We liked everything about the Triple Nickel. Food good, service good, drinks good and prices very reasonable especially for Bham.
First time visit- will definitely go back! Menu had so many choices it was hard to decide! Looking forward to go back for date night!
Poor service. After we finished eating we noticed that other tables were given breadsticks with a flavored butter. We didn't receive anything. I asked our waitress about it and she said I had to ASK for it. If it's the 1st time we've ever eaten here, how would I know to ask for the breadsticks? Small portions - we actually went home and ate something because we were still hungry. Not worth going to.
Great night. Awesome restaurant. Only issue was it was homecoming night so way too many kids that I had to hear. LOL
Service at the bar was awesome and he warned us for what was coming our way. Still had a great time and will be back again and again
Expensive for what you get. $12 for a burger but an extra $4 if you want fries? Ended up getting the special which was ok. Nice ambiance if you want a quick drink and an appetizer.
Went for dinner with a gal pal and enjoyed a set of the jazz trio - great place - we will go definitely go back!
Great place for a quick lunch.Decent food and good service.
Good food, good location, great waitress however the hostess would not allow us a booth we requested indicating is was for a reservation which is exactly what we had.
My first experience here was a Mother's Day Brunch. It was awful. I avoided the place after that for obvious reasons. However, enough time had passed, and I was tired of the same old routine, so we ventured in for dinner. I am glad I did. I felt the menu selection was great, the atmosphere cozy, energetic and friendly, and the food good. I will be back. Our appetizers (firecracker shrimp and the Italian sausage) were both very good. Our entree's (perch and their house specialty ribs) were both very good as well. If you haven't been, I think you will be happy.
Triple Nickel has fun bar/restaurant scene. It’s always hopping with an eclectic crowd. Downstairs, the bar restaurant area is all dark wood with casual seating and a large bar area. Upstairs is more formalized dining with table cloths and finer accoutrements. The menu is excellent with for something for everyone. Vegans can enjoy a good salad or a quinoa burger. The triple nickel is a seafood lovers paradise: ahi tuna appetizer, chilean sea bass, walleye, fresh lake perch and a variety of other seafood options. Meat lovers can have a buffalo burger, New York strip steak, fillet mignon, Lamb chops, etc. There are also a wide variety of pasta lovers dishes as well. A fun place with great food and excellent service.
I like Triple Nickel’s service, the old bar atmosphere and the menu. In two visits my friends, my wife and I have had the chicken caprese, the petite filet mignon, fish and chips, the half-pound burger, boom boom shrimp, and calamari. Everything was good. While none of the dishes created a spiritual awakening or a gustatory boogie-woogie, each item was just what it claimed to be and was cooked appropriately.
(Full disclosure: My wife thought the boom boom shrimp was inferior to the same dish at Bonefish Grill, but she has a very sore leg. I actually preferred the slightly less sugary Triple Nickel version).
Above all, I like the inclusiveness of the menu here. I’d need many visits before I found it boring or repetitive. We tend toward traditional dishes, but the restaurant also serves slightly iconoclastic items like buffalo burger and buffalo meatballs, Indian chili, seared ahi tuna, baked brie, and smoked whitefish spread. There’s also a low-cal menu that looks surprisingly appealing.
Lovely evening of delicious food and a jazz quartet of fantastic talent.
It's a great neighborhood spot for lunch or a casual dinner. The food is always good. The noise level is beyond loud. Conversation is impossible.
Food was inedible. Service was subpar. Would not recommend.
Great service. My fish special was extremely salty. Rice and Brussels not very good.
Nice casual downtown eating option that is reasonably priced.
over crowed on sat night..possibly due to dream cruise
Hostess was taking us to our table(over looking the dream cruise) and a friend of the other hostess sent this group of 4 to our table and they stole our table;our hostess questioned the customers who were not accompanied by anyone, sat in our seats and said that so and so said we could sit here; my children -disappointed had to go back down stairs-wait 5 minutes and then be seated; then our waitress comes And takes our order via memory and screws that up of course and comes back to us continuously asking us what we had; frustrating experience with no consideration ;while the food being average at best;
Food and drinks are always great here. I celebrated a special event and they ensured my party and I were completely satisfied!
Great evening at the Triple Nickel! We had a group of 7, and we all had a fabulous time. Super server, great food and perfect table - and the final bill was very reasonable . Their customer service is top notch. The manager even called earlier in the day to warn of a seating change due to the weather (e.g. the open air dining air was to close because of rain) and our modified reservation was even better than the original plan. I live in the area and have been meaning to try the place since it opened. Sorry I waited so long.
My only complaint is that we had to access the upstairs by going through the kitchen area. Not the most pleasant experience. Hoping the restaurant can find a better way to begin and end the experience.
They have a nice variety of menu selections and specials. The food was good, the serving size was nice and the price was just right
Super friendly and attentive staff. Menu was limited for brunch but every item was delicious.
