The Cortez is a fresh seafood and small plates experience with a freshly kept selection of tropical cocktails that draw on our food memories, travels through the years, and Mexican-American heritage. James Beard Nominated Chef Oscar Diaz's menu is a reflection of his weekly walks through the farmer's market and the bounties brought in by our local fishermen. Over time, Amalia has passed all of her secrets and knowledge about food along to her children and grandchildren. One grandchild in particular, Filippo Fanfani, gained a passion for the art of cooking through her guidance. As a child, he spent all his days at his grandmother’s house preparing meals for his family. The two have a strong bond, that began with their conjoining love of creating meals that are enjoyable for everyone.

As the state capital, Raleigh is a hub for much more than government and politics. The city has been growing for years, and with that growth comes an ever-expanding array of top-notch restaurants. Although it's common to see classic and contemporary American places as well as French, Italian, steakhouse and grill restaurants, just about every other cuisine is also easy to find. Some key areas for restaurants are downtown and north Raleigh. You will find restaurants interspersed throughout town too. Some are housed in historic buildings on charming old streets. Because Raleigh is home to North Carolina State University and several other colleges, there are numerous dining spots that cater to college students on a budget.
