The origin of The Story Café emerged from the mantra “There is a story in everything”
So in 2018 when we fell upon a 30 year old warehouse, we saw the potential to transform the abandoned space into a warm, hospitable, unique eatery. I thought my pasta was a bit overcooked and too creamy. The musician they hired was it good. Also, the requirement of spending $40 per person because of musician was not told to me in advance.

Incredibly good food for what appears to be just a neighborhood bar and grill. In reality it is a gourmet restaurant with great service and delicious food. We ate there twice during our stay in Vancouver and experience was consistently perfect. Saw some reviews that had said staff was pushy and enforced a two hour limit per table but we no such policy applied. Highly recommend for small groups though as restaurant is small and no sit down bar.

We were excited to try the Story Cafe. We went with another couple. Our reserved table wasn’t ready on schedule and when we were finally seated we were grabbed by our waiter whom appeared to be working in a very new restaurant not one that had been open for a few years. He was not familiar with the menu. When we decided on an appetizer to share and aaakes for some Table bread to accompany it we were informed bread would be an additional $3. When the entrees arrived, one or our party asked for some Parmesan on her pasta and was told it would be an additional $3. My husband and I split an entree and had to ask twice for a plate - first they brought a side plate. For dessert we asked about the cheesecake - if you wanted topping it would be an additional $2. When it was time to split the bill we had to ask to have it recalculated twice and then it was still not correct. The food was fine but overpriced and under spiced. We were all not impressed.

Food was good but the hostess came around 3 times reminding us we only had 2 hours. While I would agree with a time limit if the restaurant is busy but the level of attentiveness and the speed of which the food came out was slow. Considering they wanted us out, one would expect a quicker response from the restaurant. We did not order dessert but did order coffee and when we finally received the coffee, the hostess again came around to remind us of the time limit. I had to tell her we just received our coffee and all she said was sorry and walked away. We have eaten here a few times prior and have never had an experience of being essentially pushed out. Makes me want to think twice about returning. For the price point, I would expect better.

Food is spectacular, really enjoyed the meal. The service was very good, attentive for the most part but we ended up lingering when we wanted to pay and go. the only downside at all was the live music, which was not great and was way to loud. It is great to bring artists in to sing for everyone, but felt like we were subjected to it (think the singer was a friend of the restaurant) and it was too loud. if the music is quieter, this place was simply amazing.

Our review: We were looking for restaurant in Richmond to have dinner with our friends. Goggle it & found this restaurant, read very glowing reviews & decided to try it. Located in a quiet side street ( quite near Richmond Costco). Ample free street parking, on the outside, the entrance was very unassuming, you might missed it if it weren’t for people walking in & out. Inside of the restaurant was so delightful, cozy & lots of vintage & retro items around. The inside of the restaurant was nice & clean. Staff were friendly, quite a good selection on the menu. We ordered the lobster bisque ( it was abit salty, quite preferred the one in Pink Peppercorn). The presentation was nice, they bring the bowl with the lobster meat & lumpfish roe & pour the soup into the bowl in front of you. For mains, my hubby had the Beef Pappardelle, the short ribs was braised for 7 hours, it was good & tasty. I ordered the Signature Risotto, with scallops & prawns, risotto was nicely done & cooked just right, seafood was done well without being overcooked. My friend ordered the appetizers, she enjoyed the salad, prawns & scallops with the crab cakes. All the food served was very fresh & flavourful, very glad I found this restaurant!
