Happy Hour at Uchi is interstellar. While the HH menu may offer slightly smaller portions, the food is outstanding and is the same as those items featured on regular menu. Hamachi hand roll. Walu Walu, a grilled escolar in yuzu and tamari. Intense hotate on warm rice and nori. 8 pieces of nigiri directly from Toyosu for $36. Depending upon how you order, you can keep the tab reasonable without touching the main menu. I’ve been going here since Tyson opened it and it’s consistently excellent.

I’ve been living in Austin for 30 years, and have always had Uchi on a pedestal as THE place to go. It was my goal to be able to afford to eat there someday. Many years later, I was able to take my wife for our anniversary. I put in info in the reservation for the event and allergies - server had clearly not seen or been provided these. We got seated in such a manner we were only a foot or so from the people at the tables next to us. Horribly awkward experience with them not wanting to honor gift cards they had traded with my place of employment (which were how I could afford the meal) and I ended up needing to negotiate with a manager after the meal, after paying NEARLY $500 on food and drinks for two. Food was fantastic, but experience was notably bad. Lesson learned - don’t put businesses on a pedestal.

We asked our server Mallory to choose for us and they did such an amazing job. I am gluten free and they easily accommodated that and every dish they brought out when they described it they confirmed it was gluten free. We had such a good time and tried things we wouldn’t normally. Would definitely recommend having your server take you on a food adventure!

Incredible! Mind blowing! The waitstaff is so knowledgeable and give wonderful recommendations. I love bringing friends and family here because it’s always a crowd pleaser! Best restaurant in Austin! Some dishes that are a must are the Walu Walu, Kinoko Nabe (mushroom fried rice), and Hama Chili. I usually order the market fish selections for nigiri pieces and added Sake Toro (salmon belly), Unagi (eel) this time. Everything was fantastic! The Honey Toast for desert is a must have even for those who aren’t fans of honey. Uchi is a flavorful experience!

I’ve been coming here since opening day. I have to say it was my worst experience. Service lacked attentiveness. Would be talking and he would walk away. Food wasn’t paced Correctly. We would Get a bunch of things at the same time. Didn’t get some of the things we ordered. It felt like you were training new staff and nothing was smooth. Food wasn’t as good as it typically is…

Uchi is top quality and very delicious. The sake social happy hour helps not make this a completely bank breaking experience. Just wish there would be more items on the nigiri specials, and rolls like there used to be. Overall though it is very delicious and I would still recommend it.

We were there to celebrate a birthday. First time visit for some. Could not get a single recommendations from our server, even asking three times. They were very busy but definitely not the experience we have had at Uchi or Uchiko previously. The table next to us told the same server they were celebrating a birthday, and the server ignored them. So I didn’t even bother mentioning the birthday at our table so that our guests would not be disappointed. For food, you must try the A5 hot rock. It melts in your mouth.

Uchi is soo good! I really enjoy their modern take on classics, here’s what we ordered: sake nigiri, madai nigiri, lobster maki, shima aji crudo, walu, maguro & goat chesse, honey toast for dessert. The only thing I wouldn’t order again is the maguro & goat cheese, everything else was absolutely delicious.

Most incredible meal I have had in Austin. From customer service to the flavor complex of each course. This being our first Uchi experience, we walked in with no idea what to expect and our server wowed us! We asked for a chef’s tasting within a price range and every course was unique and along the way they asked what we liked to customize courses based on our preferences. We sat a few minutes late and they were apologetic and provided complimentary courses along the way. Overall it was an incredible experience and we will be back!

We’re new to city and this was our first time going to Uchi after hearing so much about it from our friends. Our waitress was amazing and her vibe alone was 5 stars. She was great. We were celebrating our anniversary and since it was our first time we decided to do the 10 course chefs special. We had no idea what we were going to have and that alone was exciting. Then the 1st course comes out and we were blown away instantly. The entire experience was something i hadn’t had maybe since the last time i was in Paris. This place is definitely something special and I cannot wait to go back! I didn’t want to make this post long and post every picture and write every detail for a reason. I hope my post encourages you to make a reservation, take whatever time is available, and just go experience it yourself. You won’t regret and you definitely won’t forget about it after you’ve had it.

Omakase was not worth the hefty price - it’s asian fusion Omakase. I got tired of chefs ruining sashimi and sushi with all the other added ingredients masking up the fish taste, especially their use of “lime zest” that they always boast about while describing each dish. I wasn’t a fan of their non sashimi or sushi dishes - they filled us up but did not seem to pair well (one of those was raw egg, rice, and cooked fish thrown in a hot stone pot) Dessert was a cheesecake with a piece of banana on top..

Cons: We ordered a gluten free omakase, staff confirmed it, and first two dishes included gluten even after the servers presented the dishes as gluten free, the manager came out later and let us know we had consumed the very allergen we had believed could be excluded. I get that some will say allergen issues are the consumers products, but we are very careful to only dine at locations where allergen sensitivities are respected and honored and many do say Uchi is among those who are ingredient conscious. Unfortunately that was wanting at our table even after we were assures it would not happen. I’ truly sad for my wife, her throat swells when she eats gluten (not lethally) but enough to affect the rest of the meal. It was her birthday and i hope she still felt special even though the kitchen staff ignored her needs. Pros: I cried when I tried the 72 hour braised rib. The wagyu tar tar was to die for. I — as a person with no allergies — had an amazing experience.
