Restaurant Le Continental
In the gourmet world of Le Continental, traditional cuisine is classical. Enjoy the perfect service, the great flambéed dishes that pay tribute to the delicious French cuisine. The Continental's wine cellar is most impressive with its board of famous selection of French, Italian and American wines. It offers a choice of more than five thousand bottles, four hundred different varieties from Grands Crus classés to affordable prices.
No visit to Quebec City is complete without a meal here. Classic old school dining, with choice cuts of meat flambeed at your table. Meticulous service without a hint of pretension. I have a propensity for frugality, but this is one place I don’t bat an eye at the cost. It’s always a special night and I recommend it to anyone.
Overall good experience. Would recommend to go once, not necessarily for a return visit
Food : Flambés was intense and I loooved the shrimp and sauce. Big shrimp, beautiful, tasty, really well made. Vegetables and rice were kind of an afterthought, bland, no seasoning, a little undercooked
Tiramisu was so good also. Fluff, light, very good.
Service : Everyone was all smiles and beautifully attired, neat. Attentive. Host was very service-oriented. I liked him.
Negatives : Value for what you get is not really good. I would have expected more at that price. The designs on the plates were worn out, made it look cheaper. Would suggest all-white plating and replacing them. Waiter seems in a hurry to give us the check, didn't even ask if we wanted it. Made me feel unwelcomed
I was told that when visiting Quebec to be sure to visit the Continental for a quintessential French dining experience. The restaurant did not disappoint! Every element of our visit was exemplary. It is a very expensive evening and patrons should be aware of that. However, it was well worth the price. Be sure to order a flambé dish or two and the crepe Suzette for dessert. The creamed spinach was the best ever. Thank you for a special evening.
This is a splurge restaurant, and was certainly the peak of elegance on our most recent vacation in Quebec. The intricately choreographed dance of waitstaff as they not only take orders and bus tables per usual, but also flambé and prepare salads table side, is simultaneously intimidating and awe inspiring. Our entrees of lamb and sweetbreads were delicious. The atmosphere reminds me of dining in a bygone era.
The old world charm was evident in the outstanding service that we received. Our waiter Hugo was personable and professional. We enjoyed watching the table side preparation. The next time we vacation in Quebec City, we will definitely be back.
We had read that Le Continental was a great restaurant, but it exceeded our expectations. The delicious meal and lovely ambiance made for an outstanding dining experience. Sergio prepared an outstanding homemade salad dressing table side for the salad also prepared table side.
Our table was ready when we walked in the door and the staff was attentive without being overbearing. If Quebec City is on your travel list, Le Continental should be on your dining list.
This was quite an experience. Highly highly recommended. They will not disappoint!
We wanted our boys to experience the great food and great experience of seeing our steaks cooked to perfection at our table!
What a way to finish our great family golf vacation! Thank you.
Can't miss every time I come to the city. Perfect night
We were late in making a reservation so the only time slot still open was 5:30 pm. But we could not have been happier with that time because by the time we were finished, the restaurant was packed! The service was beyond outstanding. Our server/chef and all of the assistants were extremely attentive. Watching our server make the Caesar salad and flambéed steaks table-side was impressive to watch. We enjoyed a martini to start and then wine with dinner and our bill was $330 for two. It was absolutely worth it!
Sometimes you may have a great dinner but rarely do you have an opportunity to have a total dining experience. When you walk in Le Continental you are greeted by the maitre d’ who is dressed in a tuxedo. The waiters are dressed in white jackets and bus boys in red jackets. The decor is elegant with wood paneling and white table cloths. Soft appropriate music is played which helps to set the mood of a fine dining experience. Now to the food: we had the Dover sole and scallops. Both were excellent and the sole was de-boned table side over portable cooking apparatus. The service and table side preparations are old school but we found it to be refreshing and reminiscent of an era when great food was only part of having a meal. Service was great, ambiance great if you like the feel of wood and fine furnishings and the food is delicious. All of the table side preparations were outstanding including the best Caesar salad ever and the cherries jubilee.
Our waiter/table chief was fabulous--very friendly, informative and cooked my filet mignon like none other I have ever had before!! As he prepared it at our table, he explained each step. (And now I have to purchase a cooper pot). My husband and I wish to thank him and the staff at The Continental once again for helping to make our 50th anniversary dinner one we won't forget!!
only one chef took care of 4tables including ours. Vegetable was not fresh, demi source was
salty. Not recommended.
Superb food and service, with salad and steak au poivre prepared at our table. Delicious dessert. Elegant setting. Also quiet (though we dined in the late afternoon, when few people were there). In a great location in the old town, with wonderful walks nearby. Will return on our next visit.
Le Continental is a great lunch experience.
Ambiance: it was very quiet restaurant given that we ate in the afternoon, so a plus for those who want some peace and quiet. Also, it is very close to the Chateau Frontenac, so its sitting in a prime location.
Food: we had the filet mignon flambeé: it was fantastic as they cook it right next to you. One of the best filet mignons I have ever had.
Service: the fact that they can cook next to you provides you with a great opportunity to talk with the waiter/chef. Its so good that he recommended two other restaurants that were phenomenal and that we would have never gone to but for the waiter’s recommendation.
Price: pricey, but not out of the ordinary for fine dining in Quebec/Montreal areas.
