The Woodlawn Inn
The steak had to be send back twice. Seriously, twice. I asked whether it is cooked from frozen, given how tough and overcooked. Bigger concern is the wait-staff. Slow, unhappy, uninformed. It isn't appropriate to approach a patron with"What do ya want?" in taking an order. We and the couple beside had to keep asking for things, could we have our drinks, could we have the bread. Seriously inadequate wait-staff. Two meals at the Woodlawn Inn. There won't be a third.
My cousin and I drove out from Toronto to The Woodlawn Inn for a get together birthday celebration for the both of us. We really enjoyed the food and ambience at Woodlawn and would be delighted to return.
Most likely around Christmas.
Thanks very much for a wonderful afternoon.
Mary Majidi and cousin Jane Anne.
Could not have enjoyed our one night (Classic Package) any more. Arrived post golf and checked in to a nice large room (up a long set of stairs - but our bags were light!). Enjoyed a beer in the bar where the Inn Keeper (and so sorry to not remember the name!) introduced himself and made sure all was good. Had a wonderful dinner with excellent service, a nice bottle of wine from a very extensive list) and as a result enjoyed a great sleep. Up early for breakfast as we had an early t time to make. Breakfast was outstanding. Check out a breeze. All in all a great stay and will be back.
We loved it. Went for a 50th birthday celebration. Perfect spot!
We had high expectations but...Crab bisque tasted like tomato soup with no hint of crab; Vegetable tower was all the same texture (mush)...the lentils were OK; my caesar salad was totally limp and tasted like it was made days before; my lamb, if that's what it was, had very little meat (which was overly done) but lots of fat and was way overpowered by the sauce ($36+!); the mashed potatoes tasted like they were made yesterday and had no flavour. My wife had the Prix Fixe (fish) and was happy with it but not $50 worth of happy.
This was to be a celebratory gift from one of our sons. My wife and I live in Cobourg so this was convenient but that's about it, although the setting was pleasant enough.
Had my son not been there I would have returned the salad and the lamb but I didn't wish to spoil this for him although he did mention the soup and tower to our server who offered to get him something else.
All in all, we will not be going back.
It's always a pleasure to dine in the lovely dining room at the Woodlawn. My two guests and I enjoyed the evening and we were all fully satisfied by the meal. The lobster bisque was excellent as was my wife's Manitoulin trout entree. I enjoyed my dish of lobster tail, scallops and shrimp - just thought there could have been one or two more scallops and shrimp; but the sauce was delicious. My granddaughter thoroughly enjoyed her pasta dish. We all had dessert - generally good. The service was outstanding and the ambience was perfect.
Our group of 3 stayed overnight and also enjoyed dinner there. Marisa was pleasant and most helpful when we arrived. The Inn is centrally located and parking is included. We would like to return and stay longer the next time.
Lovely atmosphere, great food and service.reasonable price for a fine dining experience. I would definitely recommend
we always enjoy the Woodlawn and definately recommend to others. We find it great for business meetings and the ambience is more conducive to talking than many spots
I got the Prix fixe menu and it was some of the best food I've ever had! Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and the service was wonderful.
I hosted a lunch for friends, brothers who live in Kenora and London, U.K. The food was wonderful as usual and the setting very comfortable. The service was excellent, and she was able to deliver the bill to me so that I could pay before the long-armed men could grab it. Because there was a large party in the next room, we did nicotine rush to leave and say good- bye to each other for another year.
One point, most of us ordered the prix- fix menu as it makes sense at lunch; however, my daughter who is vegetarian could not substitute a vegetarian entree, the ravioli, that was a lower price and had to order a la Carte. As a younger person who watches the expenses, she felt awkward about that. Although I was not concerned about the cost, perhaps it is time to include a vegetarian option to the Menu
I look forward to my next good reason to dine at the Woodlawn.
My son and daughter-in-law were visiting from Texas and I wanted to treat them to a nice dinner out for one of their evenings here. The service was excellent and the food was excellent. My 2 sons had a steak that they both raved about. I would certainly recommend it to my friends and/or anyone visiting. Our thanks to the Chef for a delicious dinner!
Food was great and the service was very good.
First date! Was very quiet with excellent food and quiet enough to chat in length! Thank you your meal special was great value and we enjoyed every course!
The shrimp and crab omelette my husband had was tiny but delicious. My apple pancakes didn’t have enough apples on them (1/4 apple total at most) and the pancakes were dry. The service was good I just wouldn’t go back for brunch.