Enjoyed brunch al fresco, warm welcome & capable server Hunter ... 555 parking deck should be NO charge to guests
I ordered the sea bass. It was the smallest piece of fish I’ve ever seen. Also the menu specified 2 sides and it came with 2 that were not indicated. This was not a cheap meal for what I received. On a positive note, the waitress was attentive.
The food was reasonably priced and tasted good! Service was very attentive. Would come here again.
Triple Nickel has the best clam chowder in Metro Detroit!
Me and my wife are locals and passed by Tripke Nickel multiple times. We never realized it was such a cool little place. What a great time at the top bar with the staff. I would personally recommend it highly if you haven't tried it. Thanks again Triple Nickel. Alan & Bianca
I Ordered the Walleye but found bones in every bite. Obviously wasn’t filleted. Our waitress was very apologetic though and proceeded to take the meal off the bill. My husband and I were ‘very’ surprised, however, that the manager never came over to our table!
Wonderful! John, Jessie and Hunter were amazing! Thank you for a lovely evening!
Really great food options with "low cal" food and beverages that tasted wonderful. My scallops were perfectly cooked and the seafood pasta looked wonderful with giant shrimp. Our server was AMAZING. Super friendly and helpful. Cool atmosphere, laid back but still high end food. Overall great experience.
7/19/2018: I always love the Triple Nickel as they have great food, great service, and a charming ambience. I especially love that they have some lower calorie options, and I am always surprised by how flavorful those options are. Our server was excellent, and there was an excellent duo of live musicians and a singer that started to play near the end of our meal. Only sorry that we didn’t get to hear more of them as they were outstanding. The manager checked in, which is always a nice touch. Noise level has been my only complaint in the past, but tonight noise was much better as we were in a smaller section separated from the main room and it was delightful!
Great service. Consistently good food.
An enjoyable evening with great food and a pleasant experience. Already have plans to bring along some friends in two weeks.
Had reservations for 7:15pm and arrived at 7:05pm. Stood at host desk for a few minutes and was asked if we would prefer a booth or a high top. The host then said if we wanted a booth she would have to ask the people sitting in it to move. I am assuming they were associates that worked there. Once we got seated we waited 10+ minutes to get water and give our drink order. We asked the server what was on draft and my companion made a selection. The waitress then came back and said they did not have that beer and suggested another one. We agreed on that suggestion and then the server came back and stated she did not have that beer either. It took approximately +15 minutes to get our drinks. I could understand the wait if the location was busy but it wasn’t. The food was good and my date requested that her remaining food be wrapped up. The server took the food and then came back 5 minutes later stating that they accidentally threw it out. She said that she would have the kitchen make a small plate of fish, rice and green beans. We agreed but when she came back she provided a box with a small piece of fish and she said they could not replace the sides. The server was inefficient and very hard to understand. I was under the impression she was either tired, Ill or there was another contributing factor for the poor service we received. I would hesitate going back and could not recommend this restaurant to a friend or family member.
Amazing food. The pasta primavera was delicious and awesome
Food was exceptional. Bar selection was really good. Waiter was lacking, but the owners and bartender more than made up for it.
Triple Nickel is consistently excellent. Fish entrees are always well prepared. The cashew crusted walleye is a favorite, as are the perch. We often have Calmari as an appetizer, and it's usually right on. This time we went for the smoked whitefish spread. It was superb. At least as good as what I've had at Fishtown in Leland.
I cannot say how disappointed I am in my experience tonight at Triple Nickel. I live in the area and had family coming into town this weekend, and since we were a large party (13) I knew I could depend on Triple Nickel for a reservation with good food and a fun experience. Instead, I left feeling embarrassed for choosing this location for tonight. It wasn’t a completely bad experience, but some weird things happened:
Everything started out fine, but when we went to order one of us ordered scallops and the waitress asked how she wanted the scallops prepared. To my knowledge, scallops should not be prepared rare, etc. and should be cooked all the way through, so this was unexpected. My cousin didn’t know what to say so just said medium. Even if the waitress had gone back into the kitchen and said she wanted the scallops prepared medium, the chef should have known better. My cousin later got sick.
There were a few other minor food issues- one of the pasta dishes was very bland, another cousin ordered chicken for her salad and didn’t receive it, and my steak was over cooked. A few of us also felt that for what we received, the meals were overpriced. Again, minor issues, but these still make a difference in the overall experience.
The entire time we were dining, the area we were in was uncomfortably warm-to the point where the majority of us couldn’t finish eating because we were so warm. One of us asked if we could turn the air on but nothing was done.
Also, the waitress boxed up all of the meals we wanted to take home as leftovers, except for two. For those two she brought boxes out and had the two people box up the meals themselves. They didn’t mind, but they did think it was weird.
Again, overall this wasn’t a horrible night, but after the way I had talked up Triple Nickel I was so disappointed in how the night went. Ive been to this restaurant many many times and expected a much better experience, and would be hesitant to bring guests back here again.
