I absolutely LOVED everything at the tea. Fairmont generally seems to never disappoint me. I regret I can’t go often enough! Love Love Loved the whole experience!
It was way too loud during our sitting..
The amount of poor reviews is ridiculous. This place was amazing. The restaurant was fully decorated for the raincouver theme. And the service was stellar. We were well taken care of and the food was superb. Definitely value for the exquisite items you get. The main problem are probably the people eating at the establishment. I sat next to a table with two girls who kept scoffing at me and giving me dirty looks when I took a photo of my tea set. But then did it themselves. I was honestly quite mad at our neighbours the entire time. They got their food set and suddenly said they can’t eat seafood to the server. So they got extra sandwiches but they ended up eating their salmon and crab. How ridiculous it was. I noticed all the tables around us never really finished their food yet there’s so many low star reviews for this establishment, honestly I’m so confused. I think this place is doing everything correctly, the poor reviews just reflect on the type of people that expect royalty food served on a silver spoon. I’ll be definitely coming back.
I felt we were rushed out and didn’t have enough time to finish our set. Our reservation was at 1pm but we were not promptly seated at 1 o’clock but were given the bill at 2:45 because our table was reserved at 3 according to the waitress. Overall food and tea was not amazing but the price is on the higher end compare to other tea places around town. I didn’t feel it was worth the money. The ambience and decoration was nice though.
The overall experience was wonderful and the service was spectacular. Each individual food item was good but only few were great- which is generally true with high tea. Overall this is a great special occasion spot.
For the price, the value wasn’t there. We don’t eat meat. So, that may have been part of the issue. But, the selection of food was not very good. The service was fine. However, the ambiance was nothing great.
We attended the "Raincouver" themed tea on Sunday Feb 2 at 1 pm. The sweets were amazing. My share was gluten free and the sandwich bread was very plain and dry but the fillings were all delish. Loved the themed decorations and the service was outstanding (thanks for singing me "Happy Birthday"!). It's a little more pricey for high tea here than some other places in Vancouver, but you feel like a celebrity and the themes are done very, very well.
Really special high tea. Definitely recommend. Service was fantastic! Wayne was wonderful.
I’ve been to many afternoon teas- this was mediocre at best. For such a high price tag the food could have been a lot better. There were a lot of doughy fillers that weren’t that good - this brought down the overall quality of the tea. I would not recommend this high tea with so many other wonderful spots it town.

We had such tasty food with a whimsical theme - umbrellas, puffy clouds and cute rubber duckies all around. Afternoon Tea at the Fairmont ....Highly recommend!!!

I had very high hopes for high tea at the Fairmont (image wise - it seems higher end, the nutcracker theme seemed very cute, it's the Fairmont!) but I left very disappointed.
The food was very average.
The tea itself was fine but we were only asked about water refills within the first 15 mins of getting our tea. With two pots of tea for two people, it's not like we needed refills that early on but still appreciated being asked. I thought that level of service was going to continue throughout, but our server never came back around to offer us a tea refill. We sat there for the full 1.5 hours and only in the last 10 mins did we manage to flag down our server to ask for more tea. Then he came by and left the bill and machine, and I had to tap and tear off my own receipt since he never bothered to come back around. Considering it is $79 per person pre tip/tax, it's at the high end for high tea and it def wasn't worth that price. I would not consider going back and would never recommend it. What a disappointment.
Dear JTTC, Thank you for joining us for the Nutcracker Afternoon Tea and for sharing your perspective. I understand that the food and service were not to expectations. First let me say it was ghastly. There aren’t enough negative words to describe. Secondly, and what matters most, is the chef very graciously made it right by comping our tea. A review is not necessary: we will never go back.
Dear Bonvivant, Thank you for joining us for the Nutcracker Afternoon Tea. Chef, myself and the rest of the team are grateful for your gracious feedback and look forward to the opportunity to make adjustments to our Afternoon Tea service to more precisely meet the dynamic tastes and preferences of our valued guests. The notch8 at the fairmont hotel always sets their standards high. This nutcracker tea is no exception, the treats were beautiful & the staff is always friendly. Everything was fresh & we were checked on regularly. I do feel the price is a little on the high side compared to many other afternoon teas especially considering champagne/bubbles are not included. That being said the level of detail & the atmosphere of notch8 does surpass many other establishments.
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for joining us for Nutcracker Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to share your feedback. I am delighted to hear that the beautiful treats, friendly staff and anticipatory service were highlights of your experience. Nutcracker Tea was extremely disappointing.
We weren’t sure if the bread was stale or dry. The deserts too sweet. The same tea leaves topped with hot water throughout the two hour tea.
