Short distance from all three sport arenas.
We are walking distance from the new QLine on Woodward Ave.
Our waitress sold us on the ‘Let the chef pick.’ We we’re told we were going to get more food (>$120) so it was worth it to save the money. The food was excellent. However all of the items were off the menu and totaled $105. We felt misled by our waitress and did not get anything that could not be ordered from the menu. We would recommend the food, but don’t let the chef cook. Based on our experience, it’s not a good value.
Food excellent, cocktails yummy, service was great, so glad we went for our anniversary!
New creative menu which was accompanied by a price increase. Wine by the glass is pretty expensive compared to similar places but food and service was great. As a vegetarian I would like more choices available
A delicious sharing of small plates which were not small!
Super accommodating for my gluten allergy. Everything was delicious! Will be back
I was in town visiting from California. Saw reviews and menu on OT and had to try it ... so glad we did! Everything about Republic - Detroit is fantastic... food, presentation, staff, craft cocktails not to mention the venue. Love seeing old Detroit buildings being renovated and utilized. My husband and I eat out a lot and have dined all over the country. I have to say this was one of the best dining experiences I've had in recent memory. Chef is very creative with the menu and every item was delicious - roasted carrots, endive salad with grapefruit, clams and bacon (OMG) and chipotle baby back ribs. Each dish was explained by the wait staff when brought to the table--staff was excellent! Wish I lived in Detroit - I'd make regular visits to Republic.
We were very impressed by our first visit to Republic! The food was unique and delicious, the drinks were expertly made, and the service was friendly and informative. We'll definitely be going back.
Lively environment and great food!
Food was fantastic, great variety -excellent presentation and preparation.
Pricey but the items I ordered were really good. Loved the roasted carrots and the pork belly. The lavender cocktail was perfect. Not too sweet or floral - just right. Pace is leisurely so don’t go if you are in a rush. But to enjoy the company and good food with no time commitment, it’s perfect. Parking isn’t great but there are parking lots a few blocks away. Around five blocks from the Fox Theatre so walkable. A little loud but you get that with the high exposed ceiling. I’ll definitely be back.
Republic was good ... not outstanding, but good. We had an issue with one of our dishes and the restaurant handled it really well so I commend them for that. The noise level was too loud for our taste - the music was up so high that everybody in the restaurant had to talk very loudly over it, which created a really noisy environment. They were very busy but, even with that, the service was slow; our server was very friendly and knowledgeable but slower than I would expect, as was the bar staff when it came to preparing drinks. Most of the dishes we had were tasty and well presented and the cocktails (when they came) were delicious. Overall, we will probably go back but likely not on a Saturday night when it is so busy.
Loved everything about Republic. We did the Chef’s Choice and it was absolutely amazing. The drinks were amazing as well. One of the people in our party is gluten and dairy free; they catered to her with the Chef’s Choice. I highly recommend trying Republic.
We were seated at 8:44 and sat at our table drinking water until 9:17 before I finally asked our waitress if we might be able to place an order for drinks. She told me yes but please wait a moment. I understand restaurants get busy, but we dined far past their busy hours and the place wasn’t nearly full. They’re a pricey joint but having “bread and butter” as an appetizer for 10 bucks is also fairly ridiculous. Had been a raving fan based on my experience the last two times I went; however, I am now unlikely to return.
The food was incredible! The smoked beats were my absolute favorite. The flavor profiles of everything we ordered was off the charts. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone coming to town. Noise was a little loud and hard to converse with the rest of our table but nothing unmanageable.
Enjoyed a few happy hour drinks at the bar before being seated. Decided to try out the tasting menu and was glad we did! The food was delicious! They were able to accommodate my need for gluten free and plate after plate did not disappoint. The drinks were also fabulous... and dessert. Oh my. I’ll be dreaming of the brown butter ice cream forever.
Don’t miss the homemade ice cream, the best part of the meal!
We enjoyed it very much. The beets were amazing. Flavors were great. Steak very ordinary. Chocolate desert also unremarkable. Scallops had great flavor but very expensive for 3 small scallops.
Republic is a Detroit gem It was a busy Saturday night with music festivals in the city. The food quality was high the ambience was engaging. The wait staff was very nice but a little bit naïve with some confusion as the people bringing the food and taking the orders are not always the same people. we had One of our starter plates delivered twice and then waited for bread for over 20 minutes
This is my fourth time dining at Republic and on three out of the four occasions it has been nearly perfect.
It's great. Food is delicious and unique. Service was fantastic. Had a lovely anniversary dinner.
Still one of our favorite restaurants. We enjoy the ever changing menu with delicious options.
This was our second visit. We were with friends from Florida. They were very impressed with the food selection, food presentation, cleanliness of the entire establishment and the service.
Good food and service.
