Really great food options with "low cal" food and beverages that tasted wonderful. My scallops were perfectly cooked and the seafood pasta looked wonderful with giant shrimp. Our server was AMAZING. Super friendly and helpful. Cool atmosphere, laid back but still high end food. Overall great experience.
7/19/2018: I always love the Triple Nickel as they have great food, great service, and a charming ambience. I especially love that they have some lower calorie options, and I am always surprised by how flavorful those options are. Our server was excellent, and there was an excellent duo of live musicians and a singer that started to play near the end of our meal. Only sorry that we didn’t get to hear more of them as they were outstanding. The manager checked in, which is always a nice touch. Noise level has been my only complaint in the past, but tonight noise was much better as we were in a smaller section separated from the main room and it was delightful!
Great service. Consistently good food.
An enjoyable evening with great food and a pleasant experience. Already have plans to bring along some friends in two weeks.
Had reservations for 7:15pm and arrived at 7:05pm. Stood at host desk for a few minutes and was asked if we would prefer a booth or a high top. The host then said if we wanted a booth she would have to ask the people sitting in it to move. I am assuming they were associates that worked there. Once we got seated we waited 10+ minutes to get water and give our drink order. We asked the server what was on draft and my companion made a selection. The waitress then came back and said they did not have that beer and suggested another one. We agreed on that suggestion and then the server came back and stated she did not have that beer either. It took approximately +15 minutes to get our drinks. I could understand the wait if the location was busy but it wasn’t. The food was good and my date requested that her remaining food be wrapped up. The server took the food and then came back 5 minutes later stating that they accidentally threw it out. She said that she would have the kitchen make a small plate of fish, rice and green beans. We agreed but when she came back she provided a box with a small piece of fish and she said they could not replace the sides. The server was inefficient and very hard to understand. I was under the impression she was either tired, Ill or there was another contributing factor for the poor service we received. I would hesitate going back and could not recommend this restaurant to a friend or family member.
Amazing food. The pasta primavera was delicious and awesome
Food was exceptional. Bar selection was really good. Waiter was lacking, but the owners and bartender more than made up for it.
Triple Nickel is consistently excellent. Fish entrees are always well prepared. The cashew crusted walleye is a favorite, as are the perch. We often have Calmari as an appetizer, and it's usually right on. This time we went for the smoked whitefish spread. It was superb. At least as good as what I've had at Fishtown in Leland.
I cannot say how disappointed I am in my experience tonight at Triple Nickel. I live in the area and had family coming into town this weekend, and since we were a large party (13) I knew I could depend on Triple Nickel for a reservation with good food and a fun experience. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed for choosing this location for tonight. It wasn’t a completely bad experience, but some weird things happened:
Everything started out fine, but when we went to order one of us ordered scallops and the waitress asked how she wanted the scallops prepared. To my knowledge, scallops should not be prepared rare, etc. and should be cooked all the way through, so this was unexpected. My cousin didn’t know what to say so just said medium. Even if the waitress had gone back into the kitchen and said she wanted the scallops prepared medium, the chef should have known better. My cousin later got sick.
There were a few other minor food issues- one of the pasta dishes was very bland, another cousin ordered chicken for her salad and didn’t receive it, and my steak was over cooked. A few of us also felt that for what we received, the meals were overpriced. Again, minor issues, but these still make a difference in the overall experience.
The entire time we were dining, the area we were in was uncomfortably warm-to the point where the majority of us couldn’t finish eating because we were so warm. One of us asked if we could turn the air on but nothing was done.
Also, the waitress boxed up all of the meals we wanted to take home as leftovers, except for two. For those two she brought boxes out and had the two people box up the meals themselves. They didn’t mind, but they did think it was weird.
Again, overall this wasn’t a horrible night, but after the way I had talked up Triple Nickel I was so disappointed in how the night went. Ive been to this restaurant many many times and expected a much better experience, and would be hesitant to bring guests back here again.
Went here to celebrate a birthday. Great food, service and atmosphere. Just the right level of noise and crowds.
The food was good, the service was good. Sat outside.
