This was to be my first visit to Tom's Urban. I made the reservation 6 weeks in advance since I was going to a concert at Staples and I am not familiar with the area. I received a confirmation email the day prior to my reservation and replied that I would be there. When we arrived, the place was crazy crowded and I thought, wow, glad I have a reservation! Once we found the front desk, we were informed that the restaurant was not taking reservations and would not honor our reservation for dinner. If I had been notified ahead of time via email or Open Table, I could have made other arrangements for dinner, but Toms Urban did not communicate the change with me. I have no intention of returning to this restaurant and I let all my friends know what a disappointment it was.
This place was awful. Had made reservations a month beforehand and they weren’t even taking our reservations even with proof of email.
Came here before a concert on a Saturday. We were seated. Ordered are drinks and food right away. Took 30 minutes to get our drinks. Had to go to the bar myself since it took so long and order our first round. When we finally received our drinks, one was wrong so they took it back and never brought the correct one. After an hour had gone by my food still had not come...I Had to cancel the order because I couldn’t wait any longer or I would miss the concert. WORST service EVER. Will NOT go back. The waiter said he’d get the manager and never did.
Our waiter, Christiann, was outstanding! The kitchen and bar service were very slow, though. Christiann had to check with the kitchen many times before all of our food finally arrived (not at the same time). The bar sent out several extra drinks for unknown reasons.
The atmosphere was fun but the wait for food was frustrating.
The joint was crowded and our server did her best but the food was slow coming out. Also I got charged for a drink I did not order. I ordered my first drink and then the server asked if I would like another. I said yes and shortly another drink came out. I was in the process of drinking that when they brought another drink to the table and I informed them I got my drink. The bar server said well we already made so here it is. I expected not to have to pay for their mistake but since I drank it I did
Not that great... took 30 minutes until someone acknowledged us wish I knew her name but a server saved the night and gave us great. Service
Everything was great until our original server left on break. We never even saw our replacement server for 30-45 minutes. Luckily, we were not in a hurry to go anywhere. She apologized when she brought us our bill.
Our waitress was very nice but the service was patchy as they have runners for food and drinks. The drinks we ordered from the bar took awhile to come and were watery. The food was only ok, and not as described on the menu. The chicken with the pancake wasn’t xl or spicy. For the prices they charge I’d expect better.
We left because it was at least 10 minutes and no one came to take our drink order. We overheard another server who told a table (next to me) that he’s waiting a lot of tables and apologized for the delay. This is the third time I’ve been to this restaurant and each experience was slow or very delayed. There’s so many other restaurants around LA that I don’t believe I’ll be returning to this one or recommending it either.
Food was terrible. Nothing made from scratch. The pickles were sliced jarred pickles deep friend in batter that were soggy. The roasted corn was canned corn placed in an oven, not from a cob.
Overall good. Bathrooms needed to be cleaned, restocked with paper towels and toilet paper.
Recently ate at Tom’s prior to a concert. We arrived on time for our 5:45 reservation and we were promptly seated. Unfortunately, after 15 minutes of waiting, no one had acknowledged our presence. Finally, a server from another area , Evelyn, came over. She had noticed that no one had assisted us. She profusely apologized and proceeded to take our order. For the rest of our dining, she provided excellent service with smile even though she had taken on an additional table and was very, very busy. The food at Tom’s is always delicious but the extra effort by this waitress transformed an annoying beginning into a very pleasant dining experience.
The service was so bad that our entire meal was written off by management. Wine glasses took forever to arrive with the bottle and when they did arrive they were disgusting and dirty. We couldn't get replacement glasses so we had to go up to the bar ourselves and exchange them. The table was uneven and when we asked to have it fixed no one was capable of addressing it. Water was spilled all over two people in our party. To top it off the food was disgusting Overall this was a horrible experience...I would take this restaurant off of OpenTable
Best lobster roll I’ve had on the west coast!! Street tacos great too.
Service good and attentive .
Best place for quick bite before going to staples center .
It was fine. Food was good. Lots of screens going with blooper reels and sports. Service wasn't great and they didn't know how to make a martini which was odd. It was fine to grab a burger before a concert at staples and probably good for a beer after.
We went for a pre concert dinner date. They seated us quickly. Service a little slow but friendly. Food was good but spicy. Slightly expensive side but not bad. $75+tip for 2 meals, drink, appetizer. Would go back.
The food was sub par. Our Brussels sprouts that were supposed to be an appetizer came out after our main entrees, even though the app was ordered with our drinks. The modifications we requested for our sliders were not followed.
I have to say though, I was not going here with high expectations. Just a bite to eat before a concert. I knew not to expect much because places like these do not care about their food or customer experience, they will thrive no matter what given their location. Our server was so nice though, although nothing came out correct and the timing was all off, he was very nice, friendly and personable.
Not great. Service was erratic and food wasn’t great by any means.
the wait for our food was way too long. especially when the restaurant was not very busy for a saturday night.
Place was slow not busy whatsoever but yet the food was cold !!
Came for brunch with a friend.
We were so disappointed on this visit to Tom’s.
This will be our last visit there.
I was surprised to get a reservation on a Saturday afternoon. When we got there the place was nearly empty. The hostess sat us down very quickly and then we waited a while for a server to take our drink order. My husband wanted to go to the bar and order his drink and I told him that would be very rude and make the server look bad. I pointed out there was only one server in the whole place.
