Like always, even if the bill is a bit steep, the food at Torafuku is awesome! You can feel that there is real work and care to serve tasty food and complex textures.
The waitress was really nice, helpful, not too intrusive.
I highly appreciated that the level of noise was not too heavy, unlike a lots of places in Vancouver, so I was able to talk freely with my partner.
The only remark I would have to point out to Torafuku is the ambiance of the restaurant that could be better. I understand the style of the place is minimalist, but it feels really cold. I think the stripped down mood could be there without the austerity part. Fortunately the lighting is subdued but the choice of the few decoratives item is strange. I am not sure if it's actually a choice or if it's just a way to dull the resonnance of the room, but there was a big ugly panel hung on the wall that looked like dusty asbestos half wrapped with tarp...
Food and service are all excellent. The accoustics are at the high end of the decibel scale. so, conversation with your companion(s) is challenging.
Great tasting food, we wanted to move tables and it was immediately accommodated. Friendly service from staff. Will definitely come again.
Food was amazing and a great value for what you get! Drink service was really slow and we would have liked to had a drink while we waited for our food but it all came out at the same time. However, we didn’t eat much of one dish because it wasn’t too great and they took it off our bill! We didn’t even complain about they just asked us how come we didn’t eat very much of it. They really care about the service and the customer experience.
Great cocktails, attentive & friendly service and very creative & delicious food. Favourite dishes were the beef tataki, anything on a stick, and the dragon balls. Cool interior too with a good vibe.
Great vibe, great food, friendly and accomodating staff.
Service was pretty bad.. I know it was Valentine’s Day and busy but no one came to talk to us for a long time, no one explained the menu. It was our first time there. No one asked how our food was and if we wanted to order another drink or dessert. The couple next to us ordered immediately despite us being seated for a good 5-10 minutes before them. They forgot our dumplings and then we tried to cancel they said no it’s coming, long story short they never came and then we asked for the bill with not much apology. We were not the only ones waiting around for service either. Food is average. Skewers were cold when they arrived. Overpriced. If this is on your list to try...hopefully it’s a long list.
The saving grace was that the price is right, many cheap shareplates to choose from. We are vegetarian and ordered the veggie dumplings...pork dumplings came after they'd been announced as veggie - not a nice surprise to bite into. Also, the waiter really didn't seem to care. On top of that, the veggie dumplings weren't hot when they did finally arrive.
We were seated at the long communal table, which isn't really ideal when you want to share 4 or 5 dishes, there just isn't enough room. And we were extra cramped with all the dirty dishes that sat in front of us for the remainder of the meal.
Its too bad about the service because the food is really tasty and interesting, and the flavours are layered very well.
Torafuku is underrated. This place is the best. It's the secret gem
Came while dine out Vancouver was on and they couldn’t serve us any vegan dishes that were normally on the menu
Torafuku has an innovative menu and amazing cocktails. The service was on point. Everything on every plate was purposeful, delicious and visually stunning.
First time at Torafuku and Dineout experience was incredibly disappointing.
In our group, two of us were vegetarian and the descriptions of the menu options looked amazing. Unfortunately their flare for writing did not translate into their dishes. We paid well over 150$ for 2ppl to eat a plate of raw green beans covered in mayo and half a raw red cabbage, covered in mayo with puffed rice on top! It wasn't even warmed....just cold raw cabbage, covered in mayonnaise. We were shocked and laughed thinking there must have been a mistake, but when it became clear this is what they had intended to serve us, we just felt insulted. I don't care if as a vegetarian I can't be accommodated everywhere and had I known this is what was going to happen, I would have gladly chosen another restaurant. It's been three weeks since we had this meal and I am still angry about the money we wasted. The chef must have been laughing from the kitchen at us suckers who paid 150$+for raw cabbage, green beans and mayo.
They dont scrimp on the ingredients especially the meat. 45 bucks for the dine out menu was super worth it.
The food was amazing! We ordered 4 Dineout sets for the 3 of us and they were all delicious!
Food was very interesting, but different from what we expected. We ordered from the dine out menu so the meal was very random and did not pair together well from one course to the next.
It was a delicious meal for great value during dine out! Went for lunch with my friend and thoroughly enjoyed it!
Went for dine out last week, food was amazing!! We didn’t wait long and it was the perfect amount. Definitely will be back to try out the menu.
Fairly disappointed in our Dine Out experience.
We ordered all of the vegetarian options after clarifying that scallops were not, in fact, vegetarian!, but were surprised to find that the two middle courses (Not a Has Bean and A Wedgie) were basically raw veggies tossed in mayo. The Bean dish was meant to have a mustard seed vinaigrette, but was dressed in mayo for some reason. So not only were the veggies tough to eat, they both were overdressed in unflavourful mayo.
The main course - ravioli - was over cooked to the point that the filling was spilling out.
The cocktails were good.
Our total for two dine out meals and two cocktails and tip was $150+. We felt like we didn’t get our money’s worth.
I loved my meal and experience at Torafuku previously, but won’t be back for Dine Out.