We were able to be seated outdoors. Service was excellent and food was tasty.
Being outside allowed us to see friends walking around Birmingham and chat with them.
We had a nice evening, three of the 4 meals were very good, one meal was just OK.
The shrimp salad had a lot of shrimp, very good.
The chicken stir fry had very little chicken, and very little flavor.
Parking is difficult with meters for only 1 hour and the parking deck that will run you over 10 dollars for an evening.
Nice spot with great views.
Dependable as always...good food and good service
Amazing anniversary dinner! Excellent service from all members of the staff. Probably the best food we have had in Birmingham. Would definitely come back anytime!
This was our first time at Triple Nickel, and I have to say that I was very underwhelmed. Service was ok; our server wasn’t around when we were looking for her, and she left dirty plates and glasses on our table even after she dropped new items off. The food was mediocre... I was really unimpressed with both mine and my husband’s entree. Our desserts were better than our entrees, but my husband’s dessert was so frozen that he had to work at getting into it. My apple pie a la mode was the best part of the meal. Overall, meh. I don’t think I’ll be going back anytime soon.
Was a "Girls Get Together" and we sat outside as the weather was lovely and we in the shade for most of our meal. Mimosas rocked! And props to our waiter, Ryan! What a wonderful server! He had a great sense of humor and was prompt with his service. Great guy! Next time I'm at Triple Nickel, I will ask to be seated in his section!
Food was good, atmosphere was great. It felt as we were on vacation.
Had an issue opening up the table but the waitress and General Manager were Great
Had been to Triple Nickel with friends for dinner before and enjoyed it, so went for Mother's Day brunch. We had a group of 8 and were seated upstairs which was great! What a nice room and set-up. The food was excellent, and the service was fine. Some service staff was excellent while others were just ok. My only complaint is that they didn't seat until exactly 12:30, and the lobby and front of the restaurant got very crowded and it was difficult for some of the elderly folks who showed up a little early to stand that long. Anyway, our Mothers want to go back there again next year they enjoyed it so much!
Sat upstairs, great staff
We really enjoyed our first visit to Triple Nickel. Our server was excellent and had good recommendations. The food was very good. Love the ambience and the potential to open those big front windows or sit outside is very appealing to us.
Over all another enjoyable meal
I will definitely return there
Food was okay. We were a party of 5 ppl. Will not return. Overpriced menu, undercooked food
Never feel like the restaurant is clean. The chairs are dusty and while some meals were better than others , overall the food was average at best.
We have been to Triple Nickel many times. I use Open Table to "guarantee" a quiet table, of which there are only a few, and my request had been granted up until this visit. The hostess didn't look at the reservation details, aparently, as she went to seat us in a noisy part of the restaurant. The area I had asked for ---- over to one side in a "wing", was unavailable, as there was a party of 8 or so in there - I could see that as we walked to the hostess desk. So she pointed to another small area in the front. There was another party of four in there and the other table was vacant, so we took it. Turns out the conversation echoes in that area were very distracting. The food was still good and the waitress, once she saw us, was attentive.
Great find...everyone liked their meal. The service was attentive and easy going.
Great. Will be back often. Loved menu selections. Keep up good work.
It was our 1st time and we liked the place. The food was very good. Their ribs were very good, meaty, moist, falls off of the bone. It has a very nice atmosphere we will be coming back.
The food was good. Thought the wine prices were high. Overall a nice evening.
This is a great place with excellent food & super service.
Decent price for food. Drinks were not good at all and over priced.
Surprisingly good. Loved my perch. Close and convenient. Parking is easy if you use the garage which has a bridge into the restaurant.
Returned 10 days later for a mid-week meal and ordered same meal and it was disappointing. Completely different experience. We won’t be returning.
Food was great, but being a busy Saturday night the bar was packed so service was a little slow. We had a great meal and will definitely be back
This is a good place for a convenient bite after an evening movie.
This restaurant is our family go to. There’s a wide variety of menu options. Plus we like the reduced calorie section of the menu. The specials are consistently good. The servers are friendly and outgoing. Easy place to dine, tasty options, and not a lot of fuss. We will return.
