ferry terminal. The Bistro is pleasantly located just off south Granville. There is a patio for outdoor dining, of the type that is all too-rare in Vancouver. The restaurant is small but pleasing, with bar seating and various table configurations. The service was quite attentive. We enjoyably shared a liver pate appetizer, which was reminiscent of fois gras eaten in France. The mains, when delivered, turned out to be the wrong dish. Our servers were suitably apologetic and, 15 minutes later, we were eating the duck confit salads we had originally ordered. Drinks were good: a glass of Lambrusco, a not commonly served sparkling Italian red, and one of the very good local beers served on tap. We were pleasantly surprised when the check displayed a credit for one of the mains - a bit of customer cultivation that more establishments would do well to embrace!
The ambience, food and service were all amazing! Thoroughly enjoyed my time here. Would highly recommend, and I’ll be coming back for sure!
Highlights - charcuterie board is a must
- the halibut is fantastic
Lovely and lively place
The service was outstanding and the food was great (except the halibut was overdone)
The selection of food and wine was just enough.
I would definitely go back.
Fantastic food and staff!!!!
A fabulous neighbourhood bistro. Consistently great service, and a very well curated wine program. On this occasion, I was meeting a friend that was visiting Vancouver, and I knew we would have a great visit, with good food and unobtrusive service. Highly recommend!
I love this restaurant. The portions are just the with size and the food is excellent. They also have a great wine selection.
Love the build-your-own charcuterie boards.
Shared the halibut large dish - outstanding!
Perfect pre-theatre restaurant.
Excellent bistro in South Granville. Friendly and relaxed. Great food and reasonable prices.
Third visit - really enjoy the food. Such a great place pre-theatre. Our go-to place when in the neighbourhood.
Service levels have fallen significantly.
Don’t expect a tip on wine service if you don’t have time to serve it.
Totally excellent meal. Request that they pace courses evenly. Amazing place!
Thank you so much for the positive review. it really means a lot to us
We always enjoy dinner at Stable House! Great food and service.
Price is reasonable . Quality of food is good. Worth the value
Great selection of wines. Only ordered snack food to go with the wine. Knowledgable servers.
Portions were small for what you pay but the quality was excellent
Great spot for share plates and great wine options ( and good craft brew selection). Wine by the class selection is well thought out and bountiful!! We really enjoyed the three share plates we ordered and our servers were top notch!
Great service , friendly staff, excellent food, relaxing atmosphere
The mains were slow to come, but they were delicious.
Great food but they need more staff, our waitress was run off her feet
It was my first time visiting The Stable House Bistro even though I've lived in Vancouver 20 years and I should have gone years ago. It was a great experience and I'd go back if I wasn't moving across the country.
I went with a friend for Easter Friday lunch and it was quiet. The service was impeccable, the food delicious (she had the shakshuka, I had the mushroom garlic flat bread), and even the coffee (fresh from their espresso machine) was exceptionally good. I'm a fussy tea drinker and I enjoyed their green tea.
We didn't have dessert or any alcoholic beverages but if I could I would definitely go back at night to sit on their patio with the beautiful hanging lights.
The atmosphere is comfortable. Simple design with soft lighting, wooden tables and even a cork wall to give a rustic but modern rural feel. The music was at an ideal volume (I can get easily distracted and it felt unobtrusive) and the pace of service was attentive and respectful.
The two large washrooms are not gender-specific and equally clean and welcoming as the rest of the restaurant.
The Stable House Bistro is a gem tucked away from the noise of South Granville and I highly recommend it to any locals and visitors to Vancouver.
Great food. Server was knowledgeable and friendly. Would definitely go again
Another excellent dining experience at The Stable House. Perfectly executed dishes that are great for sharing. Professional and casual service despite a full restaurant. Love the comment that they can serve cocktails but ‘you should probably choose wine’. An exceptional wine list with many you may not be familiar with but they deserve a spot in their award winning wine list.
Our new fave before a play. Have eaten here twice before plays nearby but like the casual vibe so much we want to go back when we can be more relaxed and try more of their share plates and excellent wines.
Was great snacks, wine and service as always. A hidden Gem
Excellent wine list by the glass-tried four - and small but interesting menu. All four dishes were great with the heirloom squash and steelhead ceviche dishes the highlights