Food and drinks here are always solid, as is the ambiance. The Dine Out menu selections were not necessarily their best offerings but were still great nonetheless. We went with the duck salad, chicken wings, tiger balls, and beef entree. The stand out dishes for us were the tiger balls and the mango panna cotta dessert. Will definitely be back (just maybe not for Dine Out).
The service was not good - waited outside until very last minute of reservation time and then server said I cannot seat at a table because I'm bu myself (friend was sick) - so she offered to put me into the most uncomfortable spot, next to cashier and kitchen. Also both servers were not paying attention, did their best not to smile or be nice, formally attentive and eager to kick you out and get some new customers. The quality of food - nothing impressive or worth mentioning. Just wondering: why would you open your business to Dine Out for lunch when you're not trying to appeal to customers or make a good impression?! Felt like everyone is there to formally fill up and be out right away.... Would NOT recommend it to folks interested in trying out new places!!!
Set up reeservation for 9:45 but didn't get a table till a little past 10, they had us in a corner for 2 people which was nice, had a nice view of the bar, and the rest of the restaurant. Food came out in a timely manner, with the server coming by often to make sure all needs are met. Aside from that we had a great time, and we'll look forward to coming back again.
The food was mediocre. The washrooms were disgusting.
Great food and decent value (as part of Dine Out Vancouver), although portions are small. We had an 8pm reservation and were only seated at about 8:15pm. After dinner, we asked to order a round of cocktails but were informed that they could not serve us a drink as they had another table booked for 9pm - therefore, they only provided us an hour to order, eat and drink (and there were four of us). It seemed very rushed, and I feel as though we should have been told we only had an hour limit when made our reservation or at least when they sat us at our table.
Tried this for dine out and didn't impress. Only highlight is the great service but unfortunately, food is very mediocre. Even for dine out, it is very expensive for what you get. Not really worth going to.
I was bummed that my experience at Torafuku, it was not up to par as previous years! I had the dine out menu 2 years ago and my friend went last year & it was amazing! This year’s dine out was let down. The dumpling smelled spoiled & didn’t taste good. The green beans didn’t taste that great either, we think it would’ve tasted better if it was cooked. Wings were decent. The “Milky Way” was a scallop dish in coconut milk, the milk tasted sour with a coconut milk taste after taste. The entrees, prawn risotto & the beef dish were AMAZING! Almost made up for the appetizers. The desserts were decent as well. Overall experience, it was disappointing for me since I had high expectations from previous years & hearing all the raves from other people. I read other reviews say that the dine out this year was also not good, sand in the prawns, weird taste/smell as well. What a bummer :( Hopefully next year will be better!
Rice was either of very poor quality or not cooked properly at all, cardinal sin from an Asian restaurant.
Food came out fast and hot. Friendly staff and would come again
Food was very good. I had their $15 Dine Out lunch. It was best value for money.
For some reason my reservation didn’t change in the restaurant’s system, even though I received an email confirming my updated reservation. Pleasantly, the hostess was able to accommodate and we got seated right away.
The portion is just enough. Taste good. Great music and atmosphere.
Very good deal for dine out, the food was tasty and we didn’t wait between every dishes. Very good experience
In terms of food and service it was really good, but the portions were fairly small and not worth the price; at least for dine out vancouver.
Went there for dineout 2019. Food and atmosphere was great. However, the price value of this years dineout was too high compared to last year. Last year at the price point of $30 it was a better deal than the $45 value. I found that the menu was not filling at all. The service was alright considering there was only 2 servers running around.
Tasty food - interesting and layered flavourings in the dishes. The service was very prompt and friendly.
Had a lovely dinner at Torafuku. All new flavourful dishes were created for Dine Out Vancouver Festival and it was all delicious. The charcoal grilled jumbo prawns, Chinese BBQ sauce, manilla clams, risotto (fried rice style with local mushrooms, green peas, and egg swirl was amazing, although a rich dish for one person to eat. The dong po style steak with, yummy buttery yuzu pommel puree, roasted sun chokes, baby carrots, taro chips was melt in your mouth. The cocktails were inventive and satisfying and the dessert of mango sago, pomelo, coconut panna cotta, mojito dust was a nice light finish. Great happy hour menu on offer and a fantastic place to share some amazing food. It was a fun feasting!
This was my first Dine Out lunch experience, and I'm really glad I chose Torafuku. The food was amazing; complex flavors, well-sized portions, fresh tasting ingredients. Like always, the service was attentive even though the restaurant was super busy. This is my go to place for pan-Asian inspired, thoughtful, creative food.
DineOut menu portion was small and definitely not worth the $45 value. Would come back and try the regular menu but definitely would not recommend DineOut.
We went to Torafuku for Dine Out, which is pretty challenging to do a delicious well coursed meal for the price point and volume. We enjoyed the first 2 courses but weren't blown away, and then we got the main course and it was one of the most delicious dishes. Major depth of flavour, deeply satisfying.
It was disappointing - last year we went for Dine Out and were very impressed by the innovative flavours and dishes and went back as regular customers several times. This year it tasted very average and in fact over priced for what we were served.
Nice place, good food, but way too expensive, and super small portions!