So we waited. We ordered appetizers and drinks. I ordered my usual three taco combo. The meat was stale and flavorless. The lemon or orange wedge on my plate was completely dry and the lime wedge was brown. I ate the flavorless tacos didn’t want to complain since my husband loves coming here. I looked on another website and saw that Tom’ s reviews about their food and service had gone done the drain. We also ordered steak nachos. The guacamole was black and there was no steak. No servers came to our table. My son’s meal came much later and was incomplete. Some minutes later the server passes our table and I asked him for a coke refill and he said okay but kept walking away and I was still missing an order of french fries. Finally there were more servers but our service never improved. My husband went to the bar to order his second beer. Even at the nearly empty bar it was hard to get a drink. We were done with this place. 90 minutes there no refills no one took our order for our main entree. We asked the bill and now the server was friendly even telling me to have a good day calling me by my name. He questioned my husband where he got the beer from. My husband told him don’t worry I paid for it. I left a mere $5 tip on a $67 bill. I wasn’t even done signing the bill when the server was already there picking up his tip. I was so disappointed with the quality of food and the service that Tom’s is now offering. It has changed so much I’m upset to have wasted a Saturday afternoon at this place.
They didn't honor my reservation. I got there on time. The hostess told that they had not table.
Really bad experience.
Nice atmosphere, plenty of sports action on the televisions. Appears they were short staffed and the waitress did her best to keep up. There were some guests that looked like they had been waiting for their food for some time. We ordered the sliders and some other appetizers. The sliders weren’t as hot as I liked my food to be and not very tasty. Food was overpriced for the quality. Wasn’t an experience that would draw me back there again.
Wonderful service, loved the restaurant! Will be back again
Poor service, poor food, and another L.A. ripoff.
When my business guest asked for sugar to go with his iced tea (which had almost no ice in it to begin suggesting it had been sitting there for some time), the server brought two packs of sugar. That's it.
3 of the 4 of us were served lunch, and the 4th (who only ordered a salad with shrimp) had to wait another ten minutes. When her salad arrived, it had three shrimp on it. When the server was asked "why?", she was told they "ran out of shrimp". It didn't make my guest comfortable about eating the 3 which were on the salad.
All of this impacted the quality of our meeting as well since I suggested this as a place to dine and meet.
Very disappointing. If I could, I'd get my money back.
Chose it only because of proximity to Microsoft Theatre and they will take early reservations. Food is ok for a sports bar. Drinks fine too. Their telephone system puts you in an endless loop with no live person being accesible.
My reservation was for 6 regular seating - our options upon arrival were high top or squeeze into a booth. Our server was friendly but slooooooow. We sat for 10 minutes before placing our drink order. 20 minutes later, we had 1 of 6 drinks. We could see them sitting on the bar, but our server was MIA. Two of the drinks were wrong. Placed our order for apps and food at same time because at this point we had been there for 30 minutes. 20 minutes later, our apps came out. We had no napkins or silverware. 5 minutes later, here comes our entrees. I tried the signature chicken and cornbread dish. The salted caramel butter and syrup made it tasty, but otherwise it was pretty bland. 5 out of 6 people did not like their entree. We asked for the check. 20 minutes later our server shows back up to clear away plates with NO check and to let us know she is bringing a birthday dessert. 15 minutes later we finally see a manager and ask HIM for our check. At this point, we just wanted out. The bathroom had no toilet paper and was disgusting. The manager was really good at his job. Poor guy has to be - I heard three other tables complaining about the service.
Typical bar experience. Cocktails good but expensive. Food adequate but not worth the price.
I haven't been here since this place was ESPNZone so it's been a long time. I made reservations here because we needed something to eat before seeing the premier of the movie Rampage. We were 15 minutes late but they still held our reservation.
The place was busy because there was also a Lakers game going on. It's a large sports bar with a solid menu. With Yelp app I was able to check in a very my choice of a few small appetizer. The choices were Fried pickles or roasted Brussels sprouts. We decided to have the Brussels Sprouts and they were really good. I ordered the Green Goddess Chicken sandwich and it hit the spot.
We were waited on by a gentleman named Christian. He was very attentive and provided great service. We told him about how we were running late and he was able to get our orders out quickly.
My food was pretty good but and the service was good as well. It was a fun spot. I just wish the music wasn't so loud.
Food is basically microwave frozen food from Costco.
With using the Opentable app we were seated immediately, where Greg graciously took our drink order. Great atmosphere, amazing service, perfect location, and great food!
We come to Tom's Urban because we are season ticket holders for Staples Center. So Tom's has good food for the convenience of being close to Staples. But for some reason we have trouble with the hostess desk checking us in for our Open Table reservation so we get credit. This has happened 9 times out of 10. I always have to double check with the hostess to make sure they checked us in so we get the credit. I really don't understand why it's so difficult. You just need to check the name off when we give it to you, that we're here, then seat us. No brainer.
Next the food is usually good, but in the last 6months we can say it's gone down hill in quality. Maybe they changed chef's, maybe someone was on vocation. Whatever the reason the food was not as good and the quality was Meh. I always get the Brined Chicken, Louisiana spicy and this last time it was greasy, greasy, greasy. Plus the pieces were not white meat, they were thighs. They don't give you the option of ordering white or dark. It use to only be white, so I don't know who's cutting corners but the thighs had knuckles on them, all deep fried so you couldn't see it until you bit into it. Very disgusting and not very appetizing when you have to spit stuff out of your mouth in your napkin. UGH! So I sure hope that Tom's Urban gets there act together cause we'll be heading back to Rock N Fish or The farmhouse!
