The ambience and service at Ulú Grill was amazing as usual. The appetizer and dessert was very good. But, we were disappointed with the main entreé of the whole fried fish that we always had looked forward to. We felt that it was way overpriced and the fish itself was lacking any flavor and was slightly overcooked (fish was a bit dry).

If you travel to the Big Island, I highly recommend splurging on dinner at the Ulu Ocean Grill. Food and Service were excellent. Fantastic venue right on the shore!

A beautiful restaurant with fantastic people who are so kind and helpful. Hands down, service at this resort is what they do well! Combine that with a front row seat to the sand, ocean and it’s breezes, where you can still see the turquoise of the water as it hits the shore… magic! Now the food. We are no doubt spoiled with good food where we come from. But this restaurant traded in on the four seasons name without meeting the expectation or even presentation, besides the plateware. Food was good. Big eye’d tuna should be. But not so good to serve tiny portions with lack of any culinary inspiration. Straight forward is a good way to go with this melt in your mouth fish. At $32 a 6 piece roll, it shouldn’t look like something the shape and portion size you’d get off of a sushi train that you’d get for your kids. For the price, one should expect something a bit more. Maybe fresh grated wasabi instead of the green gobs we get at every other sushi restaurant. IDK… something. The Hamachi Carpaccio was really good and their specialty. Even if the shiso overpowered the fish. It was worth getting 100%. But I’ve had way better for far less. The bao was most substantial and very tasty. The side of bok choy was delicious!! I highly recommend! The sashimi hamachi was straight forward and good. Good fish is good. I have easily spent $200 on 4 small apps and two drinks before but always left feeling like I enjoyed something special. In this case I walked away going, okay. That was okay. Loves the service!!

Been here a couple times. Very beautiful location on the beach. Food is always tasty and well presented. Love the pork bao and the crab noodles. Loved my venison too. Very interesting.

Amazing dinner and excellent service from Mark(?). He helped us take a beautiful photo a little after sunset. The food was delicious and the ambience was perfect for us on our honeymoon. It takes a while to drive through the golf course to the restaurant, but there is plenty of parking once you get to the end.

Our server was the best. Very outgoing person, he is in my top 5 of servers. I believe his name is Bronson. The food is excellent and the sunset was beautiful. I would highly recommend this restaurant and ask for Bronson.

We did the chefs tasting menu and I usually love tasting menus so I was very excited to try this one. Unfortunately the whole experience was disappointing and flavorless. There was minimal seasoning. My guest and I left half our food on our plates. My bill was $550 and I've never left a restaurant feeling less satisfied with what I got.

The setting is very nice. Wonderful beachside dining experience. Our server, Justina, was exceptional. She made our anniversary dining experience very special. She is a master of her craft. Although it seemed the restaurant was understaffed, she made up for the delays with her skill and personality. The truffle cavatelli pasta was excellent! The wine list needs work and more moderate prices.

Everything about this special occasion dinner was perfect. Our server (Mele) is a pro. The other people helping her we're great also. The food was amazing from start to finish. The atmosphere is beyond words. I would highly recommend this place for special occasions. No dissapointments.

Food is incredible, customer service experience was subpar. We made our reservation two weeks ago and couldn’t wait to visit Ulu! This place was highly recommended and we decided to make this our “nicer” dinner while on our honeymoon. We booked this reservation as some as the slot became available, as you can only book two weeks out. We were five minutes late and we called to let the hostess know and she was very kind and said it wasn’t a problem. Kona traffic is a little tricky and we aren’t from here so we underestimated the travel time. Even with being late, the hostess greeted us and immediately took us the the table. The gentleman who filled our waters and brought us bread (which was delicious) was incredibly friendly. The night took a turn when we were introduced to our server. Doug was less than enthusiastic. We started out with drinks and sashimi. The sashimi was INCREDIBLE. HOWEVER, it took an hour for us to get food. After Doug took our order, he didn’t come back. He checked on all the tables around us and didn’t stop at ours. For 45 minutes we just sat and watched other tables get food and enjoy their dinner. Finally Doug came back and said the “sushi was running behind” and he would “get us edamame”. 20 minutes later we still had nothing on our table. Finally the sashimi and edamame arrived together. Again, the food was INCREDIBLE. This low reviews isn’t due to the food. We put “special occasion” on our reservation and this was anything but that. We wanted to order more food but decided to just get our check because we didn’t want to wait 45 more minutes.

The service was shockingly slow. Once we turned down the dessert soufflé, which they asked about when we ordered drinks, the server wanted nothing to do with our table. Lemonade had a bar charge of $10, which we were not told about. The puli chicken was bland chicken smeared in terrible sauce. The single crab leg appetizer was similarly doused in sauce at a whopping $70. It was an extremely disappointing experience that will not be repeated.
