- JJaynevipDetroit / Eastern Michigan •16 reviews5.0Dined 1 day agoTommy Bahama was one of two great dining experiences over two weeks on the Big Island. The food is always consistent at Tommy Bahama, we all loved our meals and beverages. I don't drink alcohol and the bartender made me a non-alcoholic drink that was refreshing. Our server was slammed with a big table wanting to order just a few minutes after we were sat, she did a wonderful job of ensuring we were taken care of and other staff pitched in to make our dinner really nice. We will definitely dine here again next time we’re on the Big Island.More infoTommy Bahama Restaurant & Bar - Mauna Lani, Big IslandPrice: Expensive• Hawaii Regional Cuisine• Kamuela•4.8
- MMaryLas Vegas •2 reviews5.0Dined 1 day agoOverall, we enjoyed our dinner at Canoe House. We started with the Shokupan Pull-Apart Bread. It was unique and tasty, obviously fresh from the oven. The seaweed butter was too "seaweedy" for my taste. The bread alone was great. We also had the Fresh Catch, which was Snapper that day. It was flavorful and not-at-all fishy. It was served with tatsoi kimchi, which we did not like at all -- maybe it's an acquired taste. We also ordered the Warayaki Tuna. When it is served, you get a bit of a show! They "cook" it right in front of you -- it's hay smoked and seared. The pieces were much small than on the website, but still filling. I can't decide if I prefer my tuna sashimi completely raw or fully cooked -- this was something in-between. I would not order it again however. Dessert was okay (I can't remember what it was called). But, honestly, it had too many tastes competing -- coffee, sesame crumble, cookie, banana and cream. What do they say about creating a dish then remove one ingredient to make it perfect? Service. It was impeccable. The hostesses were friendly and engaging. We had Ian as our waiter and he was a marvel. He never hovered; he explained the menu well, offered opinion when asked, and was overall attentive. HE gets FIVE STARS!More infoCanoeHousePrice: Very Expensive• Creative Japanese• Kamuela•4.7

Discover Big Island
Hawaii Island, also known as the Big Island, features not only some of the most beautiful beaches in the state but world-class cuisine as well. No visit to Hawaii can be complete without sampling the local specialties. Enjoy a Hawaiian poke bowl as an appetizer. The ahi poke will be made with fresh, chunked tuna marinated in soy sauce and seasoned with green onions, sea salt and other ingredients. For dinner, enjoy the ginger steamed clams served with Hawaiian chilies, sake and crispy long rice. For lighter fare, consider sampling the mahi mahi fish tacos. The grilled mahi mahi is packed with cabbage, cheese, tartar sauce and papaya salsa on a freshly-baked corn tortilla. Wash it down with a banana mango smoothie and enjoy a long walk on the Big Island’s black sands.
