Trattoria Giancarlo is located in Toronto’s Little Italy, and it has been serving the area’s customers with fantastic and authentic Italian food for more than 30 years now. The restaurant has a wealth of options available for those who want to try some upscale fare.
Chef Jason Barato works hard to ensure the menu for Trattoria Giancarlo is full of delicious food. Some of the popular options include the carpaccio and prosciutto for appetizers. The ravioli, risotto and gnocchi are just some of the dinner items to try. When looking for fine dining, you will want to put Trattoria Giancarlo on your list.
Food excellent, service friendly and competent. Great evening.
FOOD ie veal chops were very tough almost inedible
We came for the Carpaccio and it didn’t disappoint!! The ‘shopping’ for the wine was a novel and fun experience. Medium rare duck breast was the best ever, one of the pasta dishes was the best ever also. The noise level was rather high but somewhat enjoyed as it meant everyone was having a good time!! We would recommend. It was not our first visit and hopefully will not be our last.
Lovely meal. We had the duck and ravioli and the carpaccio to start. Great wines.
I’ve been to Giancarlo several times now and the incredible food keeps bringing me back. The carpaccio is super fresh and delicious, and all their pastas are rich and flavourful.
The one complaint my table had was about our waiter. He was weirdly touchy with us (kept touching our shoulders) and when my (clearly) pregnant friend asked if there was alcohol in her dessert, he assured her it “wasn’t that much and she’d be fine”. The menu didn’t state there was Prosecco in this dessert. As a result we didn’t give a super generous tip and after that he started acting rude and took 10 minutes to grab our jackets on our way out. Put a bit of a damper on the meal/restaurant but I will go back hoping I don’t get served by that waiter again.
We loved our visit to Trattoria Giancarlo and would definitely recommend it to others!! The only somewhat negative thing we can say is that we were surprised to be charged $4 for bread. Bread is usually always complimentary at most restaurants so it was surprising to have to order it and be charged for it.
As always. AMAZING.
It was for an Anniversary dinner and they didn’t disappoint!! I would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone!! The ambience and the food were amazing!! Would definitely come again!!
Classic Italian using only the freshest ingredients. Great wine selection and friendly professional service. A neighborhood classic for decades.
This is an amazing little restaurant with exceptional food and a great atmosphere in Little Italy. Was a great find for a first visit and will definitely return. The Lemon Cheesecake was a great way to top off the meal.
William was great! We were treated very well even though it was our first time in. We will be back and will bring friends and family with us! Thank you for a very nice evening
It was our 25th Wedding Anniversary, we have been coming to Giancarlo for many years .
The Food was Amazing the Wine selection was excellent.
Unfortunately we felt a little rushed ( no one was waiting for the table) @ the end
And most disappointing the Maître was short with us, he could not care less it was a Very Special Occasion for us.
Really miss Tony he made all patrons feel special especially for a milestone.
We came away not really feeling great by the whole experience.
Delicious. Will definitely be back
Go! No, really, Go! Stop reading this and Go! It’s not good, it’s incredible. Not only is it incredible but it’s been incredible for YEARS!!! I still don’t understand why you’re still reading this and haven’t gone to make a reservation. GO!!!!!
If the service matched the food, this place would be in my top 10 favourite in Toronto. The only person who was remotely polite and showed any kind of care was the man who greeted us and said good bye as we left. I’m going to give the restaurant a call to discuss further - it could have just been this one server but it tainted the entire experience for me and the person I was with.
Consistently good with very fresh & tasty ingredients. Wine, appetizers eye-wateringly expensive. No need to RIP OFF patrons with $12 bruschetta that turned out to be salted toasted French bread with olives! Or $15 a glass for wine. Service was snooty and lacklustre. But mains outstanding and a nice patio so worth the aggravation. Generally dislike an establishment where staff work hard to make patrons feel as if THEY are doing you the favour of serving you. Due to super high cost - this is a “special event” establishment only.
Food has gone down hill and is terribly overpriced
Outstanding as usual. Food to die for. Our favourite place in Toronto.
Consistently among the best restaurants in the city for its cuisine
The server was rude and seemed extremely annoyed.
He was not welcoming by any means.
The best place in the city!! Beautiful place, great atmosphere. Can wait to go back!!
I had a lovely birthday dinner at Giancarlo! Thank you to the kind staff :) The lobster pasta and chocolate cake were delicious!
Nice night but the pasta came a little too quickly after ordering. It was par boiled and finished off, making the pasta somewhat gummy. This place should be about SLO-food.
I asked for a table outside and was turned down - even though it was empty and remained underpopulated all the time I was there. Food was so-so and the wine was overpriced. I won't be coming back.
My favourite restaurant, best carpaccio I've ever had!!
Great patio. Unlike most in Toronto, must be Prebooked! (News to me).
Food and wine very nice. Old school Italian. Great lamb and veal chop
We've been to Giancarlo several times before, but the food just wasn't as good as previous visits, in particular the tiramisu
Pasta was stoggy and inedible and ordered by 2 of the guests. The waiter graciously accepted us returning it then we had to watch an altercation between him and the manager. Then deal with sarcasm from the manager. One guest ordered the replacement pasta as is. Marginally better but poor. Chef and owner seem to have changed been going for 20 yrs.
Service was a bit slow and items were missed or forgotten. However, the server provided a free drink to compensate and the fabulous food definitely made up for it.
We were underwhelmed with the restaurant. The food and the service was good but compare to other restaurants in the same price range Giancarlo didn’t compare. We will not return.
Food good but expensive for pasta and wine.
This restaurant used to be good. It is past its prime. Our waiter was not interested in serving us and was outright rude by the end of the meal. There was 6 of us at dinner and none of us will go back.
One of my favourite restaurants in the city!!!!
The beef carpaccio melts in your mouth.
I always look forward to my next visit
Lamb asked for medium was close to well done
Tiramisu way too heavy. Far away from a real Italian one.
The food was just plain terrible. Haven’t had a meal so bad in a long time. Food was over cooked, undercooked and all sopping in oil. We sent back the fish which was rubbery but it was all bad. The restaurant must be under new management or have a new “chef”. We won’t be back.
We come here anytime we are in Toronto. I am never disappointed!!
If you love classic Italian cuisine, a fantastic range of wines, and great, personable service - this will be your go-to place for a truly exceptional evening. Giancarlo has been at the very top of my list for over a decade.
