Our friends, my wife, and I went to Townhouse for an early dinner before the opera lecture and opera on March 14. Our table was reserved for us right in the middle of the dining area. While the menu was not extensive, there were a variety of choices for each of us. My wife was happy that the jambalaya was gluten free and I was happy with the steak salad preceded by the vegetable soup. The service got us out in time for the opera lecture with time to spare. The atmosphere was upbeat but not too noisy. We had a great time.
close to the Lyric Opera, fast, good service, good food, good experience. Better than most other restaurants close to the Lyric.
The service was great! The waiter was super nice and since I wasn't sure what to order he gave me some great suggestions that turned into a great meal. The only negative to this place is that it's super loud... It's nice after 1 pm when the crowd has died down a little. Had lunch at noon at it was very busy therefore very loud. Other than that... it was a great experience.
Loved everything about it. The salmon burger was delicious and the ambiance really nice, it was very quiet since it was a Monday. A nice spot for dinner after work.
We have been unable to celebrate Valentine’s Day with each other and we decided to do it that night. I was very disappointed with the service.
Always a great time. Love these folks.
Freezing cold and slow service, even though it wasn't busy.
Its one of the few restaurants in the area. Staff were amazing and hard working and saved the night. The room is all glass and it was FREEZING in the restaurant...heater just blew cold air- people were drinking coffee to warm up
Food was presented well but really did not have a lot of flavor or substance ( my fish was served on instant rice) OK place to go for a happy hour-
Love the food here! My only compliant is that it is pretty cold inside in the winter.
Crazy stupid Cold...Most people wore their coats.
Food Terrific...Service Terrific...
Crazy stupid loud...very hard to hear a conversation.
Food was good. Drinks were ok. It's an open concept so kind of noisy if you want to have a conversation.
Lunch noise level was super loud--not ideal for business discussions.
The restaurant is loud
Great for happy hour or a lunch - but get there early because this place is popular with the S Wacker Drive office spaces.
It felt just a little crowded. The table next to us was practically eating lunch with us!
Very nice lunch place! Great location and super service.
Reasonable quality food at downtown prices. The noise level is excessive. There is absolutely no privacy and you will find yourself having to raise your voice or yell across the table to have a conversation.
I was impressed with the variety in the menu offerings and the service.
Great restaurant. Service was perfect and food delicious. Open, bright and noise level was good so to be able to have a business discussion.
Great lunch at Townhouse. Our server was attentive and pleasant. Food is regularly good -have never had a bad dish. It is a go-to for work lunches and after-work drinks. Wine list is small but has nice options and pricing consistent with the loop. Staff and management seem to stay consistent too- always familiar faces there and welcoming place.
Townhouse is a go-to for business lunches. The portions are a good size, the food is good - it isn't great; but, it's never been "bad". It's always really cold inside though, the noise level is very high, the chairs were wobbly, and the service too a while.
Felt like an icebox in there. Very uncomfortable - everybody wearing jackets.
I had a client lunch meeting here this week, and I'll definitely be back. Service was quick. Food was delicious. And we were able to hear each other talk easily.
We went to Townhouse on the coldest day of the year and it was around 50 degrees inside the restaurant.
The restaurant was FREEZING. To be expected I guess for a place that has an entire wall of windows in the middle of Chicago winter. If you like eating with your coat and gloves on this is the place for you! Even the staff walks around with their coats on.
I got the asian chicken salad, not great. The chicken tasted as if it was fried in the same oil as old fish sticks, and there was a two pieces of black hair baked into the chicken breading. Gross.
Great spot for a work lunch.
Server was great. Restaurant was loud though. Hard to hold a conversation. Food was good. Pricing was commensurate with quality. Would return.
The waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly, making my reservation was easy and there wasn't a wait.
We are thre before Lyric Opera. Traffic was terrible so we were late. We told our server. She and the whold stqff were so helpful to get us our food and drinks quickly and process our check early. Great service.
Food was below average. Ordered the kale salad. Was served iceberg...they were out of kale and they didnt tell us or the server. Cuban sandwich was tasteless.
We went to Townhouse Chicago before a Lyric Opera performance. It is very close to the Civic Opera House, the food and service were prompt (important with 7 pm starting times this year), and though somewhat on the noisy side, we could still have a conversation.
I eat here occasionally, as it is next door to my building and there is a dearth of business lunch spots in the vicinity. Food is always good. The issue is that the seating is cramped and the acoustics are bad. Way too loud.
Great happy hour specials. Our server (Dionne, I believe) was efficient and friendly. The busser was quick to fill our water glasses or remove dirty dishes. I will definitely be back.
The food was excellent!
Always great food, cocktails, and service at Townhouse! It's definitely one of my lunch go-tos with coworkers.
Love these guys!
This restaurant has always been a good choice for before the opera. I miss some of my favorites like bacon jam and carrot purée but the new additions are satisfying and well prepared. My only complaint is that the room is so dark and the oil used to light the table had an unpleasant petroleum oder. However the chocolate cake made up for any small difficulties.
We will be back.
There are no words for how poor the service and food were. No need to return.
Pleasant and convenient restaurant and bar near Union Station. Wonderful appetizers. Great service. A bit pricey.
I have been to Townhouse many times and always come away pleased with the food and service. This time, there was an issue with the heat and it was very cold throughout the restaurant, which made the experience uncomfortable.
