This is a great spot to meet up with friends and enjoy a delicious meal. It’s old world charm with modern touches makes it very inviting and comfortable. The food never disappoints and the staff are very friendly.
It’s a go to spot for us whenever we’re in town.
Had an amazing experience. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff were great. From the minute we walked in, the service and the attention to detail was awesome. As for the food, it is probably the best steak I've had. The ambiance was nice and quiet but elegant. The staff were very attentive but but not invasive at all.
Thank you for a wonderful service. Next time we are in Ottawa, we'll make sure to stop by. Thank you.
Great place to celebrate a special occasion . Fine dining but not pretentious. Excellent service. Very nice menu with lots of choices. Everything was delicious.
Dined here while visiting town. Service was excellent,
Food was delicious, and the was a nice wine selection. The chef accommodates dietary issues, right down to making a special sauce for the sauce. The restaurant was quiet and the stone interior is beautiful.
The service and the food were excellent, the creme brulee is delicious
I had pan-seared foie gras. I was the only customer in the restaurant. It arrived as two small bites and was cold. It sat on a round of toast, which had absorbed no pan juices at all. I wonder when it was seared!
Next came halibut. It was overcooked and dry. I checked other reviews later and discovered the same complaint a number of times.
After two small courses I paid and left.
Great place. The food is really good and the service was fantastic.
Excellent service, fantastic food, price according to the level of the restaurant.
Only a negative point, the temperature was pretty cold inside the restaurant, even a couple behind us asked to change their table for one closer to the chimney. It should not happen in a restaurant with this category.
Cocktails and food were amazing. I loved, loved, loved the cod. The meat was soft and not overdone yet it had a delightfully crispy skin on top. So amazing. Great atmosphere, too. Love the stone walls. Makes it very special looking.
This place is definitely high on my list. Amazing service, food, ambiance, 10/10. Looking forward to coming back!
Great dinner with colleagues while in Ottawa on business. Food was great as always - in our group people had beef, duck and fish and everyone was really pleased with their choices. The restaurant is quiet enough to have a conversation together as a group but just easy-going enough to feel like you can use regular voices and laugh out loud without it causing heads to turn. Definitely an excellent choice for a nice meal, and just a short walk from the Westin, Chateau Laurier, Andaz and other area hotels.
The service was A+ from the time we walked into the restaurant to the time we left! The food was delicious. We were celebrating a milestone anniversary and the restaurant made it evening extra special!!
Water girl is the best. She gave some great off menu tips!!
It was a nice quiet restaurant. Portion sizes were quite small for the amount of money that was paid
Reasonably tasty and as long as you are not expecting to be full after your meal, and that it is pricey, it was an alright experience.
Nice for a once-in-a-while fancy meal.
Had the 12 course sharing menu. It was amazing. Lots of food so you won’t leave hungry. Leave lots of time to enjoy the meal, it took us 2.5 hours but we enjoyed the time there. Can’t recommend it enough.
Excellent flood, beautiful restaurant and great service
Service was outstanding. Red carpet experience
Food was exceptional
Will go back
Service was super. The food was very well presented and tasted delicious. The decor is a mixture of old and modern. We would return but only for very special occasions. The food is priced reasonably for the quality but the wines are expensive.
Enjoyed a lovely dinner with a very nice Merlot pair to our entree. Service was very attentive. Highly recommend.
Superbe service personnalisé. Nourriture à la perfection.
Couldn't have asked for a more perfect evening. Can't wait to go back.
Nice restaurant, very clean, food was cooked perfectly. Expect to pay premium prices, but well worth it. Huge wine selection.
Restaurant is beautiful. Host was very nice as we checked in for our reservation. We were seated right away at a lovely table and received water immediately.
However, after that everything went wrong. Clearly there was not enough staff working to handle the number of guests at the restaurant. Service was incredibly slow. One large table seemed to get all the attention of everyone working in the restaurant that night. Our entrees were lukewarm at best and we waited an awfully long time for them. Also took quite awhile to get our bill when we wanted to leave.
I don’t think we will try this restaurant again. We were both disappointed with our dinner.
