Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

    We had a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner! We loved having so many options from the traditional turkey to more seafood options. A thanksgiving “must do” if you like to dine out instead of cook at home!

    This review is for the Thanksgiving day fixed price menu. The traditional turkey plate was good - very moist turkey. Turtle soup was also very good. Crab cakes were ok we prefer type with mostly lump crabmeat and creamy these were like at the old West End seafood places with shredded crab and a lot of bread. Overall was a very enjoyable meal. Would go back to try their regular menu.

    The restaurant is beautiful. The staff is great they are pleasant nice and always upbeat. The food is phenomenal and the prices are very reasonable. Definitely a great date night thanks to them.

    Overall - Good and we'll go back. Downside was trying to order wine by the glass : Sauvignon Blanc out, Cabernet Sauvignon out, and Merlot out, but they still had full bottles hanging on the wall?

    Glad the restaurant is back open after all the challenges they faced. The alligator stuffed mushrooms were great. The onion rings and fried shrimp were good, but not up to past standards. Previously the batter was perfect and the fried shrimp were the best in the entire New Orleans area. But this visit, the batter was just a bit too dark for both the onion rings and the shrimp. We missed the fried calamari, but that may be just as well if they'd been fried in the same batter. Next time we'll avoid the fried menu items.
