Located in the picturesque villiage of Cayuga, about 20 minutes south of Hamilton, Twisted Lemon is often described as a "hidden gem", which attracts a faithful following of 'flavour junkies' and experienced diners from far and wide.
Featuring a lively open-concept kitchen in a tasteful and eclectic ambiance, Executive Chef Dan Megna's dishes are well thought out in their design. Careful consideration is put into each dish, intended to illuminate all of the senses and offer depth and balance in flavour and texture.
Now in its ninth year, Twisted Lemon offers private dining, extensive on and off-site catering (including weddings), special Wednesday night Chef's Blind Tasting Menu (must be booked/confirmed in advance, prior to 2:00pm the day of dining), Wine pairings and much more.
Food is 5 star / service is 4 star / decor & atmosphere is 3 star - not suitable for dates, romance or being cozy at all. They need to fix the flooring, have a decor that matches, noise level from the open kitchen is annoying. The radio station they have playing is too low and top 40, not suitable - play some soft jazz or just instrumental (however, you can't even notice it with the chatting noise level of the kitchen) Kudos to the waitress that noticed that I was FREEZING and relocated us to another warmer area, however closer to the open kitchen, which was bothersome (had to keep saying pardon me to my dinner companion as I could not hear him) They acknowledged that it was my birthday and that I was Celiac, details I noted on our on-line reservation - which was super simple to do! however the little gift they gave me I would not be able eat due to its made with flour, they said that they would find me something else - that never happened. This little gem is located 10min from our house, perfect - but they REALLY have to update the decor to 5 star to match the excellent food!! We had scallops and grilled veggies for aps - perfect! We had TL Stuffed Chicken Leg with risotto and Trout with tea infused Rice both were fantastic! - We had creme brule and lose leaf Chai Tea - Excellent! We will be back with friends that luv to chat!, not as a romantic date - place not suited for that. We really liked that almost everyone was dressed up (exception of a table of 4 in shorts and t-shirts....uuggg) You may think I am being very critical but if you are going to have excellent food at higher prices, make sure that atmosphere and decor live up to that as well. Just my humble opinion
Was a nice luncheon. I like that the menus changes. Always an enjoyable experience. What they do with regular foods is make them outstanding. You have to check them out.
Good service. Good food. Nice setting. Too expensive for me.
Excellent all 'round. Only criticism - music a tad too loud & 70's, 80's rock. Light jazz or classical would have been more appropriate.
Once again the Twisted Lemon did not disappoint. The food was fantastic and the service was excellent. I tell everyone they should go. We have always been impressed. Thanks again.
Tucked away in Cayuga, Ont., the Twisted Lemon is a pleasant surprise. Good food, pleasant service and quiet ambiance. A plus.
We live 5 minutes away so location was a big hit however the food was just ok. Service was pleasant .
No salt on the table or offered.
We would go there again with friends for a nice local dinner place but not because we were craving the food.
my favorite restaraunt by far! Amazing food, clearly created by pasionate chefs, who really care about your dining experience.
would recommend to anyone who appreciates truly good food
Always enjoy meeting friends here for lunch or dinner. Great chef and staff - professional - competent - friendly. Great food. Thank you!
Loved it!! Try it you will too! Had the Boar, was fantastic, tender and tasty.
Fantastic food and service! We will absolutly be back!
Amazing food and great atmosphere. Went there with my wife for our anniversary. Loved the place!
It was a fabulous place to celebrate Mother's Day!! We had been to the restaurant for lunch which brought us back for dinner. Our daughter & son-in-law are foodies so it's always interesting to find new restaurants for them to try when they come to visit from Montreal. Our waitress was very attentive, the ambiance was perfect but more importantly the food was spectacular. We had all decided what we were going have on our next visit. The Twisted is worth visit for any occasion.
Wonderful food and excellent service!
Outstanding in every way! My first long-awaited visit and it totally exceeded my expectations. Not just great food....but a 5 star dining experience from start to finish.
Absolutely amazing food. Went for mothers day and both moms enjoyed the experience. If i could say anything for improvements were the timing of dishes/drinks brought out. One app was late but chef made it complimentary which was unexpected. Very honourable. Drinks were one at a time and actually ran out of one drink requested by 4 of 6 of us. Price wise for drinks on the high side. Service was a touch slow but was a very busy evening. Food was absolutely delicious and cooked perfectly. This is very fave restaurant. Looking forward to going back and trying new menu ideas.
The occasion was Mother's Day. My son, his girlfriend and I were all very pleased with our cocktails (Caesars and craft beer), appetizers and main courses. The service was excellent and I thought everything arrived in a timely fashion. I will definitely go there again, next time will be with my husband.
Loved the Sweet Potato gnocchi, best meal I have had dining out in awhile.
quite busy as always.. service was excellent.. food was slightly better on our last visit.. strong recommendation...they set a high standard so just slightly off this visit..
I brought my best friend, Pops who came all the way from Mississauga to experience the restaurant I keep telling him he must try. Being a devout cook & fine foodie himself, he is hard to impress. He tried the wild boar which he had never had in his lifetime. He was a bit worried until it showed up - he has regretted trying "new" things at other restaurants but not here! I swear to you every single bite, I could hear him going "mmm" over and over and over. Impressed as always chef! Will be back soon.
