Really tasty meal shared with friends. Able to accommodate a reservation for 8 made mid-day for a Friday night. Lovely communal bench seating. Tasty fusion small plates which are easily shared.
Always a fun place to be! Love the Union!!!
Great food, amazing flavours, fresh ingredients and consistent quality... what’s not to like?
We also like the community tables and friendly ambience. Very welcoming and chilled.
Came here for my 30th birthday dinner. Really cool spot. Good service, great food, bench seating so our group all felt close together. Food is meant for sharing but we were all able to order our own dishes and it was enough food for a single order. Would recommend and would come again!
The Union never disappoints. Interesting combinations, unique flavours, great service.
The share plates were creative and delish as were the cocktails. Curry and Thai noodle were favorites.
Came for brunch for Father's Day! Made a reservation, though place wasn't too busy, seated promptly! Would've loved to try many items on the menu so we will be back! Great fusion of Filipino and Western food. We all had brunch items. Bao Bennies a must-try! Lapu Lapu drink very refreshing! Restaurant, itself, is tasteful in decor and welcoming, trendy!
Amazing food, great music, fun and creative drinks! Will definitely be back time and time again!
Food was great! There was a little mix up with one of my friend’s orders, but not a big deal. Servers were warm and welcoming, and despite the busy dinner crowd, service was well done! Drinks are exotic and amazing as well :)
We used to go here a lot after our soccer games because it was a perfect spot for a larger group. I recently went again, and it seems a few things have done downhill a bit. For example, the food was only "ok", the Banga tasted watered down, the service was super slow and impossible to get another drink, and the tables were set so close together that when I tried to shuffle my way out, I banged my knee so hard on one of the benches. Ouch! I had one of the mains, I forget the name, but it had pork meatballs with noodles in a coconut broth. For the hefty bill at the end of the night, I definitely went home a little hungry. Oh, and my beer was definitely not cold enough. Union...please get your act together - you could be so much better!
Awesome, absolutely love this place!
we had a great meal during Dine Out Vancouver. We enjoyed the preparations.
Loved our server Shivan. She was super friendly and helpful. We would sit in her section again and request it. Ambiance good and music great~ we could actually have a proper conversation. Kimchi fries were tasty but wished they had more meat in it. Chicken wings amazing. Will be back.
Good ambience, food was just passable, either very bland or overly seasoned. They served their hot and sour soup cold and we had to get it reheated. Service was disappointing as well. Dessert was amazing though
Went here for dineout and the menu choices were pretty good. Service was ok but our food came out incredibly SLOW! We waited over 10 mins after they had already cleaned up our appetizers and then waited another 10+ minutes after they cleared our entrees just to get a piece of cake. Also, my husband didn't know that his Viet coffee had alcohol as the menu didn't say it clearly. Mixed feelings about this experience.
Wasn't particularly overly impressed with the dineout menu. Probably would have had a better experience had I ordered from their a la carte menu.
Great spot and very friendly staff. Asked about vegan options via their Facebook page and they responded promptly with an answer.
Yeah overall it was good. I wouldn't say it was exceptional. But I enjoy going to the Union with groups of people, the communal tables are great when you may have a person or two joining. The service was good. Nothing over the top.
The food is really tasty and unique.
Its not to loud in there which is awesome when you are trying to visit.
If you are going there for a birthday, note that they charge an additional cost if you bring in your own dessert. Not unusual, a lot of places do. It was a $3 charge to put the brownie they got me on a plate.
Came here for a birthday dinner. The food and drinks were good and the restaurant is nice but it was too noisy to hear everyone in my group (there were about 10 people). I could hear the people seated right next to me but not a few seats down or even across from me. It would be fine for a smaller group (6 people max) or maybe at lunch when it's quieter. Overall was happy with the experience and the service.
Best brunch (and best Caesar) in Vancouver.
Food is bland and overpriced. Been there twice recently as I wanted to give it a second chance but I won't be going back.
food was definitely creative and flavourful. enjoyed it.
Great weekend brunch menu. Food was very tasty and filling. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Delicious food, great service and a very upbeat, fun vibe. The cocktails are awesome too!!
This was my first time to The Union, I loved it. Cool atmosphere, trendy decor, amazing food, good drinks & our server was friendly & effecient. I will be going back for sure.
Really impressed with how they handled our group of 10! Thankfully not too busy at 10:30am but pretty hoping around noon. Delicious brunch and some of my fave hot sauces in the city!
Was happy with our very helpful and attentive server. The food was delicious all around. The drink concoctions are amazing and the ingredients are very well balanced.
Our main server was amazing but I gave 'service' only a 4 because a friend and I ordered an entree that we told the server we would be sharing. We received the entree at our table by a different server. One of my friends advised me that previously she had shared an entree at this restaurant and asked the server if it could be split onto 2 plates and they took it back no problem in order to do that. Thinking this was a great idea we politely asked this other server if she could do that for us. She was very hesitant and we could tell by the look on her face that she was not too happy with the request. She took the plate back and as she turned away she was shaking her head, which we felt was unprofessional. She did bring the food back in a timely manner split onto 2 plates which was great. Note to self: Next time remember to ask ahead of time
They raised some of their prices, but food was still great!
Had not been back in years, still a great hang out for casual south-east Asian cuisine! Wonderful list of double cocktails and over good value for money!
I went with a group of friends for brunch on a Sunday. The restaurant was neither busy nor noisy when I was there, and there was surprisingly a good amount of street parking in front of the restaurant. I did not expect any of this, as I was told otherwise. The menu was different. Staff seemed friendly, and food was brought in a timely manner. They were also quite accommodating to our bill splitting requests, so that was much appreciated. Now on to the food... There were three dishes that everyone chose - the tiga babi, pho bo, and variations of the bao bun bennies.
The tiga babi, was very strongly seasoned. In fact, it was perhaps slightly too strong overall, and a bit too salty after several bites. I found myself drinking a lot of water. The lemon grass in the sausage was overpowering, and detracted from the enjoyment. The eggs were perfectly cooked. The pulled pork was tender and moist, but salty. I think The Union should consider switching up the use of the beans because it seemed like overkill. The use of the hollandaise sauce is a mix for me because the sauce just compounded the richness. Something to cut through the fatty/rich nature of the dish would have been nice. The portion was fine though.
The pho bo was okay, but not spectacular in any way. The broth had a restrained beef flavour to it, and it did not feel oily (that's a good thing). The rare beef was good, but the portion could have been a little bigger. The use of the rice noodles tasted out of place, and left me wanting a proper bowl of pho. My conclusion is that for those who want to order a bowl of pho, just go to a proper vietnamese restaurant, but it was a nice choice to have on the menu.
My friends who ordered the bao buns did not comment much, but they did not seem particularly happy or unhappy with there dish, so I will it at that.
My verdict -- I would not go back for brunch, but maybe for drinks.
Dinner & drink with 16 people (two friend's birthdays). Seating was awesome (long benches that could fit everyone). Drinks and food was great! Cool vibe. The staff was accommodating and the food was delicious!!
We had a really good time and the service was great. I did however find the food a bit mediocre. I had the Duck Special and was expecting something amazing and it was good, but just not what I had anticipated.
I asked a couple of friends how their food was and had similiar feed back.
I work in the customer service industry and I know that " Off Nights " definitely happen.
I would definitely come back and try it again, the drinks where great and our party of 18 were all very comfortable !
