Yasu is Canada's first Omakase sushi bar. We celebrates the ocean’s best catches and the craft of sushi in its award-winning Toronto eatery; dishes created by Executive Chef and Owner Yasu Ouchi from Osaka, Japan. There is only one menu at Yasu; Omakase style (chef's choice set course) at $185 per person, a Japanese tradition wherein Chef Yasu creates a new menu daily based on the freshest and seasonal seafood available from around the world. The Omakase course consists of approximately 20 items include appetizers, sushi and dessert. An 18% service fee will be added to each bill. Any further tipping or gratuity is not expected. Everything was fresh, tasted good. But in terms of value, I don't see the hype compared to regular sushi. The mandatory service fee is more than 18% since its applied on the after tax amount.

The quality of the food was good but it was very difficult to understand what we were being served as the chef didn’t speak English fluently. It would have been tremendously helpful if there was a short menu explaining the omakase. The sound level was great but that was due mostly to the fact that the six other patrons were quiet. The fact that an 18% gratuity was automatically added to the receipt was a surprise. I don’t remember this being mentioned on their website and for such an expensive meal, it should be. Beyond that, the 18% tip was added after tax which resulted in me paying approximately $5 more. Another disappointment on what was a fairly good dining experience.

Overall the vibe and the food was well oriented. The service was very good, they accommodated food allergy very well. However, I believe the reviewed are overhyped. I have experience higher quality of omakase (more versatile dishes) with much affordable price. If you like nigiri specifically then Yasu can be an option.

I got a Korean chef who make sushi for me. I feel disappointed because I paid the same price but different services. The main chef made sushi for people beside me.

You don't know sushi until you've had it at this level! If you think raw fish is raw fish you are mistaken. It's no different than getting a steak from a cheap piece of beef vs an expensive piece, there's a big difference! If you've never had the extra fatty part of the blue fin tuna, it's basically the Wagyu beef of the sea. A must try.

I visit this place every two years and it never disappoints! Great for first- time omakase experiences. I recommend going during different seasons as sometimes certain types of seafood seasonal.

Really noisy. I couldn’t even hear what the chef was trying to say. People are talking and laughing really loud. It’s supposed to be a somewhat quiet experience no? Seatings are kinda tight too. Tea refilling was slow. Had to call twice or threes times for a refill. Not exactly sure if the raw food was fresh enough because both of us have had some bathroom experiences the next day. I’d only consider only few of the food as worthy. Some fishes are alright, but some are kinda fishy. The best was lobster but that’s really the only surprising one I can recall right off the bat. Don’t think I would return if this is what it’s like normally.

Food quality was superb and the experience was one I’ll never forget. Definitely overpriced but it’s okay to do once. Sake recommendation was delicious. I think the experience could have been more engaging from the chefs. Everyone gets served approximately the same time but you hear all of the chefs saying the same thing to each individual group. With such a small space, it should just be one chef presenting the food to everyone as a group considering the restaurant fits less than 20 ppl so it’s rather quiet.

I’ve been to yasu many years ago, and this might be my 4th visit. Back then omakase was 85$ per person and quality was very good, probably the best sushi i have tried. But now its gone up 100$ and if the quality was on par or better than it was before i would have no issue but it seems that you guys had less fish menus and using less familiar ingredient such as kombu herring, and there used to be a course with only uni sushi which now you serve a little portion on top of some chopped bluefin. For a first timer the experience might be decent, but as a repeating customer i dont think ill be coming back. I used to recommend Yasu to everyone around me, but i dont think that will be happening anymore.

Yasu was an absolutely incredible experience. The staff was very attentive and explained everything we were getting in great detail. The sake pairings were a must and I’m glad I got them. Highly recommended and definitely worth the money.

We had several other Omakase experiences. Yasu was ok but not anything unique or special and not my top 5! The saki parings was very simple all the sakis taste similar, compare to my other experiences it was not good. It was not very expensive, but compare to what experience you get, it was not worth it. We will not go back , as it was not anything special

Outstanding dîner experience: Tasty and incredibly fresh ingredients with a very nice menu composition with changing flavours and textures throughout the evening. The same sampler menu nicely matched the food. We sat in the counter section with the youngest chef serving. He was very knowledgeable, skilled and friendly.

Overall I had a good time, but it wasn’t an eye-rolling Omakase experience. Plusses include the excellent service. Biggest minus was the value for money. If one is going to pay $700 CAD, it better be top notch.

Went to Yasu for a birthday dinner celebration and it was worth the price ! Was so FULL by the time we were only half way through ! Had to embarrassingly request for less rice, but everything was delicious. Would definitely come back for special occasions.

Yasu is one of our favourite dining experiences in Toronto. From the calm way guests are greeted at the door, to the magical experience of witnessing the sushi chefs prepare their masterpieces, Yasu is a blend of Japanese tradition and culinary wizardry. The meaning of Yasu, google it !!! : is a pleasure to experience. 17 courses none of which aren't complimentary to the experience, leave you with a finished feeling of being supremely spoiled. One piece of advice is that if you don't want to fill up too early, ask and the chef, and he will happily comply, to make the sushi with a smaller amount of rice. The price includes tip and tax. One of a kind outstanding example of sheer pelasure for sure. Enjoy 💐

All dishes are made by 2 chefs. Each chef takes care of around 5-6 guests. I loved the first dish presentation, and they also include some interesting pieces of sushi that are unique to their restaurant
