Nice quiet dinner with my wife
The service was impeccable. The food was good, but didn’t blow me away (a couple dishes we had we’re visually beautiful, but underwhelming in flavour; the other two were definitely better though). Would go again, but am not in a hurry.
The restaurant was all of the above, very enjoyable, food was great, will look forward to visit again soon. Highly recommend. Linda
Something has changed here - haven’t been in a year and the menu was fairly underwhelming as was the food.
It was an adventure going thru our palates. Memorable and inspired experience. Kudos to the kitchen for the tantalizing journey.
A trendy contemporary room in a beautifully renovated boutique hotel in downtown Victoria excellent service in both the bar and restaurant sides . Streetside cocktail bar has good value handcrafted cocktails and large list of local craft beers. The breakfast and dinner was very good in restaurant during our two night stay in this hotel . Highly recommended for high quality food and bev at fair price. Happy hour 3-5 was busy so get there early and get a window table
The Humboldt squid share plate is the best squid I've ever had. Also very good ling cod. Short ribs (special the second night) were decent but not brilliant. My wife liked the pork ragout(? or other pasta) a lot and also the beet salad. Portions are not large, but that is a positive for many of us. Prices are quite reasonable.
Hotel Rialto cocktail was quite good and the Cosmopolite was pretty good. Staff is friendly, attentive and competent. Did well to get us in on our first night with no reservation and a late arrival.
On the down side, the desserts are just okay. The "deconstructed" tiramisu isn't much like tiramisu and the special for the second night was unhot espresso over very hard gelato. Didn't quite get the point. The rest of the dessert list didn't attract me.
The wine list is uninspired. You might consider taking your own and paying corkage (if that is an option there).
Ambiance is interesting. The crowd is younger than us (but isn't everyone?). A large table came in looking like the Christmas party for an escort service (really). Not entirely unwelcome but noisy. An early 20s couple was providing necking lessons over the shoulder of the other party at our table. They were in a booth, but for me, hard to miss. Generally a lot of noise and movement. None of it was oppressive, but if you're looking for formal dining or a quiet meal after a funeral, that isn't the best place for you.
I chose the hotel because we had a dinner meeting and I have enjoyed the restaurant in the past. I would expect to go there again.
Booked a large group for a weekend visit and had a great time. The food is delicious, the drinks are crafted perfectly, and the service team is lovely.
I was unfortunately unimpressed with both the food and drinks during a recent visit. I had frequented Veneto when I lived in the city about 5 years ago and chose to take a friend there for dinner after I recently moved back to the city. The drinks were alright; and after trying a few from the menu I just asked the bartender to make whatever he wanted. The drink was better than those off the menu, although not top notch.
The food on the other hand was supremely dissapointing. We ordered a few allies and entree to share. For an example; we ordered the Tuna Confit and were delivered a tuna sandwich on white bread without crust. Seriously?
Risotto was so plain.
Service was excellent. Food was so so. Had the food been very good the value would have been acceptable. It’s a nice room although a little barren for my taste. I probably wouldn’t go back but my wife would give it another try.
We arrived early and were seated right away. Food arrived on time. A sommelier served us our wine after a decent recommendation. Great place for a post-theatre (Belfry) dinner during a holiday week.
Came to Veneto as a couples night and enjoyed our dinner (steak and duck). The service was excellent, the place was very clean and classy. There were only two disappointments: 1. the menu online looked amazing and we were so excited to try a few things out but when we arrived, the menu was way smaller, completely different and not nearly as amazing as the one on their website. So we were a bit let down because we were expecting something completely different. 2. The second disappointment was that my partner ordered the "Humboldt Squid" appetizer thinking that it would be similar to the amazing Humboldt Squid that they serve at 10 Acres. Sadly, it was lackluster calamari. If you're going to serve calamari, then call it calamari so that people know what to expect. Besides that, the service was truly great and our dessert was excellent too. We ordered tiramisu and the server did tell us that it was deconstructed tiramisu so that we were not expecting the original dish. It was excellent but it was not written on the menu that it was a deconstructed tiramisu so I'm glad she told us so that we knew what we were eating. Again, they should have more information on the menu so that people don't get disappointed and they really should have an updated menu on their website as the menu online was so much more exciting than the one they had in the restaurant.
Drinks and service were good but found the food offerings expensive, bland, and poorly plated.
The food is not good! Although the server did tell us that they are in the middle of transitioning to a new menu, the temp menu they have is just abysmal which has very limited choice and the portion is so small you will need two in order to be full. Overall it’s not good value which is disappointing since I work nearby, was hoping this can be a regular hangout but have to strike it off the list now.
