Trattoria Giancarlo is located in Toronto’s Little Italy, and it has been serving the area’s customers with fantastic and authentic Italian food for more than 30 years now. The restaurant has a wealth of options available for those who want to try some upscale fare.
Chef Jason Barato works hard to ensure the menu for Trattoria Giancarlo is full of delicious food. Some of the popular options include the carpaccio and prosciutto for appetizers. The ravioli, risotto and gnocchi are just some of the dinner items to try. When looking for fine dining, you will want to put Trattoria Giancarlo on your list.
We threw a last minute change at them when we arrived and they did not skip a beat in helping us out even though the restaurant was very busy.
Still one of my all time favourite s anywhere!
Outstanding food and ambiance!
Wonderful experience. Staff were so pleasant, lighthearted and professional. Food was amazing. Definitely going back!
Absolutely the best Italian spot in the city. From the service to the food to the wine, everything was flawless.
Great place with great food! However, the menu should be updated to reflect proper prices. There were some discrepancies on the bill and menu prices.
Amazing as always. The wine the food the atmosphere....
I've lived in Toronto for a long time and finally made it to Giancarlo. It was amazing!! The top notch service and deliciousness of food was next level. Perfect place for a special occasion or when you want a classic Italian dining experience. Thanks for a memorable evening. Grazie Mille!
The first meal in 30 years that was Not at all enjoyable. Food over cooked. Service rushed. Noise unbearable. Will not return.
I've been coming here for years. The food and service has always been exceptional.
Consistently excellent food and service. The chocolate cake with salted caramel sauce is a must for dessert.
Food was incredible !!!! Haven’t been in years and now I can’t wait to go back .. the food is soo delicious
Giancarlo’s is an exquisite little Italian trattoria that I have dined at for 25 years and keep regularly going back - likely the best in Toronto. The veal chop is excellent + any order any plate of mixed pasta or antipasto of menu + get ready for a treat. The service is very attentive and highly professional. Legitimate 5 Full Stars!
Excellent food and remarkable service. Food is fresh and authentic Italian.
I would recommend you get liquored up, so you and your party can be up there with the loudest patrons. It does get quite loud in there. Not a place for quiet or romantic convos. Borderline rowdy really. Appies were nice. Some of the sauces that accompanied seafood were salty. Staff offered Limoncello and stated it was made in house, later on came to find from staff it was actually store bought when served. Benches comfy, chairs sat quite low in comparison. Bathrooms were clean, located downstairs. I would try it again. If the next experience was any less... I wouldn't need to go back.
Always a great experience. High level of food quality and service. Love the option of perusing the wine and hand picking your own bottle. A go to for classic yet refined Italian dishes.
My girlfriend and I were a little skeptical upon looking at the pictures via the website. It’s a little confusing getting there as it is on the corner of an intersection but not quite. The way to get in the restaurant is right by the kitchen. To me that was pretty weird at first but it’s pretty smart. Place was really chic a nice ambiance and really good food. I wish they served bread with their pasta but it was good enough to disregard that. So good my girlfriend and I went there twice during our visit To Toronto! Hope they remember me next time I do come!
Service and food was subpar. Not good value.
Host was rude
Great food and service overall, would highly recommend
Honestly, I believe I have traveled a decent amount, probably to too many cities for one to name to say the least, including around North America like (New York, Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, etc) and parts of Europe and their cities including countries like Italy, Germany, France, Neatherlands, Ireland, England, Spain, Scotland, etc. There is not a single doubt in my mind question that this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in my 30 year life. I would say I almost never write reviews, in general, but this particular restaurant was worth my time.
From start to finish our meal was delicious, and Andy, our friendly & attentive server went beyond the extra mile to ensure we had a wonderful dining experience .
This place was highly recommended to us and it absolutely delivered.
From the moment we walked through the door, the staff was welcoming and friendly even though it was very busy.
Our server was knowledgeable and happy to make recommendations, the food was awesome, and we had lots of fun. We would love to go back :).
