   Two of the four in our group ordered soup. The soup was good but wasn't warm enough, and then it took too long to deliver the main courses (which was awkward because the others in the party had to wait for 2 of us to eat our soup, then wait again). The room wasn't full, so the poor timing was disappointing. My Salad Nicoise was generous and beautiful. I heard it was a new addition to the menu. I would recommend Via Sophia for their happy hour. They have beautiful pizzas that are worth sharing!!

   Little reappointed that host declined my request for a table in the shade. The tables in the shade remained large empty during my meal. Would have been an easy request to accommodate. I enjoyed my meal. The staff could have been more attentive.

   This was the worst food I have ever been served in DC in the 36 years I have lived here. Every single dish for my party of 6 was literally inedible. From foul-tasting sauces on pastas to stale-tasting lasagne bits and croquets to a calamari dish that almost tasted poisonous. To make matters worse, the prices were exorbitant, ie. $28 for pappardelle pasta, $26 for fettucine, etc. My family and I are stilling talking about how awful the food was and the service slow, although the server was pleasant. You should remove this restaurant from your offers or it will ruin your reputation for reliable selections.

    Everything was just ok. It's an average place with a good value, but I have no reason to return. Food was fine but not exceptional. Great location. Host situation was discombobulated. Server was excellent.

    Mothers Day Brunch The food was acceptable but the service was inattentive. I ordered bottomless mimosas and the first one was water downed and had to ask for 3 more before I gave up. The other server at the table helped us quite a bit. The last straw was when the manager told our server to go take care of other newly seated guests right after my server took my check so we waited for awhile. Then the server brought two glasses of mimosas at the end but we just left them. I will not be coming back to Via Sophia.

    The menu is very well curated - not a long laundry list of “typical” Italian dishes, but a truly thoughtful one. It is obvious a true culinary artist crafted this menu. The Via Sophia menu contains superlative combinations of food, such as the prosciutto salad with strawberries. We enjoyed every morsel. This is highly recommended for the food but also the inviting atmosphere, not too loud, intimate and cozy. Perfect for date night or a gathering of friends. Adjacent to the restaurant is the lovely Hamilton Hotel, and parking is easy despite its downtown DC location. And the service at Via Sophia is gracious, well-paced, and just right. It’s everything you seek in a waitstaff. Don’t hesitate to go - go to Via Sophia as soon as you can! It will not disappoint!

    It was a perfect relaxed atmosphere to enjoy dinner with our daughter and her boyfriend while visiting DC. We were on a business trip and extended our stay for the weekend. Our dinner was on a Friday night so the place was busy in a nice way.

    First, the food tastes were excellent. The wine suggestion was very good. Service was average. Noise was high compounded by poor acoustics. Hard to have a conversation when seated in bar vicinity.

    Our waiter took a long time to serve us, and once he did, the first thing he said was that they’re understaffed. The carbonara pizza has so much egg on it which was unexpected. It’s more of a breakfast pizza. As a young couple, it felt like the staff was not interested in creating a welcoming and positive dining experience

    Great business location and good food. Nice prix fix lunch menu but service was slow and mostly absent. We asked for water - no refill for 15 min. Asked for the bill - 20 min later. No apology and the restaurant was less than half-full. Would not schedule an important meeting here.

    Food and drinks were top-notch! Unique menu items and nice wine list. The ambience was a contemporary vibe and conducive to conversation. Unfortunately paying the bill left us with a poor final impression. The waiter didn’t ask about splitting the check, and when we’re asked him to divide it, it was like he had never split a check before. Not only did he not recall what each of us had (there were only 3 of us), he asked us to write on the receipt what each of us had. We did so, also indicating which credit card went with which items. He came back with only 2 tickets with most of the bill on one card because two of us ordered the same wine, and two of us ordered the same entree; those were all on one ticket. We explained again how we wanted the check split, and he was not particularly pleasant, didn’t seem to understand in spite of the fact that we’d written out exactly how to split it, and seemed very put out that we were asking him to allow each of us to pay for our own meal. We finally gave up trying to reason with him, told him how to split the large ticket into two (neither of which had tax since all the tax was put on the other ticket). Then we figured out on our own, based on the tax being all on one ticket, how much the other two of us would leave for a tip. And, yes, his tip suffered for our troubles. What was a great meal…food, drinks, ambience…unfortunately left us with a bad taste in our mouths due to the hassle with the bill.

    This was our second time giving this restaurant a try because our first experience was sub par. I can’t say it got better this time around. The food was very good and timely. The service and noise however, was disappointing. The restaurant had so many tables shoved into a small area you couldn’t hear anyone talk at our own table. The waiter was not attentive throughout our meal. Our table was littered with empty glasses and plates for an extended period of time and we had to ask multiple times for them to be cleared. We ordered a second bottle of wine and our waiter asked one of the managers to bring it over to us but instead he set it down on the counter behind us and attended to a larger party ordering wine one table over. Our bottle sat for over 20 minutes before we had to get up and ask for someone to bring it over. Overall, not a great experience and not eager to return.

    Went for Easter Brunch. Was a prefix menu and took forever to get our food. Soup and Salads. And the soup came out cold. Took even longer for second course to arrive. Food was just okay. Music was very loud. Had to yell to hear each other. Would not recommend.

    Good place for pizza and pasta. Pleasant vibe and friendly service. Went early on a Sunday night and was fine at that time for kids. Happy we picked it, in walking distance from a number of the downtown hotels.

    We went for dinner on a Tuesday evening with reservations at 7:30pm, and were seated right when we wrrived. Drink orders and appetizers were quick and tasty, especially the calamari. However the entrees, while they looked great from the description, were not so great. Our chicken marsala was raw in the middle and had to be returned. But instead of re-making it they just threw the chicken back in and it came out over-cooked and mangled. Our guest did not even touch it since she lost her appetite from biting into squishy raw chicken. I have the salmon, which was very underwhelming, and the clams lacked any sort of flavor. The mushrooms were the only tasty part. Our other two guests also said their meals were so-so but nothing great. It's unfortunate because the menu looked so great but food did not live up to descriptions. The waiter was very overwhelmed with too many tables and wasn't able to check in with us about the raw Marsala. Also, there is only one bathroom, for single use - the bathroom is HUGE but centrally located smack in the middle of the restaurant with the bussing station & people have to wait in line in their way because there is only one bathroom for one person at a time. The staff was very friendly and apologetic for the issues, but it was still disappointing. Would not go back, unless sitting at the bar for a drink and maybe an appetizer.
