   It was a great experience...we were only two of five diners...for the six o'clock seating. The welcome was warm from the minute we stepped in...our server and owner/chef, Luis, took great care of us...explaining dishes and kibitzing...perhaps had there been more people we wouldn't have had quite the attention we had. My only reservation about the evening was the volume of the music. Otherwise, each dish delighted and surprised...

   Cannot say enough good things about this spot. Stopped by last minute with my fiance last Friday. They already had a full room booked for private party dinner and yet Luis (spelling is probably wrong) was so welcoming, he even le us sit at the chefs table. While I hesitate to write this review, because the place is small and I fear I'll soon have a very difficult time getting into this place, I have to do it because the food was beyond fantastic, innovative, and made with such love - yet the only thing that topped that was the hospitality and warmth of everyone who worked there. Oh, did I mention its BYOB?? Beyond fantastic. Thank you again to the entire staff at U Omakase for giving us a night to remember for a while to come!

    What a great surprise! We were celebrating two birthdays and what a wonderful place and meal to do it. U Omakase is hidden in Greenpoint Avenue with just a small sign announcing 14 seats and 14 plates. Each plate — ranging from soup to raw fish to wavy beef to duck. . . . Truffle in many places. We brought our own bottle of sake and we’re surprised by gifts of sake and Japanese liquor. The service — what can I say. We were served with love! Definitely up for a return trip.

    It is a one-of-kind experience. Intimately collective. Some of the dishes stood out to the extent of making you feel touched. 感動しました. I also like its casual and light atmosphere compared to other omakase. Kudos to all the staff and will definitely come back.

    Such an amazing night!! Luis and his team were so welcoming, it didn’t feel like a restaurant but more like we were seated at a friend’s dinner table. Great food, even greater staff.     If I can give zero stars I would. One of the worst omakase and overall dining experiences. First off, the wait staff was abysmal, they had no idea what was being served to the customers. Every time they put a plate down, I had to constantly ask what was being served. They were not attentive at all and I felt as if I was spending more time trying to get their attention more than anything else. To top it off, I had a live bug on one of my dishes and when I told the wait staff they just took my plate, said “thank you” and replaced it without any further comments. Second was the actual meal, the fish felt like it had been sitting out for a while and almost tasted spoiled. Anything smoked was overdone and tasted burnt. Anything raw lacked the high grade sushi quality expected. Even the cooked dishes had an odd taste to them. It was so terrible that I had to walk out of the dinner with 4 courses still left. I will never come back here again nor would I recommend this place to anyone who remotely wants to have an edible meal.

    This is my second time here in one month. Really elevated fusion Omakase (Japanese, French, Latin American twist) done in a very elegant way. I’m typically a purist when it comes to sushi, but U Omakase does it in a balanced way. Really love the king salmon sushi, hiramasa with mushrooms and light truffle sauce, king crab with roe in a French cream sauce, masu with cherry wood smoke, among others. Vibe is aesthetically pleasing, the service and team are friendly (they give you a free sake pouring!) without the unpretentiousness and fuss at other omakase places.

    We thought we would never see chef Yasu again ever since he closed down his Forest Hills location. By a stroke of luck, we came upon his restaurant on open table and booked the next available seating we could find. The food is everything we remember and more. A mixture of your traditional Japanese nigiri pieces and dishes that are more modern. We are definitely coming back again and telling all our friends who loved his restaurant in Forest hills where to find him. Thank for for an amazing meal!
