Charming in every way! From the stroll through the park to the festive green decor and the delishous food, River Cafe is a gem in the heart of the city.
The River Cafe is beautiful and iconic but, they put 6 of us at a table for 4, the food was very expensive for what you got ($21.00 for a piece of mushroom tart, no salad on the side) and the service was slow.
I’ve been to River Cafe countless times! It’s on our top five when we choose to plan a brunch or group meal. I typically have great overall experiences, but this time I came with my family to celebrate a birthday and there were 9 of us. We were seated crammed in the back near the washroom so it was extremely distracting each time someone walked past for the washroom and brushed by our jackets on our chairs. The view is also not great in the back area (so isolated from the restaurant and the outside is basically fencing and outdoor storage area). The food also took FOREVER. We waited about an hour for our food after ordering. Not impressed as this was breakfast so eggs and hasbrowns should never have taken that long. We were given 10% off our final bill, gratuity not mandatory, and some pastries (while we waited for the food) which was good. But still didn’t make up for a pretty frustrating experience overall. Our server wasn’t lovely, but we were told by our server and management that our food was “just being plated” at least three times... over the course of 20 minutes which added to the frustration. The food was amazing! I will be back. Hoping for a better experience next time.
Great place, always love it. Wish there was a way to notify restaurant customers that the main bridge to princess island is closed. Also river cafe seating can be cold if you get the outside wall to one of the patio doors vs the windows.
I particularly enjoyed my butternut squash and mushroom tart.
Our table by the cozy fire on a winters day , good food and friendly
Service made for an enjoyable brunch.
Great showcase of ingredients, minimal seasoning because it's simply not required.
We have been coming for years and this meal was very disappointing. The service was not good and the food was average and way overpriced. Had the duck - four little slices for $45 - seriously??!!!
Won’t be back anytime soon.
Excellent time spent, great atmosphere, nice views and of course the food was delicious
porkloin was cold/overcooked, pate had no flavour, was really looking forward to this restaurant for 15+ years- was disappointed with food at this price point, service was good..
Family Christmas dinner
Great all around! Not cheap but great value for what you pay and tons of character!
Very pleased with the meal, the service and the decor.
Tasting menu was excellent - very generous portions presentation great and everything super delicious.
Our favourite Calgary destination.
Every time I go to this place, I make a great memory! Love their food, ambience, service! Such a gem to Calgary!
There are better options for the money in Calgary.
Wow time at Christmas brunch 🎄⛄️
Beautiful restaurant, delicious food, cozy atmosphere and magical location.
Love the restaurant. Service was great as well as the meals.
Was a beautiful winter evening to be dining out. Fresh snow was on the trees and made a lovely setting. Sitting next to the window can be a little cool in the winter. Restaurant does provide blankets if you get a bit cool.
Was able to drive to the restaurant to drop off those that aren't as easily able to walk from where one needs to park.
Favourite restaurant! Beautiful setting and delicious food.
Always perfection. Thank you River Cafe!
I always love to visit River Café and enjoy the cozy ambiance and the park outside. It always makes for a great time. The honey roasted potatoes alone make it worth the trip!
Everything was amazing from the service to the food. I had such a great time there
Tremendous Evening .... great food , a fantastic setting and Jessica was fabulous!
Everything was incredible. Really one of the best restaurants in the city.
You're in the middle of Calgary but you feel like you're in a lodge that's hidden away in the Rocky Mountains. Almost everything is home made - even the bacon is cured in-house. Pleasant, professional staff, fantastic menu that's full of local, organically grown/raised options. Wonderful. Go for a special occasion, or just 'cause you want to feel good about yourself.
Nice atmosphere. Delicious food. Lovely staff. Portion sizes are a bit mean. Menu published online was not available, which was a little dissapointing.
This joint is incredible - we have lived in a Calgary and only found out about this restaurant about 3 years ago and we since have been returning so often we decided to make it out wedding venue. Great staff, outstanding food, perfect atmosphere, and the best location.
We had an exceptional dining experience, totally enjoyable...
One of the best restaurants in the City of Calgary, and definitely in the most unique location. Highly recommend checking this place out.
We had a marvelous time, delicious food and lovely wine. Our servers were outstanding. Just the perfect amount of attention to our needs.
Great Canadian cuisine in a relaxing spot. The River Café always impresses guests from out of town.
Great location. Excellent food and service. Looking forward to going back.
Of particular note was the barbajuan . Which was played such that 3/4 of the plate was empty. The deep fried pasta was incredibly dry. Though you could hardly notice because there was only 3 of them about the size of a loonie making the average price of each of them $12.
The River Café is a fun place to visit, in the middle of an island park. It used to be a fishing house and the decorations are full of Canadian traditions.
River Café also changes the menu often so you should come sometimes to try new cuisine!
Great service and the food was/is always amazing! A great place to have brunch on a Sunday morning.
The staff approached our table and asked the tab be cleared and leave, to ensure the table was available for the next reservation arriving. The restaurant was extremely busy, however it was disappointing we were asked to leave shorty after finishing our meal.
The price you pay for the food isn't worth it, presentation is poor and they need to bring the sweet levels down, not enjoyable.
Always love the river cafe! Fantastic food and wonderful staff.