It was only fitting that we'd return to this lovely restaurant to celebrate my son Giancarlo's 30th birthday, as we had named him after it that many years ago! What a lovely meal, ambience and service we experienced to mark the occasion! Thank you for creating another memorable experience for my family! The lemon tagliatelle was divine!!!
Excelente servicio y comida
We had a great night out at Giancarlo. The food was out of this world and the staff were knowledgeable and friendly. We can’t wait to go back.
Great Italian restaurant!!! Lovely night with my wife and daughter!!!
Enjoyed dining with friends. We opted to dine inside because it was a hot day and the patio would be full of noise from people talking. The inside was somewhat quiet. The food was ok. Appetizers were not of good value. I could of easily made them so not very authentic. Pasta dishes were better, howevever, they did not offer a charge for meat should you want that with your pasta. There we,re no Lady fingers in the Tiramisu. The cheapest wine we could find and liked was over $75.00. Overall the meal was pricey compared to better authentic Italian Restaurants.
The staff is super friendly. I went here with a friend and we overstayed our visit but never felt rushed to leave. We started off with a shared bruschetta (no tomatoes) which was quite nice and also a shared green salad with local ingredients. The dressing was very tasty. Loved it. I then ordered the ravioli and they were beyond delicious. My friend ordered the linguini aglio e olio and he said they were appetizing and flavorful. I would definitely recommend this quaint restaurant. ❤
Great service, reasonable wine and the food is always delicious...especially the carpaccio!
We live in North York. My friend told me this was the best Italian restaurant in all of Toronto. And after spending the last three weeks in Italy I was craving truly excellent Italian food. The food was excellent. For starters we had the fungi and carpaccio. As a main we had the fish and bietola. The fish was so fresh and the pasta was delicious. I felt like I was back in Italy (except for the fact that our waiter spoke perfect English with no Italian accent). The sommelier paired us with a fabulous wine. And all I can say is that it was worth the drive!
Great service + delicious food + great ambience in Little Italy = Giancarlo Trattoria
Bland, uninspired 'special' appetizers ( the tomatoes with ricotta cheese was almost inedible and a corn dish that looked like it was plated by a three year old) together with massively overcooked pasta as a main had us scratching our heads at what used to be one of the best restaurants in the city. Their traditionally delicious Pasta Parma was what beckoned us to dine from past trips - but it was served on terribly overcooked papparadelle noodles which ruined the dish. We should have sent it back. We might have felt a bit better if the service had been decent. With the sole exception of the wine sommelier, the service was arrogant, uninterested in us as customers, and slow. We used to love it here.
The olives were over salted. Way way over salted.
Everything else was perfect.
Quiet night inside for a Friday.
Still my favourite restaurant in Toronto.
Fabulous and yummy. It was rainy so we couldn’t sit on the patio. Next time!!
Have been there a few times. Food was ok but presentation lacked imagination
One of the very best restaurants in the province. Spectacular and consistent in every way for the 15 years I’ve been dining here.
On arrival we were able to eat on their patio!
The Veal chop is outstanding and was ordered by 3 out of four of us. Do not miss their HOT MOLTEN CHOCOLATE CAKE WITH SALTED CARMEL SAUCE! It was the best
dessert we ever had. The service was average, but the other staffers rounded out the rest. Would highly recommend Trattoria Giancarlo is was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all! Cantor’s/ Bernstein’s
Food was very tasteful and outdoor patio was great.
I went to this restaurant for my wedding anniversary after researching it online. I filled out the reservation with seating preference and that it was my wedding anniversary, but neither were recognized.
The food was average (not 4.6 star rating worthy), and took an extremely long time to come out. Our waiter looked at my empty wine glass at least twice and never offered to refill until right before we asked for our check.
For specifics, the tomato soup with a poched egg was good, the bruchetta was essentially garlic bread, the artichoke heart was mostly cheese, our main courses were brought out at room temperature.
