Bayou des Familles, a lazy waterway home to many alligators, turtles, egrets and other wildlife, takes center stage as our restaurant’s design provides its diners with a natural picture show. It’s in this unique setting where friends and family unite to experience southern Louisiana charm and culture in its finest form. It’s an experience not to be soon forgotten.

The 15-mile drive from downtown New Orleans will take you through the Jean Lafitte National Park. You’ll arrive at Restaurant des Familles and park under moss-filled century-old oak trees. The restaurant’s Acadian-style architecture provides a glimpse of bayou life that once was.

Our menu features authentic representations of Cajun and Creole favorites such as Crawfish Etouffée, Seafood & Okra Gumbo, Seafood Platters and Turtle Soup. Our signature dish, Alligator Stuffed Mushrooms with Alligator Sauce Piquant, will tempt even the most timid diner.

    Overall - Good and we'll go back. Downside was trying to order wine by the glass : Sauvignon Blanc out, Cabernet Sauvignon out, and Merlot out, but they still had full bottles hanging on the wall?

    Glad the restaurant is back open after all the challenges they faced. The alligator stuffed mushrooms were great. The onion rings and fried shrimp were good, but not up to past standards. Previously the batter was perfect and the fried shrimp were the best in the entire New Orleans area. But this visit, the batter was just a bit too dark for both the onion rings and the shrimp. We missed the fried calamari, but that may be just as well if they'd been fried in the same batter. Next time we'll avoid the fried menu items.

    Visit the restaurant for the first time . The entrance to the restaurant is unique , absolutely love the bayou decor. Greeter was a gentleman and respectful as well as our waitress . Ordered an appetizer Boudin Balls, sent it back , it wasn’t for my taste but replaced it with Crabmeat Gratin , loved it . Entrees could’ve had a little more seasoning. My husband and I had the Crab cake Lafitte and Blacked Catfish w/ Jambalaya. But! What have us deciding to go back is the ambiance , the awesome view of the live alligators and I want to try the BBQ Shrimp entree . I hope this review helps and you visit soon

    Restaurant des Familles is our go to place whenever we have guests in town or want to celebrate a special occasion. The food is top notch every time and the service is outstanding. Add to that, the giant picture window overlooking the swamp, alligators, and other wildlife, gorgeous cypress wood and swamp themed decor, and excellent drinks and you truly get an unbeatable authentic Cajun experience. 10 out of 10!

    Restaurant des Familles is a great lil resty on a bayou that gives you an authentic Louisiana experience, especially when the Alligators are hanging out! The service was really good and the food was tasty. My only gripe was the amount of seafood on the $46 Seafood platter, I thought it was pretty skimpy but it did have a good soft shell crab. My husband said the fried shrimp were the best he ever had. We both highly recommend this restaurant!

    We had an amazing meal with a great view of the bayou. The serving sizes were generous portions. I am glad that we shared the seafood platter. We even brought food home with us. It was a special meal for celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary.

    We were not affected by this, but customers kept opening up door to go outside, and it was affecting customers at the table right there. The door was not closing, which was letting in the very hot air, and the customer kept having to get up and close the door.

    Simply the BEST! Everything they fix is delicious but do NOT forget the pecan cobbler for dessert! YIKES! You won't be sorry! The staff is INCREDIBLE, as are the owners. We love our time spent at this fABULOUS restaurant!!

    This was our party's second visit in 1 week. We returned for the soft shell crab dish. We were not impressed with the food overall. The soft shell crab was delicious but the gumbo was only liquid, a steak was over cooked and was sent back, the shrimp dish had only 4 shrimp and one was mutalatd. We probably will not be returning until the kitchen gets more consistant with the dishes. The staff is very nice.

    Please keep in mind that we were there on Sunday Father’s Day for lunch. The place was packed. Unfortunately, the kitchen was slooooooow. It was explained that the fry station was terribly behind. We enjoyed our appetizers and salads and each others great company. The alligators were quite entertaining as well. All in all it was a 3.5 hour lunch but everyone was so nice and the waitress was very attentive. After all, it’s not like she could make the kitchen go faster. Will I go back? Of course. Will I avoid High Holidays? Of course.

    It’s been several years since we’ve eaten here. While the food was ok, it was not as good as I remembered from previous visits. Our order was smothered catfish and crab cakes with pasta. We’ve had better at a less expensive chain style restaurant. For the price (more than $50 each) we felt very rushed. Our server wanted our order less than 1 minute after we sat down, we only got 1 bite of soup before our entree was delivered, and we were not asked if we wanted coffee or dessert. We went for a slow, special fine dining experience and left in less than 40 minutes because we felt so rushed.
