Wienstein & Gavino's
With three levels, it offers everything from a unique open kitchen with a large outdoor terrace to a fabulous bar.
Wienstein & Gavino's satisfies all tastes, serving pizza from a spectacular oven, homemade fresh pasta and other Italian favourites while maintaining a rustic Mediterranean atmosphere.
Good seatting service, food and ambiance. Very bad service at table. Our server took a very long time getting menus then proceeded to hover over our table. He cleared our dishes the moment they were empty and several times tried to clear partially full drinks in a bid to have us buy more. When we made it clear we didnt want more alcoholic drinks we were presented with our bills (no coffee or dessert offered). Horrible, agressive, service which marred our evening and the experience overall. Will think twice before booking another large event here
I had pasta and I got sick the next morning. It was really horrible, and I am sure it was the pasta.
It was very upsetting and I had to take off work! Although, I like the place, the food was upsetting.
Everything was great! Loved the good and service. Wanted to mention though that this is the second time that a hostess on the second landing (we ate on the 3rd landing), doesn’t wear appropriate attire. Is this her choice or the restaurant that forces her to wear these inappropriate tops? Her top is a negligee, something I’d wear as lingerie. My young kids don’t need to see that when seated or given menus, as she leans over.
New year eve this year was really great .. big thanks for this amazing night
Went there on NYE, the service was THREE hours long, the food took way too long to come, I understand that it gets busy during those times but they could be more organized... they were more eager to cater for rich-looking people than ordinary diners, would not recommend
Overall nice ambiance, beside that there was not much of a view and the tables are a tad short for anyone above 6’. My date didn’t care too much for the seafood pasta and my lamb rack lacked sides (considering the price). Amazing selection on liquor though. Waiter wasn’t that enthusiastic compared to others that I noticed (I mean who wants to work on NYE?). Still an overall great experience, relative to the majority of restaurants in MTL
Excellent food and service. Highly recommend for a night out
Really disappointing. We have gone to this restaurant for 20 years and will not return. Pizza was just ok and they didn’t bring one of our meals until we were ready to leave and only offered $4 off so I had to speak with manager. Waitress did not handle situation well and was not attentive and did not offer anything as one of our guest waited 1/2 hr for her meal. Sorry, you have been our family go to restaurant in mo freak for years.
Steak was impressive while lasagna was just so-so. Too much noises.
Family Get together. Good times.
It was a wonderful meal, with impeccable and attentive service—precisely why we return on every visit to Montreal!
We liked the place so much for dinner that on our second night in Montreal we went back and it was even better.
Great kids menu as well!!
Our family of four adults enjoyed our traditional Christmas Eve Italian dinner here following Mass. it was wonderful in every way. We ordered pizza and pastas and two of us had gluten free. Everything was delicious.
Edit: Please note Roger, the general manager has kindly reached out to apologize.
We are a family of 4 that have a tradition of going to Weinstein and Gavino’s every December 24th, then go hand out money to the homeless. We look forward to this night so much. However you can rest assured we will continue our tradition in a different restaurant. I reserved with OpenTable with a note “please seat us next to a window”.
When I realized the reservation time was too early, I called in to change it from 6:00pm to 6:30pm. The girl who answered said “yes, I see your reservation. No trouble”. I then saw on the OpenTable app that the change had taken place.
When we got there, the maître d’ was so rude and clearly could not have cared less about our business. He had this pen he was chewing on constantly, said my reservation didn’t exist (I had to show him my OpenTable confirmation, as well as the time stamp of my phone call to prove it!!!)
In regards to being seated by the window, he said: “pffft. That ain’t happening”. I was jaw-dropped. He finally gave us a table and spoke to us like it was such a huge favour.
Our waiter kept us waiting for so long between courses and for the cheque. We literally felt like an after-thought and like our business wasn’t good enough.
The food was good, I can’t complain on that front. I am so disappointed in our Christmas Eve dinner.
When we first arrived they seated us right behind a noisy busy service area. When we asked about moving, a very snarky young lady server told us immediately that there was nothing else. My daughter went downstairs to ask the host and he was no friendlier or helpful. But then all of a sudden our server said she found another table, so it all worked out. It would have been nice, though, if they could have been a bit nicer in the beginning, at least on Christmas Eve. First impressions always set the tone.
Terrible food - couldn’t cook Benedict eggs properly (hard in middle) and then forgot spinach in it.
Replaced but without the English muffin. So ridiculous.
Hamburgers were super expensive and very small patties - terrible.
I wouldn’t recommend this place st all.
Surprisingly good food. Very good wine selection. good atmosphere. Very noisy.
Waiters were very friendly and accommodating particularly since one of our guests had mobility restrictions.
Great pizza and pasta 😘
Food was excellent and atmosphere was great!
The service and the food were great! I’ll definitely be eating there again.
It’s just okay. I’d skip it.
Wonderful dinner with friends.
The food was very good noise level a little too high
Great atmosphere, good and tasty food and friendly service, a definite must go!
Extremely loud. We were initially seated at a table that no-one should ever be offered - right next to a large sink full of ice from which the servers scooped ice for their water jugs. The food was mediocre at best except for the perfectly cooked vegetables. The panna cotta was the worst I've ever had -- a gelatinous mass without the promised pumpkin flavour. When the waiter asked how it was, I told him. He replied, defensively "it's home made". No apology, no offer to take it off the bill. In a city with so much good food, it's beyond me how this place survives.
Great environment but the food was just okay and the service was a bit slow
Consistently great vibe and great food - never disappoints
Service was very attentive and much better than you’d expect at a lively mass seating restaurant. It was excellent actually. Food reflects the made for the masses with little taste. Food was lukewarm when it arrived. Shrimp were big but doused in commercial bbq sauce, rice pilaf was bland and cold. Presentation was nice. Pizza was cold. House salad could have been a winner had it not been covered in commercial dressing.
First time to Montreal and this was a fun stop. Everything was great!
Great food, drinks and ambience! However the service was lack lustre.
It was sooo loud and the food tasted like it was right out of the freezer. I was incredibly upset after leaving (and spending $130).
Amazing! Definitely will go again! Their pasta is worth the drive
Terrible service. Food undercooked. Tasteless. Thumbs down.
La nourriture était excellente sauf que le service n’était pas impeccable on se sentait bousculé par les serveurs. Même que mon frère a renversé du vin lorsqu’il en servait à sa copine quand le serveur apportait les plats.
We enjoyed everything except where we were seated. We had indicated we were there for a date so they seated us next to a family and next to the service area?? Didn’t make sense to me. There were a lot of good dining choices do we made the best of it.
With a limited menu offered on Sundays and bland food, the restaurant did not meet our expectations. Would not return. Service was fine, but took some time, even though the restaurant was more than half empty.
The food was really good but the music really too loud...
A next old time feel, feels like an old pub on the first floor, with seating also on a second and third floor, lots of old wood, exposed brick, just neat. Service was attentive and food was great, prices reasonable.
Great food and great ambiance. The music is a little too loud, so ask for tables that are upstairs behind the emergency staircase.
