Tucked beneath the iconic Walper Hotel, our attentive and neighbourly staff welcome you to enjoy local ingredients done well, with a thoughtfully sourced menu focused on sustainability and diversity.
After reserving the spot for just us 2 when we arrived we were seated & table about 15 ft away was a larger table of 8 ladies that where just too loud. So when to hostess and asked for another table and he said well there is another section but that is just as loud, if not even louder.
You are telling me when you make reservations for 2 people you can’t plan the fact that we can’t have a place anywhere in the restaurant that you can’t even hear each other talk.
Not impressed. And neither were any of the other tables of 2 or 4. They probably just review on open table.
I would like to say, the Ambiance of the social was amazing, the food was amazing, the look of the bar, 1st rate!!!
What I did not appreciate, and was completely, taken away by, was:
I made a reservation, I verified on and confirmed with the hostess that took my reservation that ALL Canadian white wines were half price on Wednesday after 4.
The hostess also even told me, that she would see to it, that my reservation was noted to this effect.
And that we would receive the 13TH STREET VIOGNIER 2016
Niagara, Canada for the Wednesday half price special.
But, when I mentioned this to our male server, he told me that the hostess was just a waitress, and did not know what she was talking about ! And your restaurant only does half price on your more expensive bottles of wine, that is not what your website states.
I did get the information off of YOUR website, as to the half price wine night, and it just made for a very, uneasy, feeling while at your restaurant.
This was a date night, for myself and my girlfriend, and this was a planned visit for made especially to try your Oysters ( My girlfriends favorite) ..... As well as the wine ! In conjunction with the Brian Adams show that evening
I did not want to express these feelings while out on a date, it would have made for an even more uncomfortable feeling on a date night.
We came from Barrie, which was quite a trek due to the weather that evening.
I hope that whoever is reading this, can identify, with what I am actually trying to express ?
If a more detailed explanation is needed about our 1st visit to TWH?
I would be more then willing to explain my feelings about this evening.
Amazing service and delicious food. Can't go wrong with TWH Social!!
They did not have the beer that I ordered, They did not have the meal that I tried to order, Service was terrible, waiter did not even introduce himself, got a drink at the bar before our reservation and felt like we were not welcome.
poor service for over priced meal
The food was delicious just like our last visit. Although the service itself was good, the server and host could have been friendlier-a little cold and unwelcoming. It was New Year's Eve so at least throw a few balloons out! No mention or evidence of it being a special occasion which made the ambiance seem meh.
Menu was misleading and overpriced. Multiple errors were made with the bill. Music was also too loud for the size of the venue.
Nice variety of beverages, apps and mains well presented with good service.
It was great. $1 oysters night was fantastic. Live music was enjoyable and added to the evening Desserts were delicious.
A little quiet as we arrived between lunch and dinner hours, but they were accomodating. Food and service were fine. Beautiful interior design.
We came here for my birthday. I’ve come here before for special dinners and have always enjoyed it.
A couple things to note: I loved the chicken supreme with the mushrooms. Very delicious. My husband had the burger - he didn’t love it. Nothing to rave about. The Kimchi on the side wasn’t really kimchi and had to flavor.
The oysters were amazing. Loves this and will be coming back for Buck a shuck night.
I got a dessert however I didn’t get it for free even though it was my birthday. This restaurant should offer something like that for celebrations. Our server was not good. Barely filled up our waters and didn’t stop at our table very often. We ended up going to another table to grab drink menus. This was disappointing because it wasn’t busy in the restaurant at all.
Live music was good.
The bar is beautiful.
We came for the steak and they were out of it. Only told us after opening a large bottle of cider so we were unable to leave to find steak somewhere else for a while.
A long wait for simple food - menu descriptions a little misleading. Food ok, just not what was expected.
Great space, they could do so much more with it. Food was disappointing went with 2 other couples and no one enjoyed their meal
Great dinner and evening. Service was amazing.
Only comment is that we feel the lighting needs some work. More accent lighting/lighting directly on bar and tables (even candles on the tables would help), and less overall general lighting. Overall lighting needs to be dimmed/toned down. This would go a long way to enhance the overall ambience and feel.
Great service, our waitstaff Jessica was pleasantly attentive, knowledgeable and interactive with our group. The meals were tasty and even when there was a blip and some produce wasn't available there were alternative suggestions. We weren't rushed which is sometimes an issue when our girls' group get together and want to sit and chat over another cup of coffee. Two thumbs up.
Went to TWH for a second time to celebrate a birthday brunch, and the food (ham) was cold (inside a hot sandwich). The parfait wasn’t served as the menu suggests (cut fruit instead of fruit compote) ... and server didn’t have the time to check in (food took over 30-40 mins after ordering)Overall I wouldn’t recommend for brunch.
