The Waterfront Restaurant & Lounge
Let me start with the fact that both the food and service (Jalen) were excellent. Ignore the menu online. Apparently, it has been updated...along with higher prices. We started with calamari (excellent) as an appetizer. My wife got the beef maison and I ordered the ribeye. Although the menu says that the ribeye is 14 oz ($29), it is actually 20 oz ($41). Despite the price, it was one of the best pieces of meat that I ever had. Both my wife and I truly enjoyed our meals.
Now, the bad. Our evening was $150 (w/ tip). The Waterfront struggles with it's identity. Is it a high-end restaurant worthy of such prices? No. This is not a suit and tie joint. As a matter of fact, had I not made reservations, we would have walked out upon arriving. This was date night for the wife and I (got a babysitter for our daughter). We walked in and half the restaurant was having a 50th birthday party. There were about a half-dozen little kids running all over the place. I understand that ownership wants to also allow a banquet feel. But again, what is your identity? I would go back for the food. But for the price and atmosphere, I'd probably opt for another higher end option.
Great vibe but it was a little loud and the table was really too small for two people to have dinner. The waitress didn’t clear anything until she was bringing the next course so it was difficult to maneuver.
The food was good but my Bruschetta Chicken was very soupy and wasn’t glazed but more “swimming” in tomatoes and balsamic.
Overall, a nice experience and we will come back.
First time here and we loved it. You get a lot of food so go light on the bread! Great service. Loved the view of the river and the Renaissance Center in the background.
Excellent food and service
The Chef made a special sauce for my salmon which was awesome. Would like to hear a band that plays a little soulful music from time to time.
Enjoyed the. Music and the s ervice was good. My table was waiting for me when I got there. I didn't end up needing it so I told them they could have it, manager checked to make sure.
Great steak, seafood, and pasta. Food was served quickly and hot with a smile.
As always it was amazing Food was just as great...Santa was there
Coney Island quality of food with terrible service.
This was our first time dining at the Waterfront. Although the food was spectacular, we had to wait an incredibly long time before we received service and for someone to take our order. The management did make it up to us by giving us a round of drinks on him as well as deducting 10% off of our bill. The service was great despite having to wait so long initially. I would still dine there and would recommend to others.
I enjoyed the wonderful homemade ravioli and a lovely evening, well done!
Great food and service.
Loved it! The location was perfect , no wait, low key ... all in all the food was amazing! This was the perfect choice
Great food. Great service. 😁
My sister’s last night in town and made a reservation for 7:30p for outside seating. Got there at 6:30p for drinks up top to find put it was closed for a private party. So we went to the bar and it took 15 mins to get our drinks. It became obvious they were severely short staffed. The mgr gave us our second round of drinks but made my sister’s wrong. So she gave is the drinks free. A guy and gal sat down next to us for drinks. They wanted to eat dinner (no reservation) outside. So by this time we are still waiting for our table and it’s approaching 8:00. The mgr is now at the hostess station and the guy sitting at the bar next to us goes to the hostess stand and asks for a table outside. She starts to seat them when I went over and nicely and calmly reminded her of our reservation for 7:30 outside. It is now 8:15p and after she announces to everyone she has had a hard night because everyone was on her she then says she can seat us and them. The guy and his date get the table next to the water and we got a table in the middle. My food was lukewarm. It got dark on us quickly. It was not a nice evening at all as I had planned.
I don’t have plans to go back anytime soon. Such a pretty venue but poorly managed with long waits
We had wanted to eat outside but as sooon as we got there it started to rain- but we were able to secure a great table next to the window! We had great service! The only bummer was- they were out of Perch and both my husband and father had ordered it and then told were out of it...I am gluten free and they were able to accommodate me when I ordered the chicken piccata! However- no gluten free desserts... we love this place and they are always for the most part able to get us whatever we want!
It would be great if there was a greater craft beer selection on tap. It stopped raining in time for us to sit outside and the host was great at getting our take and seats dried off.
We were very dissatisfied. The food was terrible, service was not goid at all and we are not hard to please. Beautiful atmosphere and the drinks were good but unfortunately that's not enough to justify a return visit. This is very disappointing because we were very much looking forward to visiting this restaurant.
Waited 45 minutes for drinks. Never ordered. Left & went elsewhere. Not even that busy!
