   We had the tasting menu $125 per person. Server didn’t seem to know the menu well, couldn’t answer basic questions about items for us. Mistook a carrot purée for red pepper purée. Served us “oyster mushrooms” on pasta which were clearly shiitake. Same pasta sauce was reused on multiple dishes. Tiresome to the senses. This is Italian food, but come on…it’s not difficult to get creative with sauces. Pasta dishes were garnished w “green bottle Parmesan” rather than real parmigiano reggiano. For this price point, I expect higher quality ingredients. Scallop appetizer was garnished with beluga caviar diluted with almond milk. Beluga caviar and almond milk. Need I say more? I feel like I could stop here, I wish I could. Focaccias the size of mini muffins were offered as a price point of $3 per unit. Though they were piping hot and clearly fresh, everyone at the table agreed that I myself (and I’m no expert baker) make better focaccia at home. I have a general rule about eating out, and that is I like it when my food experience is elevated beyond what I’m capable of at home. Again I’m no stellar home cook. At the very least this restaurant would benefit from better server education, an investment in real parmigiano reggiano wedges (just buy them from costco for goodness sake), and a little more inspiration in their sauces. On the upside, proteins were done well, cooked to temperature. Scallop, lobster, and beef - properly cooked and seasoned. pasta was fresh tasting, but I’m not convinced they were made the same day. Ambiance was decent. Convenient location. Unfortunately, I know how to cook my own proteins to temperature so the verdict is we will not be returning. Especially considering the $600 bill for 4 people plus tip. Exorbitant is too kind a word, even for downtown DC. Disappointing.

   Classic, elegant yet semi-casual experience. Experiential eating, considering that we had the tasting menu, and we were very full at the end of it. Wine pairing was delicious and not terribly expensive. Staff was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Overall a fantastic dining experience.

   Always creative presentation. Burrata slash with colorful shaved fennel on tomato purée was amazing. Special seafood entree was perfectly grilled lobster and scallops.

    We’ve eaten at Tosca several times of the years whenever we go to DC. It never disappoints and is always a treat. Great people watching, fine bar scene with an excellent bartender. Service is attentive and friendly and food arrives well prepared and delicious. Wonderful wine list with great Italian and California vintages. Maitre d’ is truly wonderful and helped us get in and out to the nearby garage via back door! Very thoughtful of him. Restaurant is expensive but definitely worth the splurge.

    The branzino was delicious. Perfectly cooked. Excellent service. We were there, a party of 4, and we had 1 hour and a half before we left to see show at Ford's Theatre. The experience was terrific. Everyone in group enjoyed their food ( 2 vegetarian pasta dishes and the tuna entree in addition to branzino.) Definitely would go back.

    I was looking forward to Tosca based on the reviews. The service was the best part. The staff were amazing. The food was not. Salad was soaked in too much dressing, other apps felt thrown together without thought or good combination. The couple next to me complained that they did not like their pastas and they had no flavor. It was also terribly loud. I would go back and try again for a business meal because the service was so good, and it is worth another try, but it is not food for a special occasion.

    Had a small group of 5 together for my wife's birthday. Every detail was attended to. Food was great. As I was leaving, I noticed that the manager was behind the bar sipping a taste from a small cask. I asked if this was a cask of Boulevardier and the bartender said it was. We got into a chat about doing this at home and both of them gave me encouragement and tips. While we were talking the bartender poured me a taste. Nice gesture and I will be back soon to pick up the discussion.

    Waiter immediately pushed us to order a bottle of wine and when I said I don’t drink, he immediately acted as if I no longer existed. My wife ordered a martini and after that he walked away without asking if I wanted anything else to drink. Pushed their “specialty” focaccia rolls for $2 per roll which turned out to be a tasteless piece of bread with a cherry tomato in the center. We ordered salads that had Four leaves of lettuce on top of wilted greens and it was supposed to have a dressing but I couldn’t find it. I also ordered the Bronzino which turned out to be a 4” by 4” overcooked piece of tastelessness on top of pea purée that made it even more bland. When I complained the waiter became overtly defensive as said, “but what about the plating?” It was the worst restaurant experience I’ve ever had in my life. Don’t go!

    The food and the service was very good. The portions were a little on the small side but with salad, entree and dessert, we still left feeling full. I had the branzino which was excellent and cooked perfectly. My husband had the duck pasta special. Both were excellent. Mine stated it with came with baby zucchini. There were only 2 tiny pieces so if you want vegetables, then order a side. The one complaint we had was that you had to pay $2 per piece of bread. With the prices of the drinks ($20 glass of wine) and entrees ($40-50), you would think bread would be complimentary. This left us feeling a little nickeled and dimed considering we paid $200 for our meal before tip.

    We wanted a romantic dinner And it was very nice. The service was outstanding. The bar area was packed and very noisy. Thankfully it didn’t disturb where we were seated. Can’t say enough about the quality of the food and service. Will definitely return.
