We had lovely birthday party at the Walnut Tree, lovely welcome, great and attentive table service, lovely food, only issue was two meals were supposed to have skinny fries but they came with chunky triple cooked chips which were a little to heavy for the two lady diners, Overall very pleased with our experience

We arrived at exactly 5pm when our table was booked, we were sat down and then left as if we had been forgotten about - my other half went up to the bar to order drinks and asked someone to come and take our food order at 5:30 and they came over at 5:45. Our starter arrived at 6:15 and then our mains was not delivered until 7pm - we felt as if we had been forgotten about and we understand it was busy but no one came over to apologise for the delay or even explain that there would be a delay. The food when it did arrive was cold, and because of this I didn’t eat much of mine at all. I am very disappointed as I have been before and the service and food was amazing so to come back and receive this service and poor food was a disappointment.

We went here yesterday m Father’s Day and they were extremely under staffed for the occasion and the kitchen couldn’t not keep up with the amount orders going into the kitchen. The waiting staff we very friendly and understanding to our frustrations. We waited over an hour for our starters to arrive, then the mains took an extra half hour for our mains to arrive which wouldn’t normally be a problem but giving the waiting time for the starters we were all pretty fed up by this point one of our children was to tired to eat. What was meant to be an afternoon meal turned out to be an evening meal and meaning we didn’t get home until late. Having said all of this the food was delicious when it did finally arrive. We will go back, but not on a day when it will be busy.

Waited over an hour for food despite pre-booking. No warning on arrival that there was a problem with service. Food arrived one plate at a time and waited ages before cutlery arrived so we’re left with food in front of us but nothing to eat it with. Overhead another table complain about waiting 2 hours for food, so I guess we were lucky! When food did arrive, key elements of each dish were missing, ie no salad served with scampi and chips as advertised on menu, also no bread served with Greek Salad as advertised. The children’s penne pasta was so over cooked the pasta fell apart as soon as you tried to pick it up with a fork. We wouldn’t go back based on this experience.

Booked here last minute. The food was amazing and the staff really friendly. I absolutely loved the style of the pub with the beautiful beams. When the bill came I was surprised how reasonable it was. I was expecting it to cost a lot more. Will be back!

The food was quite good. But the area that made our experience a negative one was the staff and drink available. We asked the waiter which beers we're on offer and there were no ales and he didn't even seem to understand the concept of what ale is. He didn't understand that the fish and chips was in a BEER batter and remarked to my mother in law that it was cod not beer. We were only given one napkin and then the waiter was surprised when we asked for more. There was no ale on offer and a short stock of lager. It took a long time between courses to be given the menus again. Service needs serious improvement.

We booked for a party of 10, Sunday lunch for the Jowett Car Club, Southern Section. The service was attentive and not rushed, even though they were pleasantly busy. Other than one missed drink, which they apologized for, their service was spot on. They were kind enough to drop the background music, which was nice to see. Food was good and nicely presented - well done kitchen team. Well done to the team at the Walnut. I’d recommend this pub as a good’un.

Considering the pub was fairly quiet, after sitting down with drinks it took 15 minutes to take our food order and another 40 minutes before it was served. Then pudding arrival was slow as well. Apart from that food was excellent value for money, was well cooked, and visit pleasant. Couldn't help but think they had some sort of problem causing the slowness issue.

We arrived at 12.45 for 1pm, we finally got our meal at 2pm even though there were only a few tables occupied. The person serving us was pleasant, and apologised we had been kept waiting. Sadly we anticipated this as the first thing we saw when coming through the front door was saying staff wanted. Our table had a broken chair and under the table was obviously the remnants of the meal from the evening before. The food was ok but unremarkable.

Not a bad experience. But some staff were rude, at the end of the meal after waiting around 50 minutes for dessert we were told. You’ll have to use a fork as we haven’t got any spoons. Then I was asked quite abruptly do I want the bill. I think it was near closing time. Customer service could be improved here certainly.

The staff were lovely and really went out of their way to chat and accommodate. The food was nice but could have done we being a bit warmer or on hot plates. The only downside was that it was a bit chilly as we were close to the door.

Only fixed menu. Was told dif on the phone. Compared to normal menu paid equivalent to £11 for a starter,as 2 courses were £25. Nomal roast £14.Brushetta was like a brick.chicken supposed to have stuffing,didn't. Lamb was all fat and unedible. Waitress not interested. No offer of mint sauce. Charged for more gravy.

Had a roast - good portions and the meat was good. Could have been warmer. Had run out of cauliflower cheese but it was 4pm. Could do a lot more with this place with small touches. Staff friendly and happy to help.

Lovely meal with friends. Pub was bloomin cold though, some tables were offered blankets, we were not. Food was delicious and there was a singer there who was absolutely excellent. If he had not been there we would not have stayed long because it was so cold.

One meal was reported, one was not. The Roast beef with all the trimmings (?) was not as stated on the menu. It was simply beef mixed up in gravy, cabbage and some potatoes. If as I suspect a shortage in the kitchen, being just after Christmas, this should have been pointed out to us. Overall a very disappointing meal. In short some items were not as stated, and at no time were we informed. This is just not on.

Nice atmosphere for Christmas Eve, we sat in the bar to eat. Some noisy shouty guests but was to be expected. Was surprised that there was no table service due to the current rise in COVID cases, had to order at the bar and no one was wearing a mask. Quite an expensive evening for drinks but would come back again…

We arrived with our puppy of six months, mum and dad and my son Charles for his 25th birthday. Party of five or six including Puppy. I have not been to the Walnut tree for over 20 years and it is still as fantastic as I remember. The food was wonderful, the staff both when making the booking were most helpful and on arrival, are use a wheelchair, we are most accommodating and helpful. They really could not have done any more for us and we had a brilliant lunch and enjoyed every second. Of course we shall be returning very soon I hope and I cannot recommend the excellent service, food and ambience of the Walnut tree.

Norbert happy as We were put in the restaurant instead of the bar despite me requesting a table in the bar. There was no space in the bar and it didn’t look like people were eating at all the tables ! No atmosphere in the restaurant , the fire wouldn’t get going . The food was good , only small niggle the chicken and mushroom pie was average , not particularly tasty and the pastry was soggy. Everyone else’s food was good. We will however go again.

The Pub has tremendous character. The atmosphere is cosy, warm and comfortable. The staff were excellent. Attentitive, without being in ones way, and just so cheerful and helpful. It was my wife's 70th birthday, and when the blonde lady heard that, she came across to our table, sang happy birthday to my wife and produced a candle for her to blow out. After that she asked what the music at our wedding was and proceeded to find the song and play it. A really lovely touch. All in all an absolutely super evening. Good setting, good food, good atmosphere and super staff. 5 star. Greg Pretorius