Had been there before with ladies took my husband very. Disappointed no favor to food the best were the rolls that came at the end of the meal not going back
The best thing about the Waterfront was the view from the outside seating. Otherwise everything else was 2 stars from me. My Caesar salad was swimming in dressing and was inedible. And the chicken sandwich was dry. I feel that what you are paying for is the view. So, from my experience, once was enough for me.
Everything was perfect. The food was delicious. The service was perfect.
It’s a great place for anything.
Great atmosphere inside and out - they've done an excellent job with the restaurant, considering the views and placement near the water. Surprising more restaurants are not on waterfront given all the space along the river. The food is good but a bit overpriced. Perhaps some of that cost is rolled into the views?
First impressions are big and this place left a great one. Sitting on the patio looking over the water was just an amazing setting. The food was great, too. I can't wait to go back.
Nothing was wrong, but nothing was right. I got Boursin Chicken, it was supposed to have a Boursin cream cheese sauce, but the sauce was the consistency of water and there was SO MUCH of it. It felt like I had a plate of soup. It did taste good though. The clam chowder had huge chunks of celery in it, and a lot of it. My husband got the Mahi mahi Which was supposed to have a pineapple salsa on it, and it was five tiny pieces of pineapple. Then the bill came. They charged $11.50 for a double 7&7, which is absurd. The food was WAY OVERPRICED, for the quality. It’s a beautiful place, but for the price there should be a little more care put into the presentation of the food. It was our first wedding anniversary and I feel like I could have gotten similar food at an Applebee’s and spent way less money.
I was mostly OK with my first visit. Unfortunately my beer was not cold enough. Waiter said the keg was just changed, but even spare keg's should be in the cooler ! My wife's slaw was spoiled and instead of our waiter who I believe was Chris giving us the correct change back. He rounded it off to the lowest dollar which cost him 5% off his tip. His lost, not mine. Not sure if we will return. I mostly am OK with the prices, but I expect to get what I pay for.
We enjoyed the patio very much!
Very good lunch and sat outside. Good service and good value. Will return for sure.
Over priced food and mixed drinks. Mediocre service but the band, “50 Amp Fuse “, was AWSOME!
They have a lovely outdoor deck looking over the Detroit River so that seating is in high demand. We waited for a table outside and as we were seated an outdoor band began to play. It didn’t make for good dinner conversation, the service was just average along with the food. It’s a nice place for cocktails.
Outsoor patio is great
The atmosphere was wonderful, great views right on the river. Crab cakes were excellent, as was the spinach artichoke dip. However, the home made pita chips were a bit hard.
Nothing particularly notable, aside from nice patio dining.
It was nice to sit on patio & enjoy view & weather. Otherwise, not particularly interesting. Food not memorable. Service ok, but quite slow to receive food. Not likely to return.
This trip to the Waterfront was because I won a gift certificate. It was a delightful experience having lunch on the water’s edge. I will visit again
I had been wanting to try this place for dinner. The food was ok... not great but not horrible. Same with the service. The views are great but that was about it. I'd go back and maybe try something simple like a burger. The Chicken Picata was bland and my clam chowder was luke warm. When I told the server it was not hot she just said she would let the kitchen know but no offer of something else or a warm up (I had two spoonfuls). My husband liked his fettuccini alfredo but overall... just meh experience.
Normally the food is pretty good and the drinks, love the white sangria.
Tasted the lavender sangria special and it was terrible, too sweet not like sangria at all. The food left lots of room for Desire, ordered a filet mignon almost $40 cooked medium when the rest of the table ordered pasta, fish and chips and mahi tacos. My steak came out almost when everyone was done with meals, when I sliced into the steak it was well done., disappointing, sent back the steak and asked to have it removed from the bill. The lettuce for the mahi tacos was old, not a good experience. Surprised because we go here often my kids and I. Off day? Maybe
Great first experience! We decided to try The Waterfront since Portofinos changed to a ala carte menu and its just gone downhill. . Erin our server was great! She even ran after us to make sure we didnt leave my moms flowers that were given to her for her 88th birthday. 😃
We will definitely be coming back and making it our “go to” waterfront restaurant.
It took too long to get my table for having reservations and my soup was cold and shorted on my change. Service was not good.
I would recommend probably during lunch time. Was there before and had no problem.
The food was okay but the ambiance of the restaurant definitely makes up for it! The service was very good as well and I really enjoyed myself overall.