Amazing food and drinks! The hazelnut cake is to die for.
The food and cocktails were really awesome and the service was great as well. I appreciate that I can tell the bartender what flavors I like and get an amazing handcrafted cocktail.
Very upscale decor and food was tasty. Nice presentation. A place you would go for any special event. Comfortable but classy.
We enjoyed our evening at Venato. The food was delicious, as were the cocktails! I loved the way Veneto was before all the renovations and didn’t expect it to be as good any more... but was pleased that it’s still I place I’ll come back to again!
I would return for the cocktails but not the food. Be sure to ask for the “spin the wheel” cocktail, they will ask you a few questions and then make a cocktail custom to your tastes! I would recommend sitting in the lounge, the dining room is to quiet and stuffy for my tastes.
I’ve been here several times, and this unfortunately might be the last. The food is still pretty good, but the portion sizes have shrunk though the prices remain high. I used to really like the tapas menu, but they have done away with most of them. The chicken burgers were tasty, but very basic, and again, expensive. The seared scallops and pork bellies were again good, but VERY small (two scallops and two belly’s total) for at $19, and just not worth it. These guys need to start doing something special in their kitchen again, or align their prices with other similar-styled cuisine.
Great place, good food ! Nice recent remodel. Great place for a date!
Showed up hungry, left hungry and 90 dollars poorer.
.A peice of meat and a few oversize tater tot’s don’t cut it.Should have went to Burger King down the road and had a filling meal for less than 20 bucks.
Excellent food and service. I would recommend a door between kitchen and dining room though.
Great service, food and price.
Great food and excellent service. The added convenience of being in the Hotel Rialto lobby is a definitely plus!
Thank you for your great service and food. Had a lovely drinks and dinner with my special friends. We'll be back for sure!
Am and my family went there for lunch and we ordered the Gnocchi for my little daughter but the dish was a bit spicy and the waitress didn't mention it. But the worst thing was the waitress collecting the dishes which we finished, she spilled the dirty water on my husband suit on the chair and she had no sorry to us that my husband so upset. I will not recommend to any of my friends because of the waitress bad attitude.
The mussels were the best I've eaten in years. I wanted to drink the broth!! The gnocchi was delicious. Wine selection by the glass outstanding. I've been here twice the past 2 weeks and recommended it to another couple who ate there last week and loved the halibut and lobster ravioli and pork belly. Our server was so helpful and lovely. She was patient and knowledgeable about the wines by the glass.
Great happy hour food menu. Would like to see some alternate wines/bubbles on Happy Hour bar menu. Overall quite good.
We took my son out for his 24th birthday. The device was excellent, the food ( halibut on lobster ravioli and the salad with pork belly) were both really good. 3 people at our table had the short rib and it was liked by all. The cocktails were tasty and the wine was great. We will be back.
Well cooked steak and good choice of sauces and sides. The server did forget one of our sides but it was no big deal as the portions are generous. Would like more ambience... the room is very plain at the moment but I think they are still updating the space. Wine list is too small but has interesting selection at least.
Amazing, service was great and the food was awesome!
Unreal! I’d recommend Veneto to everyone. Outstanding food, drinks and service.
Really unimpressed with the reno. Veneto used to be a great restaurant, with excellent service and good food in a beautiful, big, exciting, happening room. They closed the place for several months and reopened as a steak restaurant and bar. Okay, that's fine but they reno'd the room so that now you have all the dining service in one big space and the bar is separate. They have sucked the atmosphere out of the dining room. The service was lacking, we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our drinks order. Lots of wait staff walking back and forth but they seemed inexperienced and a bit off their game. The food was okay, but way over sauced and sitting in way to much oil. The bread came with a lobster oil, ugh. No thanks. For a special occasion we will be going somewhere else.
The food was exellent and very exellent and tasty. The waitress was also very helpful in explaining our food choice.
Unreal what they done to the place. Thank you for a great evening.
Outdoor patio under the stars amazing evening
The drinks here are exceptional, a perfect composition of flavour and style. I've had their steak-knife salad which was delicious but last night I branched out and tried the 'Danzo Burger', it sounded great but it tasted over-cooked if possible and under seasoned. The fries that accompanied it were also lacking in flavour and salt, unfortunately our server had come around to ask how things were before I could taste anything. The Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta that came after was perfect however, as it was a wonderful balance of sweet and tart with homemade biscotti. Great dessert and drinks, maybe will pass on an entree again.
Great cocktails and fantastic food. Super fast and attentive service.