Second time at this restaurant, the first time was great, this time was not quite as good, table wasn’t available and made reservations 4 days in advance, my steak was cooked perfectly, my wife’s was undercooked and very fatty. 4 of us this time 2 bottles of wine everyone had steaks cocktails, and desert, the bill was $845 with 20% tip. I never look at prices when fine dining, but I have have high expectations, was a little disappointed , but would go back
Fantastic food. Worth every penny. Oysters, seafood, lamb and wine. Wow!
Beautiful setting inside . The staff were all very polite and made you feel very special. The service was excellent and the food was very tasty and unique.
Lovely place with great service and delicious food. It's the value that is the killer point here. Most of the menu is way overpriced and they play a bit too much the "tiny but good-looking portion" game.
Maybe for a very special occasion, but there are better choices in the area.
The Eighteen has been our favorite restaurant in Ottawa for many years. It continues to be our favorite. Thank for the nice food and the outstanding service!
Overall experience was very disappointing. Impressive building promised a classy high quality evening but failed to live up to expectation. Once seated had to ask to move because of noisy group. First courses of oysters and prawns was good, then problems started. Cod dish was undercooked, and steak was a pitiful serving cooked medium/well done when asked for medium/rare. Desert of angel food cake was as bad a serving as I had seen, deconstructed in a bad way, few bits of cake, few chunks of meringue and a bit of fruit. Dry as a bone, awful. Real shame as staff were good and dealt with problems by taking items off of bill. I could not recommend in the slightest, most disappointing meal of our holiday.
Our experience was amazing. My partner and I came to celebrate our anniversary and chose the Chef's menu, 5 courses. Our waiter, Jason, was great. He gave helpful descriptions of the plates and answers our questions fully. We had enough time between courses and got a few bonuses (like an amuse-bouche and a palette cleaner before the main course). The flavours were divine - I loved everything (apart from the dessert which was mediocre). Definitely pricey but you're paying for an experience!
Food was awesome, service friendly and efficient. Best part was that you didn’t feel rushed while eating our meal. Our first time there, get a feeling in won’t be our last.
Lovely restaurant, great atmosphere. Or server Kate was fabulous, very attentive and careful with my food intolerances. I had the beet salad to start, excellent combo of flavours. Duck for my main which was cooked exactly as requested and super delicious. My mother had the Caesar salad to start and black cod for her main. Both delicious. Great experience overall!
We had a fantastic experience, from the minute we were greeted upon arrival, to the bartender who was very knowledgeable and friendly, to the fantastic waiter and wait-staff that looked after us all evening. Our dinner was just excellent - cooked to perfection and so beautifully presented. Nothing could have made our evening better - excellence is hard to beat!
Excellent and knowledgeable staff with a kitchen that is intent on top quality produce.Menu is well thought out. Service is exemplary, one of the go to tables in Ottawa.
Excellent food and outstanding service!
Wonderful tasting menu. Very knowledgeable waitress who was passionate about her job.
Combine amazing food with incredible service and you have 18. Could not have been happier with my first experience at this wonderful restaurant. Cannot wait to return.
My wife and I ate at e18hteen last night based on many enthusiastic referrals. Firstly, let me say that our server was lovely and knowledgeable about both the menu and the wine list.
For starters I had oysters which were excellent while my wife had grilled octopus which was not. The octopus had been grilled much earlier in the day, lunch perhaps, and was limp and tasteless. Then came the mains. The steak ordered medium rare was medium well and the black cod had absolutely no seasoning. I don’t like much salt but this was like eating water with texture. Both were sent back. It was close to half an hour before we saw mains again. Although vehemently denied by the staff I am fairly certain that the steak was previously frozen because once cut into there was a gelatinous quality that couldn’t be from anything else and at $50 this is not acceptable. In the end we paid close to $400 for a meal that would have been better at the Keg for a fraction of the cost. I will not be recommending the e18hteen.
Hello Libby, I'm am terribly sorry about your experience last night. I would however like to clarify some untrue remarks to insure the integrity of our dedicated hard working staff is not diminished by misguided statements. Our octopus is always grilled to order and we do not serve lunch. Our steaks are never frozen. We only use AAA angus reserve beef. Please contact me directly at email@example.com to arrange something in the future , or to discuss your experience further. Thank you DG
Amazing food and service, as always. This restaurant never disappoints.