I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The service was amazing. The atmosphere was also amazing.
first time. heard a few "local" saying it was too expensive... IT IS NOT. if you want cheap food, go elsewhere. this is fresh prepared and priced very fairly. I was expecting high prices based on the local chatter. it is more that McDonalds or the local Pub (awful). the Trout was beautiful, fresh in-house made pasta was fantastic. It was all great. the feature dessert was super decadent. Service was top notch.
We love this place every time we come.
this is our go to place for a quiet night out, No load music or TV distractions. the soup is always a high point for me and the fresh salad homemade dressings and the classic main entree's always are as good weather it was your first time or your tenth they pride themselves in quality food and service. The Sommelier is well versed and if your preference isn't on the list he may find something new in his stash that you may enjoy, pairing food and wine is their forte.
The food was really good even though the menu is short. Too expensive for regular visits but we enjoyed our night.
Consistently excellent over the years with creative meals with a local favor. Personal touch from chief. Menu selections hard to choose then the days specials just blow you away. Cream Brulee the best every. Chocolate fans not forgotten.
This place is exceptional, as are the staff and owners. They put thier heart and soul into your dining experience. Cant say enough about this place!
More and more places are now into the hot "kick" in food and it was so disappointing to have a very old recipe, Italian Wedding Soup, inedible because I was choking on the pepper. I was quickly offered another choice, but the replacement fries were undercooked. Some times this place is terrific, but sometimes I regret paying these prices and coming away with a bad taste in my mouth.
Excellent, fresh and interesting cuisine presented with passion by Chef Dan.
After numerous visits over the years… I have never been disappointed with an evening at the Twisted Lemon !
We went for our anniversary. Greeted warmly and seated promptly. My martini was perfect- "naughty but not quite dirty" and they have a wonderful wine list both by the glass and bottle.
My hubby had the soup and found it very tasty with an interesting spice blend. I had the seared scallops and we both had the lamb (pre ordered). It was beautifully seadonex, perfectly cooked (rare) and melted in your mouth. It was served with an asiago risotto that was creamy and cheesy.
Dessert was the banana bread cheesecake for my husband and I enjoyed the sorbet.
Our favourite spot for a splurge dinner!
First time dining at Twisted Lemon....Excellent food and service. Will definitely be back!
Excellent! We will definitely be back!
The best chef creations yummy soup best salad dressing best home made pasta best dessert ever the banana bread one so yummy
Food was delicious, service was great. Would recommend this restaurant in a heart beat.
another great meal as always with a great wine suggested by patrick!
Hubby & I celebrating his birthday, I'd advised beforehand, yet wasn't acknowledged by server, disappointing. When booking, opted for semi-private area; mistake, it's a small room beside the door w/ a table for four and 2 for 2; like being crammed into a closet w/ 6 other people w/ no ambiance whatsoever, would have preferred the main dining area, but alas, live and learn. TL Cesar was okay. Hubby had craft Steam Whistle, too sweet for his tastes. Started w/ seared scallops (qty 3, increased to 4 which was no problem for extra charge) & bruschetta. Both appetizers very fresh & prepared very well. Scallops w/ blueberry whisky sauce are incredible. Std bruschetta & mushroom/mozzarella version exceptional. The panko parmesan crusted tomatoes that sat below the scallops were tasteless (lacked seasoning) & actually took away from the enjoyment of the delicious scallops rather than enhancing them. Hubby had New York Strip & I had tenderloin; both steaks seasoned well & cooked to perfection. Excellent cuts of meat, melt-in-your-mouth, delicious. The scallion-bacon & potato croquette was tasteless (again, lacked seasoning & again, took away from, rather than enhancing the enjoyment of my meal). Side vegies cooked & seasoned well. Jus served on the plate was excellent; bold, strong flavour, loved it. Wine pairings were spot on, enhanced & ensured the full appreciation of our meals. Ordered platter of 3 desserts; nothing blew us away, but all were tasty. Our server was friendly and accommodating yet slow to clear & timing was off. The wait between courses was prolonged, not sure if this was the server or the kitchen. Total bill + tip $300, not sure if we will return? The food that was good was really, really good, but, sides & accompaniments lacking. We don't mind spending the money but, for that $ we want to enjoy the entire meal, everything should blow us away, not just parts of it. Absolutely nothing served should take away from that enjoyment!
Was a wonderful experience. The place was clean, very welcoming and very knowledgeable of their food, cocktails ect. The only down fall was pricing. I know you pay for what you get. And by no means could I complain about the food. But some items in the menu were too pricey for the portion. It’s great for a date night when you want to splurge a little. Overall was a great time and I would definitely return!
Took my wife there for her birthday. The meal and service were A1. We both started with their TL spicy Cesar very tasty, we had the pan seared scallops for an app. Excellent and very well presented. My wife had the strip loin and I had the wild boar, both cooked to perfection and presentation was spot on. Of coarse we had to try the creme brûlée wow great way to finish a great meal.
Thank you TL
We took my Mum for her 75th. There were 6 of us & everyone raved about their meals. The home made ice cream is to die for.
The hostess, waitress and the wine were fantastic. The food was awful. Caesar salad was bland, the bread with the bruschetta was rock hard. My friend paid $27 for a tasteless, very small chicken leg, risotto and broccoli. Definitely not worth the $27.00. I had the lasagna that tasted like cinnamon. Neither of us finished our meals. Would not recommend. $140.00 for 2 salads, bruschetta, 2 glasses of wine and 2 tiny entres. Will not be back!
