Have been going there for years and always enjoyable. Unfortunately this time I had a medical incident and blacked out causing a panic among my luncheon companion, staff and other patrons. Staff were wonderful and an ambulance called and I was taken to emergency and in hospital for 2 days. Special kudos to Marina the hostess and Majid our server who were excellent in handling this emergency situation. Marina even called since to inquire as to my well being which is exemplary service. I will return and soon.
We wanted a pleasant lunch with good conversation with old friends. That is what we got... and the service was excellent. We will make this a regular event.
This place is a hidden gem. Quiet, excellent service, wonderful food and in an old library bar that provides an cozy and intimate ambiance. Love love love going to this place.
I would never order hot food as the kitchen is so far away it always arrives lukewarm at best. The cold salads good though.
The staff were patient with our clumsy luggage and unavoidable need to make cell phone calls.
The food and atmosphere were nice, but the service was slow and discourteous. My friend had a dietary request that the server got wrong. What I really didn't like is that they failed to collect the billfold for payment to deliberately 'up' their tip - we finally left because they were so slow collecting payment - and they ended up scoring a very generous/excessive tip. It felt like they did it intentionally. I really did not like that. While it may be a nice spot for a drink after work, I would not go back for a meal. I was less than impressed with the service.
Always a pleasurable visit and have been going there for years. The staff rember me and always make me feel very welcome. My only constructive criticism would be the wooden boards they serve the food on. I do not particularly find them attractive or sanitary. In fact they are messy and I much prefer my food on a plate. That's all.
Excellent; went for my daughter's Call to the Bar. Tables were a bit small for 4 people. Service sometimes a bit rushed.
Always a fun spot to meet up with friends for drinks and a catch up. Convenient to the subway and Union Station if you can navigate all the construction. They still hold he reputation for the best martinis and the best prime rib sandwich.
Love the Library Bar and was there celebrating my birthday. Service was exceptional and really appreciated the complimentary birthday cake
As usual the lunch was superb. I will be back next time I am in Toronto.
Our server was very attentive but one of my friends asked for no bacon with her meal and it arrived with bacon.
They have gluten-free option
Love their teas!
Marina and Nancy always make you feel at home!
Always a great experience. Friendly staff and delicious food: perfect presentation
Annual get together for friends who come from east, north and west of Toronto. Table 12 is our favourite and we always have a lovely meal with great conversation.
I chose The Library Bar for lunch with one of my all-time favourite bosses. In the casual chit chat with the maître d, I mentioned this. After what was a wonderful lunch (well prepared, timely service), they brought us some chocolate covered strawberries and macaroons with ‘best boss’ written in chocolate. So thoughtful and left us not only with a lovely lunch, but a wonderful experience!
We love Melissa Attard
Celebration of a dear friend's 60th and it was perfect. Server was very attentive and ambience was perfect for our get together.
Good lunch menu - burgers, sandwiches, salads and quiche all delicious but pricey for what they are. During lunch it’s busy so it can get a bit loud but you can still hear your dining companions. Easy to find, convienient to union station and the financial district. Staff is great- if you get your leftovers to go they come in a cute fairmont Royal York tote.
Good food and attentive service.
Beautiful venue. Superb service. Good lunch time selection on menu.
Have made it a regular site for a late lunch with a friend who works near when I am in Toronto. Visited on Wednesday afternoon. The service was stellar. I meant to get our server's name but she was so good - attentive but not fawning. She was simply lovely to chat with and added to our enjoyment of our time at the Library. Will look forward to a return visit.
I arrived first, gave them re reservation name (mine) and gave them the name of the person I was meeting. When he arrived, he was told I had not arrived, and waited outside 20 minutes. He texted me, and that is how he found out I was there.
Food was fine as usual.
My dear friend and colleague was here from London UK. The Library Bar never disappoints. Classic, warm, unhurried. Absolutely delicious lunch, careful service, and expert pours from the bar. It remains our go-to. Many Thanks for a great afternoon.