Amazing food! And my wife is
Picky! She loved it!
It was everything that we expected and hoped for. The food was excellent - great taste and good portions. The service was also excellent -- very pleasant and efficient server. The ambience was good, but nothing particularly noteworthy. It was a quiet room, although there was only one other occupied table at the other end of the room with about 10 women. It was quite expensive, but, then again, I expected that. It is a place that I would recommend for people to go to celebrate something, not a place to go for dinner each week.
The Woodlawn is an excellent choice. It is elegant and subdued with excellent food and very pleasant surroundings.
Enjoyable evening. Thank you
Food was excellent. Service fast and friendly
Mother's Day Brunch made this a special occasion and the Woodlawn Inn carried this out with flying colours. The blending of a hot meal with the buffet for a single price was a nice touch. The dessert table was spectacular.
As usual the food and service were exemplary Good attention to detail and personal contact between owners and guests is always appreciated. A GEM in the unfortunate world where such fine dining establishments are few and far between.
Great food, great service. Our favourite restaurant in Cobourg. Never disappointed.
Very nice restaurant. The wines were unusually good.
The food was phenomenal. The employees courteous, and accommodating. The gluten free bread was great. Friday night the volume was quite loud, but Saturday and Sunday breakfasts were nice and quiet.
A very comfortable setting for dining with family or friends. We found an adult-aged clientele in a moderately quiet room. The service was very prompt and the food was quite good. We will visit again.
Staff was very attentive and accommodating to the celiac person in the party, brought a tear to her eye when a supervisor suggested a creme brulee in lieu of the fruit and yogourt dessert choice available to her. They went above and beyond preparing a smoked salmon eggs bennie on a gluten-free muffin too. The mimosa was delicious.
Service was great and the food was just as good .
Wonderful service and very good food and excellent menu and wine list
I gave 4 stars as I reserve 5 for something exceptional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the Cobourg / Port-hope area, best I have found.
Our first time at the restaurant and will definitely be returning. Food was very well presented, flavourful and the portions were more than adequate. We all did the Prix Fixe menu and were very happy with our selections. The one downfall was the service at the end of the evening, we had to wait quite a while to get our bill at the end of evening due to the fact that our server was overwhelmed, she apologized stating her co-worker called in sick, management issue and not meant to reflect on the server.
We loved it. The place is charming, our waitress was fantastic and the food was delicious and cooked to perfection. Would definitely go back.
Fantastic food and service and ambience. We love eating here and highly recommend it.
Lovely dinner - excellent food and warm, friendly service. Large portions beautifully prepared and served nice and hot! Dessert was a generous portion and most fresh & delicious. Thank you.
The food was amazing, probably some of the best that we have ever been served!
I think our expectations were just not inline with what the experience could offer. The food was just ok... I had the tourtiere and the pastry was woefully under baked and then we had the lamb and it was over cooked. We stayed in one of the
cottage suites and again just okay... There was a large pile of hair in the shower and everything just seemed a little run down. However, the beds were really comfortable and the staff went out of their way to acknowledge a birthday, which was very appreciated! I think we just expected more for the prices that were charged... Nothing was cheap but what we received did not align with the price paid.
Lovely meal . Great service. Took our son and his wife to celebrate their birthdays. They had never been. It was very enjoyable.
Hi quality service for amazing value. The dining experience was exceptional once again as was the hotel experience.
Always treated properly, we enjoyed another fantastic meal experience recently for my Mother's 87th birthday. The Inn was busy with a wedding and another birthday celebration, as well as regular guests, but we were treated to delicious meal and just the right amount of personal attention.
The food was not worth the price. The potatoes tasted like they were cooked on a dirty grill top and weren't seasoned at all. The eggs Benedict were nothing to write home about and the English muffins were stale. The tiramisu was lovely but the presentation was outdated. There was one waitress and she seemed to have difficulty keeping up with the amount of tables judging by how long we waited to order, get our bill and pay. Definitely wouldn't go back.
We’ve been to the restaurant on three occasions now.
We love it.
The food has always been excellent and the service is great.
My wife and I love it and will continue to visit for our special nights out.
I will say that I have always stuck with the beef options. This isn’t to say that the rest of their entrees aren’t amazing - I just really love their beef. Kudos to their chef!
My go to is a steak and caeser salad. I usually experiment with the appetizers and try something new in that department. Always been happy
As for a desert, their tiramisu is fantastic as well.
I have also appreciated the owner and he make time to make sure your experience is going well