We did the chef’s meal and it was great. Tremendous flavor and texture on all dishes. The servers were well educated on the dishes and had a nice cadence on serving the dishes.
We ordered a few small plates that our waiter recommended. One of which was a salad. I cut into the lettuce and there was dirt all over the leaves. Really gross. Multiple pieces of our salad were covered in dirt and grit. Pretty surprising coming from a restaurant where the “chef” provides diners with instructions on how to eat the food...
The manager apologized and took the salad and one other small plate off our bill to remedy the situation.
Inventive cuisine, with an arrogant chef who doesn’t clean their produce.
Share 3 small plates, allof which were good. The stand out though strange as it may
seem was the Grits and Sausage, delectable. The grits were almost like a fine risotto,
and the flavor was superb. Duck Mousse was also good and worth it.
Food was excellent. The $60 Chef Choice is the way to go. Are waitress Alexa was fantastic.
Great Old fashions!
This was our first time at Republic and we went for the chef's tasting menu. It was fantastic! The value for the food offerings were the best that we have seen anywhere and the balance between dishes was great. If I had one compliant about the food it was that the fried items were under salted and could have used more counter balance like citrus. The drinks were very good! We mostly had cocktails and would recommend them all especially the ninety nines. We liked our server but she was slow, which was noticeable because the restaurant was not that busy. Overall the experience was lovely.
I absolutely loved the decor and the ambiance in this restaurant, it is very beautiful and nicely laid out. The staff were great as well. I was a bit disappointed with the food, though, I had high hopes that were not fulfilled. We ordered 4-5 dishes and most were just ok and one was not nice at all. If I lived here, I would try again because I really loved the restaurant and its layout, maybe we were unlucky with the choises.
The cocktails were wonderful, the roasted carrots divine. Asparagus was fine, the salmon was good. It was pricey for my wallet, but it was a special occasion. Great service and ambiance.
Go for the Chef’s Choice. They bring small shareable plates of the best food you can imagine one after the other. So yummy!
4th time at Republic. The food and service never disappoint but the timing of the entrees was a bit disjointed on this occasion. Server mentioned that something big was going on "upstairs" . The result was that one of our entrees came quite a bit later than everything else.
Angela took care of us and her friendly, warm personality made us feel right at home. She explained everything very well and helped us with our selections. All the food had a nice presentation but most importantly, tasted very good. The vibe in the restaurant was very cool & classy. A must for everyone!!
The hostess and waitstaff were top drawer. Our waiter was so attentive we asked if he wanted to join us for dinner. He almost read our mind. His ability to anticipate was out of the ordinary.
Our party selected the “Chef’s Tasting” or at least that’s what we called it. Each course was at the appropriate temperature and was accompanied with an easy to understand explanation. We’ll be back!
Too bad parking is such a challenge.
After several good experiences at Republic my wife and I took 3 other couples there and this trip was very disappointing.
The mushroom tempura was totally bland and the texture was (strange?)--no one liked it.
I know it's acceptable now (and helpful for the kitchen) to bring the "shared plates" out when done but some in our party made it clear that they were ordering a "shared plate" for their personal entrée but that was ignored and plates were put in the middle of the table causing some confusion and there was still a large disparity in when each dish was brought out--2 or 3 people eating at a time and the rest not.
The worst part of the night was that I ordered the ribs and after waiting a long time, given the staggering of the serving of the dishes, I asked and was told that they had forgotten to put in the order. Our waitress was very nice and appropriately apologized indicating she would still bring it out and not charge me and brought an extra glass of wine gratis. I asked for it to be brought in a take out box since everyone was long done and it was but, it contained only 7 bones. The menu price was $40 which is overpriced even for a full rack so I'm not sure if the portion was reduced because the ribs were now gratis or it is just a very, very overpriced item.
This was a hit! We are foodies who wanted to entertain foodie friends from out of town and had a blast. The service was great! The food was fantastic, so much so that I took a menu so i could remember the combinations. The okonomiyaki was worth the visit alone. Highly recommend taking friends and sharing! Enjoy!
Food was very good and the service was excellent. My only issue is a $10 charge for some rolls. There were 4 people at our table and the server had to ask the kitchen for another roll because the standard order is for 3. $10 for 3 rolls is excess.
We had a great experience. We chose the chef cooking for you and we loved everything that came to the table. We had plenty of food and were full walking out the door. Service was excellent. We will go back soon
Wonderful urban chic restaurant with a very interesting menu. Unique preparation unlike the usual offerings. Been there before, will be there again!
Food was delicious, and quite inventive. We shared 6 plates, 2 small 2 appetizer size and 2 main, and it was a good amount for 3 without breaking the bank. Oh, and one dessert between the 3 of us—curry-flavored donut holes, seriously—they were delicious.