The atmosphere was lovely and the service was pretty good.
The sandwiches were a bit tasteless and the bread was dry.
A little overpriced for what you got.
Despite all of that, we all had a fun "afternoon high tea."
Belated Mother’s Day celebration with my daughter and granddaughter
My friend of 40 year met me for lunch.
We had a wonderful catch up and wondered why we had not done this before!
We will be back!
Overall this was an incredible place to meet my friend whom I had not seen in a very long time... The Library Bar provided privacy, comfort and quiet to be able to have a good conversation..The food was excellent however very difficult to eat the little side salad and would have preferred my quiche on a plate rater than a board. still highly recommend
Treated my mom to Afternoon Tea for Mother’s Day, 2018.
Great quiet space, wonderful food and delicious deserts! Highly recommend the Ontario Ice Wine tea if you like a slightly sweet tea!
The food was great, and the surroundings are beautiful. Just a bit dark even during the day. I was on the far inside of the room and my sister was still difficult to see because she was back lit from the window on the other side of the room. The service was also great. Waiters were always around checking in with us.
The desserts were really great, especially since one of them was the Queen's Biscuit Cake, and another was Elderflower and Citrus, similar to the Royal Wedding Cake.
It's a great plate to go for High Tea for any occasion! Hopefully I can go back soon!
I brought my mom here for high tea the day before Mother’s Day. It included a pot of tea per person and a selection of sandwiches and mini desserts/pastries that were tasty. The mushroom was the only sandwich that we I didn’t care for. It is all very filling. We left with the desserts that we couldn’t finish, and I ordered a few tins of oolong watermelon loose tea as gifts. The tea prices are good if you’re used to purchasing loose leaf from places like Teavana. The breakfast tea was good too. Service was excellent!
We enjoyed high tea for Mothers day - May 12th, 2018. I found the sandwiches were a little lacking in both the filling and the freshness of the bread. The sweets were outstanding, each was better than the next. The tea, I chose Earl Grey, was wonderful. We were sat in a corner that was quieter that the rest of the room but I felt a little claustrophobic and it was quite warm in that corner. The service was spot on with the Manager coming often to see how we were doing, I liked this. Expensive at $ 200.00 including tip for 5 small sandwiches, sweets and tea. The ambience and service are worth it though. I'll cross this off my bucket list and was pleased but not overly impressed with this function.
We have been going to the Library Bar for many years and always a pleasant experience, with good service, great food and drink and a fun ambience. I highly recommend it.
Great atmosphere. Food is overpriced. Very bland. I had the lobster Shephard pie with a not so nice serving of shells. Very surprised about that in an upper scale restaurant. Service was pleasant.
Wasn’t aware children were included when I reserved. It was not identified as a family friendly venu and should have been. There were too few sandwiches for a lunch tea in my opinion: double the number and cut down on the number of sweets. The staff (aside from the check in area) seemed distant and uninterested, a far cry from my first encounter two years ago. My memories were positive and that is why I chose the Royal York to celebrate.
It was lovely and delicious! Just what you want your high tea to be! Really interesting choice of teas.
My problem was largely with the tea. The house uses a single brand that favours flavoured teas, something most adults don't really care for. I do not think my tea was steeped at a high enough temperature, and there was no way to remove the leaves, meaning the second was guaranteed to be bitter.
I don't really see a point to having a menu if you have no choices. Almost 3/4 of the food was dessert. I do not think it would be that difficult to split up the menu into different plates so people could order what they want (more or less), say two plates of sandwiches, one of dessert, et cetera.
It's a beautiful room and the staff was nice, but the food didn't quite match up to the price point.
Staff always very professional and welcoming.
Not sure if there is a heater problem or leaky windows there. This is the 2nd time I’ve been there within a month or two and both times we found the temperature to be cold. The Library Bar should be a warm cozy place for drinks and food...