The soup was however delicious and the service was very good. Not worth the money.
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for joining us for Nutcracker Afternoon Tea. I understand that while the soup was delicious and the service very good, the breads, desserts and tea service were not to expectations. Please allow me to express my sincere apologies for the disappointment. I invite you to connect with me directly, it would be my pleasure to discuss how we may ensure your experience is unparalleled going forward. Thank you, Bradley Bilick General Manager +1 604 443 1816
It’s high tea. Scones and desserts were excellent. The finger sandwiches though were disgusting. Soggy and been sitting in the fridge too long. I am re-thinking our afternoon tea spot. Not impressed.
Dear CaroleM, Thank you for joining us for the Nutcracker Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to review your experience. I am surprised and disappointed to learn of your dining experience, please allow me to express my sincere apologies. I would relish the opportunity to discuss how we may continue to be the Afternoon Tea spot that you look forward to returning to again and again and invite you to connect with me to discuss. Thank you, Bradley Bilick General Manager +1 604 443 1816
The food was disappointing this time. The bread and pastries were overly dry that made some of us question whether or not the bread was stale. The desserts were too sweet and the food presentation was a bit plain for an Christmas event. The hot chocolate that started the meal was the best dish and after that everything went downhill. I have had better experiences at notch so I hope this was a one off. Other than the mouse king and the nutcracker on the table, I don’t find much representation or theme of this story in the experience
Dear Bosau, Thank you for joining us for Nutcracker Afternoon Tea. From your feedback I understand that the food and ambience were not to expectations. I would have preferred traditional high tea. When I think of Fairmont Hotel Vancouver I think of traditional high tea with more traditional decor and the standard high tea sandwiches, scones and deserts. The themed tea and the regular Indian theme at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver are losing the tradition, in my opinion. I would prefer traditional high tea. For the cost it was not the premium quality food, atmosphere and experience it should be. It wasn’t terrible but it was not Fairmont quality for the price.
Dear MaureenM, Thank you for joining us for Spice Merchant Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to share your insights. I understand that the theme was not to taste or preference, and that the food, atmosphere and overall experience were not aligned with expectations. Please allow me to express my sincere apologies for the disappointment. I invite you to consider our next themed tea, which I think you might be very interested in... I INVITED MY GRANDAUGHTER TO HIGH TEA AT THE NUTCRACKER TO CELEBRATE HER VISIT BACK HOME FROM COLLEGE IN TORONTO. ABSOLUTELY DIVINE TEA DAINTIES THAT WERE A SIGHT TO BEHOLD. THEY WERE ALL BEAUTIFUL AND DELICIOUS AS WELL! WE EACH RECEIVED A BOX FOR SOME THAT WE COULD NOT EAT THAT AFTERNOON BUT ENJOYED LATER.
Dear JanetD, Thank you for bringing your grand daughter to Nutcracker Afternoon Tea and for so graciously sharing your feedback. I am thrilled that the beautiful and delicious tea dainties helped create the perfect setting to celebrate her return home for the holidays. I invite you to make it an annual tradition, it would be a pleasure to welcome you back. Thank you, Bradley Bilick General Manager +1 604 443 1816
on open table i had mentioned it was for my daughter celebrating her birthday and that there would be a slight mention at least on the dessert plate. nothing.
Dear Valued Guest, Thank you for joining us for Afternoon Tea to celebrate such a special occassion and for taking the time to share your perspective. I am very sorry that we missed this opportunity to delight you and your daughter. It would be my pleasure to turn this situation around, and I invite you to connect with me directly at your earliest convenience to discuss. Thank you, Bradley Bilick General Manager +1 604 443 1816
My family and I have been patronizing the Fairmont high tea for many years and this year, for the first year, we were disappointed. The savoury selection missed the mark as the selection was very unusual and didn’t taste ‘bright and fresh’ having muddied flavours. I was unable to discern the turkey and the salmon completely. The service was lacking as I had to ask for a number of things for our table. In summary I am not certain that we will return next year, perhaps selecting a different venue for our Christmas visit of downtown Vancouver.
Dear MonicaJ, Thank you for your loyalty, for joining us for Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to share your perspective. I see that the food and service were not what you have come to expect and anticipate over the years. Please allow me to express my sincere apologies for the disappointment. It would be my pleasure to restore your loyalty, and I invite you to connect with me directly at your earliest convenience to discuss. Thank you, Bradley Bilick General Manager +1 604 443 1816
Came here with a girlfriend for our Christmas get together and had a really lovely time. The room is very pretty (although a little chilly) and the staff were excellent. The food was very creative and delicious. Would have been nice to have more tea and not just hot water in already steeped tea though. Overall very enjoyable.
