This restaurant has THE BEST selection of fish in the area & comparable to many of the more famous sushi places on the coasts. They also have a better selection of sake than most. A large selection of fresh fish is flown in twice each week (Monday & Thursday) from 2 large fish markets in Tokyo. As one who eats sushi 1-2 nights each week & have eaten at many places across the country & overseas, I highly recommend Zen Sushi!

Brooke and Kayle are fantastic servers. Friendly and always give great recommendations of fish that are available (esp. the fish that was flown in dirctly from the Tokyo Fish Market. The chefs are great and their presentations look as good as they taste.

We were seated promptly for our 5:30 reservation (we were only the 2nd table, but others arrived over the next hour). Our server was friendly and pretty efficient. One negative: she dropped the top to the mini-bottle of prosecco (which could have been colder - not her fault) onto the floor, then picked it up and put it BACK on the bottle! The food was very tasty, and a good value overall (it was a 4-course prix-fixe for Restaurant Week), but there was too much of it. Not a bad thing, i guess, but when we're talking sushi, you don't really want to have a doggy bag...The ginger salad is fantastic - first time we've found our favorite done the right way (for us) in Lex. We each ordered a different set of entrees (shrimp tempura taco for husband; fish taco for me: a little "fishy" tasting. I had the Amazing tuna nigiri and husband had the other one. The tempura cheesecake dessert was interesting, but we didn't find the taste appealing, and we were too full already. In retrospect, i would've skipped it.

If you love great sushi - Zen is THE place to go in Lexington! They receive a variety of fish twice a week from a large fish market in Tokyo. The selection of sake is also better than most places here.

As always the food was delicious and ingredients used were very fresh. This is one of the few restaurants I don’t feel bad about spending extra money for. The service was great as well and they also gave my brother a free tempura cheesecake for his birthday.

Our rock shrimp tempura was a well cooked and tasty starter. The sushi was very fresh and they had some fish we had never tried,before: Seabream (similar to red snapper), Threeline grunt (very good whitefish), and amberjack ( similar to yellowtail). All the fish was fresh with no fishy smell. The Beaumont roll was excellent but the texture and taste of the cucumber wrapped Naruto roll was not to our liking. Overall, a good experience. We had no trouble getting a reservation. We will certainly go back.

Hands down best sushi I’ve ever had! Was skeptical at first bc it’s in a strip mall but it blew my mind!!! Super fresh. Woke up this morning thinking about it. Sashimi melted in my mouth! I know sushi and I know this sushi is the quality people dream about. I live in Nashville and might come up for a day trip just to go back. Don’t walk but run! Go here now!!!

Our first time here for sushi and our first time for sushi in Lexington Kentucky. Recently moving to the state coming from San Diego. We were nervous about sushi. Back in California, sushi is on every corner and it’s pretty much a staple of everyone’s diet. Well, I must say Zen Sushi blew us away! Fresh! Amazing! Already planning to go back!

What a stellar authentic Japanese restaurant right here in little old Lexington! Artfully prepared and delicious. Fish flown in from the best Tokyo market. Servers were helpful and obviously enjoy their work. Cocktails plentiful - sake menu large.

I invited 4 people to dinner, and one had never had sushi before so she got tempura. I had the mango tango, and she tasted it, and loved it! The ginger dressing on the salad was so nice, and the soup plentiful. All the rolls and raw fish we ordered were so fresh and perfect. Our server was very personable, and brought us dessert at no charge. Tempura cheesecake with chocolate mousse...the perfect ending to a wonderful meal!

We frequent the Lexington area there are times that we change our dining choices just to eat at Zen. Food and fish always fresh and delicious if it’s not fresh then it will not be on their menu. The sushi bar is small and quaint there are daily chef recommendations you definitely can’t go wrong with their choices.

Excellent service - our waitress was wonderful. They went above and beyond accommodating a special request I placed in the reservation. The sushi was excellent, very fresh and the sauces were all up to par. Would definitely eat here again.

We drive out of our way to eat at Zen. It’s a 62 mile 1 way drive for us but it is well worth it! Zen has some of the best fresh sushi around. We typically try the sashimi chef’s choice of the day and a few rolls. The restaurant is smaller so it’s good to use the Open Table app if you are planning on going there anytime in the 5:00 - 7:30pm time range as they will be packed.