A big thank you to our server (I apologize that I dont know his name) for catering to our table. He offered our children a fantastic kids pasta option that was delicious and brought them out quickly so our oldest could get to her performance across the street. He saw my other daughters love of scetching and brought her a cool, colour changing pencil from The Walper Hotel. Definitely service above average, and with kindness and attentiveness not often seen at other establishments.
The noise levels in this restaurant are way to high to even be able to enjoy the meal.
Intimate location with nice ambiance and good food. You can have a conversation while noshing.
Very disappointed in the new menu. Was not great. The old menu/chef was far superior. Will not easily go back. The shrimp linguine was the best I have ever had. Now there is not even a pasta dish
We came for a special occasion and I searched for a restaurant that would be upper scale. Presuming it was upper scale the service didnt exceed what we hoped for knowing we would be spending a pretty penny. I got the steak and got no steak knife. There was a tendon so thick in the steak I had to take a break trying to cut it because I couldn't get through it. It came with fries but no vegetable, which was strange for a $30+ meal.
While everything was okay, I had expected more. More variety with garnishes. More creativity with food combos. More pizzazz.
Enjoyed celebrating my Birthday, and combined with a celebration of our son getting a new job!
Our waitress was very accommodating and described all drinks and food in detail.
She even arranged for us to enjoy a complimentary dessert tray, which was very delicious.
I really do like the ambiance and the food was delicious. Two things I was surprised in was the fact that it was mothers day and they had no special menu for mothers and nothing for kids. Live music was a tad too loud, hard to have a conversation and daughter covered her ears.
Great food. Wonderful service. Family photo taken to commemorate Mother’s Day was a nice touch!
Great dining room for my home away from home at Walper. The food is savory and tasty, uses solid ingredients, and is delivered by a wait staff that make every effort to make guests feel at home and well taken-care of from start to finish. Danielle greeted my during my last visit, after arriving straight from a cross-continental flight, and remembered me as soon as I walked in months later. I couldn’t feel like more of the family! Two hearty thumbs up for the food, and three for the staff, especially Darnell, Danielle, and Taylor. Kudos!
Very enjoyable evening, the waiter was terrific, very knowledgeable and a funny guy with a very pleasant demeanor. We will definitely go again and are already making plans with other friends to go one night soon. Would recommend to others in a minute.
Only concern was noise level. They were very busy so service a little slower than norm. Food was worth the wait.
Love the ambiance. Great place to relax, catch up with people important to your life. Delicious brunch on a cold Saturday morning.
The waitress was happier to speak with friends than serve her customers. We waited over half an hour for dessert. Food was delicious, props to the chef! They should be hiring more servers if the one they do have can’t manage without stopping to speak with everyone she sees.
Just picked this restaurant due to proximity to Centre in the Square. Very happy with everything. Food, service, ambiance. All excellent.
Three of the 9 guests ordered the Buddha bowl. The food came quite cold the first time. After requesting that it be re-made, they did and it was delicious. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to eat with the rest of our friends as we had to wait for our food to be made again. Had it been removed from the bill, my overall rating would’ve been a lot higher. I do think however, that the restaurant has a good atmosphere and is worth trying. 3 stars.
We ordered our meal, took awhile to get the appetizer, when we got our steaks they were cold. The waitress and manager were good about it took them back and made us entire new plates which were hot. We didnt receive any comp drink or discount on the meal.
For as busy (or not as busy) as the restaurant was, the service seemed quite slow. The kitchen forgot items in two of the starters, and mixed up a side order.
However, the food was delicious, and the staff were friendly.
Great atmosphere, we were a group of 6. The food was pretty good. Only complaint for the food is steak is cooked from a frozen state so that affects the cook/preference. As for the alcoholic beverages..my group found the alcohol light handed. Overall a great experience with great service.
Asked for bar seating and we got out in a corner back table not in the bar. Service was bad. Waiter was bad. The people behind us asked for another server after they had him and had been offended by him ( I didn’t hear the whole thing so won’t comment on that). Normally good but we will e a long while returning
Great Ambiance! Excellent Oysters! We enjoyed our meal. A wonderful Venue! It was worth the drive from Guelph!
We were at the TWH for a staff member leaving our department. Excellent food and great environment. They were very accommodating in regards to ensuring the food was prepared in accordance to the food sensitivity our group of people had. Excellent server. A very enjoyable time.
Delicious food, friendly atmosphere.
The food was very good, the problem is the drinking water or the glasses they use. They have a very bad chemical smell. From speaking to other people this does not seem to be a new problem , management just does not want to address it. They also seem short in staff