The food was quite good. However, it was a birthday treat for
my Mom from myself & my kids aged 11 &13. The hotel advertises a children’s tea option, but it was essentially the same menu with an added peanut butter / jam and ham/cheese sandwich. Most of the food was not appetizing to my kids who are not adventurous enough to try duck or sandwiches made of stuffing & turkey. The service was very good & they brought lots of extra food, just not food catered to kids. The Empress hotel in Victoria has a much more kid friendly tea. I did give them feedback & hope they amend the menu.
Dear ChristieR, Thank you for joining us for Afternoon Tea and for taking the time to share your perspective. I am delighted that you have provided us the opportunity to adapt our menu to the changing tastes and preferences of our younger guests. Everything was so amazing; the food, the setting and the service was excellent! Very attentive to all the diners. Great experience, highly recommend.
We were quite disappointed in the offerings, having done tea at many other classy places in the past (e.g., The Empress in Victoria, Butchart Gardens, The Mark in New York, etc.). There was too much emphasis on cutsiness of presentation and not enough on doing sizable enough portions of fewer items that one could do more than a brief taste. (Also, too much emphasis on sweets.....though that might be just a personal preference and an age thing.)
Very disappointing! Some sandwiches were soggy and overall flavors were very muted and nondescript. Fruit cake scone was the only memorable bit. Too much sweet vs. savory. I really feel $79 was exorbitant for this bland unbalanced fare. In addition, presentation “tiered servers” looked forced and resembled homemade crafts. I really hope Fairmont reads these reviews and makes improvements, I could not recommend this experience.
The menu changed from Spice Merchant to Nutcracker theme and is still misrepresented on Open Table.
This year’s theme was not executed nearly as well as last year. The presentation felt intrusive and blocked views of your companions. The menu was satisfactory but lacking compared to last year. The highlight was the marmalade and the fruitcake scone.
Great service, decor and food. Pricing is a bit expensive relative to the type of food though even if this is Fairmont.
The quality of high tea is poor... Smell bad and too many different spices
I was a bit disappointed this time because when I raised my hand up to ask the waiter something, a lot of the waiters just walked past me and ignored me. I had my hand up for 5 minutes and other people at other tables started to look at me as if I was abnormal. When I payed the bill, I still tipped 15% even after I had that bad experience. The waiter should be lucky that I still tipped 15% even when I was ignored many times. Overall the decor was nice, it suits the Spice Merchant Themed High Tea and the savory was really flavorful. It was busy on November 10, 2019 and I had to wait approx. 35 minutes for the sweets to arrive. It was not served all at one time because it was served in tiffins, and not in the traditional 3 tier stand, the tiffins are provided by Ms.Tiffin.
Dear AnsonF, Thank you for joining us for Spice Merchant Afternoon Tea and for sharing your experience. The atmosphere was pretty good. The food wasn’t the best, I found that I enjoyed the savoury selection that they had but the sweet/dessert selection wasn’t great.
great service. the waitress was super nice. The restaurant was amazing. the ambiance perfect.
Didn’t know we were to say in advance of booking if there were any allergies so it messed up set menu to make alterations. Food was mediocre. Didn’t feel price reflected the quality of food.
I chose this menu because it seems to have a balance of savoury and sweet items. In the end, we found the savory items to be smaller than the sweet ones. As we went on Saturday, it was pretty busy and appeared to be short staffed. Tables were not cleaned up promptly and looked unsightly. The tea service was served inside their library, which has pretty low ceiling and not much soft coverings, so the noise level inside the room felt more like a dim sum restaurant when everyone were talking. A far cry from the serene experience one would come to expect when having afternoon tea at restaurants that specialize in high or afternoon tea. At $65 pp, I don't think it's good value for money.
The tea did not feel like high tea. It was a dark room and the savoury items were large not small sandwiches. I think there was too much sweet and not enough savoury. Also overpriced, I had the vegetarian option and it was very basic. The best items were the Gulab jamun cheesecake and scones. The vegetarian sandwiches weren’t very Indian just a lot of tomatoes. Waitress was very friendly!
My only comment - I am a little disappointed that the afternoon tea was confused with high tea. Visiting BC, I will hope that the employees will know that calling it high tea does not make it fancy. High tea is served between 5 and 6 pm. It is served in a high table and is for the working class and they serve heavy meals. Afternoon tea is served with delicate China and involves table manners. The presentation was very fancy and by no means it was a high tea experience . I really hope you take my feedback seriously and educate you staff on this particular topic.
