Really enjoyed the happy hour deals and unique eating options. Service was excellent- we shall return!
Took my friend and her kids to the Oakwood for dinner on Friday night. Our server Carlene was fantastic, she was funny, knowledgeable and attentive, she also walked us through the menu and made some excellent suggestions. The wine list had some amazing B.C. wines by the glass which were very reasonably priced. The food was delicious and beautifully presented, it came out in a staggered fashion so we could all taste each dish, the kale salad and the poutine were table favourites but the rockfish crudo was my highlight, light cured fish with excellent accompaniments. Would highly recommend this neighbourhood favourite to anyone looking for a great experience.
I frequent The Oakwood quite often and I’ve never been disappointed. Great food and just as equally, great service!
Great food and great wine! Rachel and Rob were wonderful in helping us navigate both the food and the wine menu. The chicken skins and the peanut butter ice cream bars were both delicious.
Loved the potatoe dumplings , which are like really delicious perogies. The burger is amazing and the service was perfect.
I thought there was a very small amount of steak for $30. Roughly four bites. Tasty, but wow, a small portion of steak.
This is a great little spot if you love to do share plates and sample a large variety of tasty bits!
A great place for some great Canadian cuisine. Highly recommended.
The Oakwood is a lovely spot for a late afternoon happy hour drink and snacks at the Bar or for a dinner or brunch on the weekend. Book the table by the fire in the Fall and you will have a beautiful, cosy night with your friends and family. The staff are super friendly especially their cocktail wizard and wine expert (Rob)--head bartender. Solo diners will feel comfortable dining at the bar, and the restaurant can also host big birthday parties at their communal table. Many delicious items on the menu, including the kale salad, the burger, and ice cream popsicles!
Great food ad good service
Believe the wait staff, the servings are tapas size. That said 3 items for 2 people, plus one dessert, was just fine. Yes the poutine is incredible. The mapley bacon on it was a hit. And if you have the partridge, don't offer to share the croquettes. They're delicious. Keep them to yourself!
I requested a table near the fire for my boyfriend's birthday and it was perfect. We had four people and ordered 7 dishes to share, it was plenty of food (maybe alittle too much - they recommend 1.5 dishes per person). Server was knowledgable and attentive, just a delight. The duck and kale salad were standouts.
Went here for Thanksgiving dinner. We were told that the dishes were tapas , but probably not so much unless you’re just a couple. For larger groups (we were 7 people), just order your own food. The food was very tasty, but portions were rather small and so for the price, meh.... $30 for roast duck breast (4 pieces) was not worth it. At another of my fave eating spots $30 gets you a rack of lamb-5 rack. I would recommend as a try the food, but with some reservation or warning.
Found Oakwood as a recommended on trip advisor in the neighbourhood where we were staying.
There was a variety of dishes on offer ranging from inexpensive to moderately expensive, you could choose as many or few you wished, each dish came out separately and sharing is the order of the day, each dish we tried was just amazing we would definitely go back to eat and recommend it to anyone who asked
Fab service and awesome food. The poutine is a winner!
A really lovely evening. Nice cocktails, delicious dishes. We went almost all vegetarian - tons of delicious options. Sat outside and it was really comfy and they will turn on the heaters if you need them.
Excellent food with super friendly staff. Would highly recommend
Great food,cozy ambience
Good cozy atmosphere and great service. The food comes in very small portions and was average. The menu recommends that guests share which may explain the small portions but one of us is a vegetarian so that limited sharing.
We had an excellent meal , well worth the visit and drive from White Rock
I went here for the first time on a date and it was absolutely amazing! I loved the food, drinks and atmosphere of Oakwood Bistro, I would definitely eat here again.
The staff are very friendly and this, combined with the decor, makes the atmosphere great. It was very loud, so probably not the best place to bring grandma, but she really liked her meal.
Well executed variety with unique twists.
My husband and I had a fantastic evening in the oakwood. Great food, drinks and service. Worth the trip from downtown for sure!
We had a great time here for a get-together after a few years!
Dinner at Oakwood is in sharing style, which gives us the opportunity to try out different plates and flavours, my friend who's visiting in town got a taste of Canadian poutine, ling cod with carrots and beets, and beef steak with mushroom paste.
The overall lighting is quite turned down, which is more of romantic ambiance - three of us didn't have a good look at one another until we walked out haha.
Seating is quite nice, and the noise level is still alright - we managed to converse without much trouble hearing each other.
Clean restroom. The real measure for a restaurant's standard.
Our server was wonderful
Food was delicious!
Really wanted to love this place. However, despite the great service the food was lacking. We had five dishes, including two entree called ones and four of them were quite unappealing. Those four dishes were very heavy, and one note. My best advice to the chef is to add acid to the items for more depth or fresh herbs go a long way. Also, I believe that for shared plates, especially plates with sauces or foams, new plates are ideal that way the individual plates are set apart and you can really taste the dish.
Excellent meal once again! Innovative tapas and well paced service.
I just love this restaurant, love the food, great Wine list and good staff. Never been disappointed!!!
Great service, amazing wine recommendation but the food was not the star of the even.
Lovely food, at a decent price . We were with the family and the sharing concept is really nice; you have a really wide range of possibilities.
Delicious food and excellent service at reasonable prices. We had the warm kale salad with brussel sprouts and cauliflower, which was beautifully dressed. We also had the ling cod with an interesting accompaniment of lentils and carrot bisque. The flavours worked wonderfully together. I worked highly recommend the Oalwood.
Nice dinner in the Oakwood Canadian Bistro! All of their food is to share, like some sort of tapas. Three meals and a dessert were enough for two, and everything we tasted was really nice. The service and ambiance were also great. We definitely recommend.
Absolutely amazing food. Great service. The menu is exciting . . . go with a group so you can get a wide sampling.
The waitresses were busy and did not listen to our special requests on two occasions. They need more attention to detail and only have one server per table.
It was a great experience. The food and service were excellent. Tristan looked after our every need and our server, Chantelle was charming and most attentive. The friendliness of the place was palpable and every dish we had was delicious. We shall definitely be returning.
Food was great! Loved the family dining style!
We REALLY miss the lamb shanks, and sincerely hope they return as a staple to the menu. I understand there's a new chef, but this dish will bring us back for years. The beef entree dish was a bit underwhelming. The meat didn't taste deliver the nuanced flavours one can get with beef, and in fact the bok choi was the best part of this dish. Since the beef is served rare, there should be a sharp steak knife brought to the table (not old dull ones). Everything else was ACE, including the ambiance, service, food and wine. LOVE LOVE LOVE the chocolate ganache.
Food was excellent, service was very questionable.
Salads we’re forgetten and steaks took more than an hour and a half to come out- no remuneration took place.
ThAt being said food was very good and am sure that they simply had an off day in terms of service.