Excellent dining experience
Visited this restaurante for my milestone birthday while on vacation in Quebec City. It was an excellent experience, both from the perspective on food and service. Food was well prepared and presentation was beautiful. Escargot and carpacio appetizers were very good. It is definitely entertaining to have your waiter flambe your steak table side, so I'd recommend one of the flambe dishes. They have an extensive list of wines by the bottle, which served well our larger party. However, they only have a very limited number of options by the glass. Dessert was also incredible. While not the cheapest meal you will find in town, I think the price matched the quality of the food and service.
Superb food. Service excellent .romantic atmosphere and music. Expensive and worth it
Superb restaurant with great service. Definitely coming back.
Atmosphere, service, food--a wonderful experience, and a true throwback. Best Caesar salad I've had in my life.
Very elegant, service top notch and food was spectacular!
First Class Table-Side Prepared French Cuisine.
Prices Are Very High ($$$$), But Definitively Worth It For The Culinary/Dining Experience. A Must Do If Your Wallet Allows You?!
Great food and attentive waitstaff. Very attractive restaurant and quite cozy.
Distinctive table side service to prepare duck for two. Very tasty.
Our food was incredible. The ambience was elegant and the service very good.
Above first class. It's always a sign of how classy a place is when they're faced with a problem and how they fix it. There was a special problem the night we ate here... and I happened to be it.
We arrived and were greeted by the Maitre who was in a white dinner jacket... and seated at a very nice table. Our water was poured by a designated pourer/assistant and our server of 42 years, Dennis, greeted us. We had been waiting for this special evening ever since we saw an Anthony Bourdain show and booked our trip 8 months ago. I've been dreaming about a table side made Caesar Salad and a table side flaming steak for those 8 months also.
We ordered drinks... my wife a nice glass of SV and I had a Crown Royal on the rocks. Our drinks came and we toasted. I was taking my second sip while checking out the menu, even though I knew exactly what I wanted, and I spilled my drink... making a mess of the table. Within nano-seconds the Maitre, the assistant and Dennis came to my rescue... and quickly moved us to another prime table... and brought me another drink, which I wasn't charged for. Needless to say I was embarrassed, etc and making such a mess at one of the best restaurants in Canada, but the problem I caused was solved in a very first class manner... fitting with the restaurants rep.
In any case, Dennis made our Caesars table side, flamed my steak and filleted my wife's Dover Sole... and we finished off a memorable meat with some espresso and a Taylor Fladgate 20 yr port.
It was a perfect evening even with my mess up. This place is totally first class. BTW, if you get queezy looking at the prices on the menu, you might want to try some place else. BUT... the atmosphere, service and the food are worth every cent.
Great experience overall. Excellent service, great food! Will definitely go back.
Sebastian was very professional and we were very entertained with his presentation. I immediately informed my friend who's visiting Quebec City to book a table with Sebastian.
The dinner here was good. I had veal and it was good. The restaurant is known for flambeing foods at better tableside. It is enjoyable to watch, but the my husband said the shrimp dish he had was outstanding. The service was very good.
Good vegetarian options.
Always great. Forgotten classics with unmatched attention and service. Old school at its best.
The food was excellent and the service was even better. We loved the Irish Coffee!!
We were with another couple who also loved Le Continental.
Albierto was wonderful...very knowlegedable and very personable.
There are very few places where you can get fresh Ceasar salad nor where they flambe entrees and desserts tableside.
We really aprreciated that.
Please don't change.
The service and the good was impeccable
Amazing app of French table side service. So worth stopping.
The restaurant met the expectations we had. We had been to this restaurant some 50 years ago (we are from Quebec City) and wanted to see how it had aged since. An excellent example of a classic French restaurant in Quebec, with the slightly higher prices due to its touristy location and tourist customers. The food has been adjusted for US tastes and dining style, but there still remains enough authenticity that our experience was quite satisfactory. The wait staff is quite knowledgeable and accommodating.
We visited this restaurant two nights in a row. The first time was great, the second even better. This place is phenomenal. Don’t skip the table side flambé experience. We had filet mignon in mustard sauce & flambéed langostines. They were the most delicious, delicate seafood I’ve ever had. For the dessert, we enjoyed pears flambéed table side with Pernot liquor & cream sauce, almost like a butterscotch. They were divine. This place offers a unique dining experience. Absolutely delicious.
Simply, the best dining experience in Quebec. We absolutely loved the old world glamour & feel of the place. From the moment you enter, you are greeted by someone to check your coat. The restaurant is beautiful with white table linens & shaded lamps at each tables. The servers look sharp in their white blazers. The menu is varied & everything we had was fantastic! We had the table side Caesar salad, carrot soup, lobster thermidor & flambeed filet mignon. My husband said it’s one of the best he ever tasted. I’m not a fan of red meat & found it delicious when I tried it. The experience of having someone cook table side is unique. We accompanied our meal with half of bottle of champagne, followed by half a bottle of St. Emilion red wine. Having the option of half bottles on the menu is convenient. Our server Alain was great. We loved our evening & highly recommend this restaurant. We spent approximately $350 US. Totally worth it.
My parents came here years ago. So I decided to give it a try with my family. Caesar salad was amazing. Steak tartare a was perfectly seasoned. My daughters' food was perfectly prepared
